living community with his dog, Tigger. “It doesn’t make a difference because the food here is too good,” he said with a smile. He’s made close friends within the community, too, including some who convinced him to take his meals in the dining hall after Betty died last year from COVID-19. “They were my savior,” he said. When Betty was alive, the two rarely ate in the dining hall since they had a full-size kitchen in their apartment and their car was parked only a few feet from their back door. “It’s just like a real house, but there’s no maintenance or anything,” he said.

He does have a small, fenced yard but it’s well manicured by the staff. Housekeeping is also provided. There’s even an on-site pet spa for Tigger. He says management is very responsive to any issues that may arise. Living at an independent living facility also gives peace of mind to his family. Their oldest son, Steve, is nearby in Keller. He’s a pilot for American Airlines. Greg is a safety director for the Miami Beach school system. Bill has one grandchild, Cara, who recently graduated from nursing school. As he sat at his dining room table, looking through scrapbooks, he said he regrets nothing in his 87 years. “I’ve had a great life,” he said. And, once again, Bill Mohr feels like he’s at the right place at the right time.
