Chief Quanah Parker and 250 Comanche braves rode horses in an Independance Day parade on July 4, 1896. The Fort Worth and Denver Railway station in Quanah, Texas, is at the left. Quanah Parker was a war leader of the Kwahadi band of the Comanche Nation. He was the son of Kwahadi ComancheJune chief Peta Nocona and 2022 Cynthia Ann Parker, an Anglo-American who had been kidnapped as a child and assimilated into the Nokoni tribe. Parker County is named after Cynthia Ann. Following the apprehension of several Kiowa chiefs in 1871, her son Quanah emerged as a dominant figure in the Red River War, clashing repeatedly with Colonel Ranald S. Mackenzie. Quanah Parker eventually surrendered and peaceably led the Kwahadi to the reservation at Fort Sill, Oklahoma.
