Work Project
O Shop cocktail bar & shop-cum-cafe
Location: Chengdu, Sichuan, China
Completion Year: 2019
As design assistant, completed the projects concept while taking part in the interior furniture and lighting design, also assisting in project administration and site supervision.
The division of three is knitted by a repetitive yet idiosyncratic gesture - the floating elliptical arches. They bring a sense of character to the store without occupying any footprint. Hovering in the air with confidence, these arches are juxtaposed by exposed ceiling and columns.
This sense of order blended with rawness is reversed and carried out on the wall too, where bands are left untouched alongside perfectly painted upper sections. When the night befalls, the space can transition from a sophisticated design store to one of changing moods. Toward the bar, the last arch section is membraned and backlit with colour-changing LED to infuse different flavours into the space. And the hidden cabinets behind the mirror open up, where curiosities arise from the reserved narrow strip of space as bartenders to attend the dark.
O is a space with multiple functional sets. During the day, it is a coffee shop where displays retail furniture, and at night, the bar mode is turned on.
While exploring more spatial possibilities, we tried the combination of spatial vision and materials. In 5 months, I participated in the concept deepening process of this project, and completed the design of custom furniture and lighting. For the customized furniture and lighting fixture, we worked on the flexibility and the cosistence with the atmosphere of brand identity. The pendant lighting is fixed on the homogenous plaster curved ceiling with invisible joints. The movable bar counters are hidden behide the mirror partition, only showed up at nights.

Work Project
We explored ideas surrounding Chongqing's physical and cultural characteristics. Throughout runs a series of chunky grey terrazzo plinths inlaid with white aggregate, all set at slightly different heights. Together they're meant to reflect the sharp rises and falls of Chongqing's terrain, which is intersected by various rivers and mountains.
A soft glow has been made to emanate from underneath the plinths and a network of strip lights have been installed across the ceiling in reference to city nightscapes.
Location: Beijing, China
Completion Year: 2019
As design assistant, completed the projects concept while taking part in the interior furniture and lighting design, also assisting in project administration and site supervision.
For me, the biggest challenge in this project is the overall control, especially the custom floor lamps and the terrazzo platforms as well as the coordination between different elements such as the lamps and the mirrors. I have gained so much experience throughout the project. Besides, I also participated in the design of the elevation.
The same terrazzo applied across the floor has been used to create a series of communal tables. Each one is surrounded by fold-out chairs, otherwise known as mǎzhá, which the studio selected for their resemblance to those typically seen outside Chinese food stalls.
The dishes offered by the restaurants are written on these boards, and when sold out, the boards would be flipped around to demonstrate its unavailability, which is the tradition of this brands, therefore we kept the elements but reinterpreted with the thick translucent acrylic boards adds a touch of playfulness.

WW M
WWMW extends the fabric of the center of Milan by weaving a system of “waterscapes”.
Three squares and three street crossings are converted into experiential spaces for pedestrians where water subverts the conventional rules of the streets, following a specific time related to the context.

336 total Milan squares
90 squares are crossroads
49 squares are roundabouts
27 squares are for car parks
A square is often the center of the community, also an economic, social, political and cultural life in a neighborhood, or more generally in the city, also it is closely linked to the history of a city and to its physical and urban characteristics. The expansion of the modern and contemporary city has not, however, been accompanied by the territorial spread of squares.
The following map of the spatial distribution of squares in Milan shows well how squares are largely concentrated in the central areas of the city and low density on the surroundings.
But what is interesting is that almost half of Milan’s 336 squares are not usable for people because they have vehicular characteristics, with roundabouts, intersections and car parks. And this feature also includes some squares that are located in the city center.
7
University of Milan
The use of car in Milan is probably one of the main problem not only for the pollution but also for the mobility, due to a very strong traffic congestion.
dense and less organized mesh of streets
This area of Milan is very full of activities, that moves from religion, culture, education and healthcare to some buildings that are under protection.
and more organized mesh of streets
The expansion of Milan was a gradual process that took place over centuries, adapting to the needs of the city’s population and its role as a political and economic center. Where we focused our attention is along the main axis of the city, the one that passes throw the Porta Romana gate and crosses Piazza Duomo proceeding to cut the whole Castello Sforzesco and Parco Sempione. In this axis we discover an aggregation of squares that are characterised by interesting landmarks of the city but share problematics related to the role of the piazza.
This area is pretty accessible with different trasport stop and lines, especially there are shared bikes and public transportation in the area of interestest.
The choice of working with water is related to the history of Milan, when canals of water were more integrated to the city centre, embracing the walls.
Starting from the second half of the 19th century, with the development of the railway and tram system, the Navigli river transport system began to slowly decline. And during the Fascist period, the Navigli were then gradually covered over.

The tide - Square Diaz
The timing of the square is based on the average tide timing in Genova. Water level changes constantly, and reaches the max in the average range of 6 hours.
When the tide rise the maximum level, the four platforms are surrounded by water like islands of a urban lake. The water level changes direct people through different paths.
LAY ON THE ISLANDS AND WAIT FOR THE TIDE
The citizens can experience the riverbank both along the path and on the tram. At night the wet surface of the square reflects the surrounding and Palazzo Martini. The trees axcentuate the intimacy feeling of the platforms as semi-public spaces.
The bigger basin is 160 cm deep: when it is full it reflects and amplifies the surrounding; when it is empty, people inside change their point of view and the context is hidden.

Missori is one of the most strategic mobility junctions, but lack of the attention to it historic significance.
It is becoming a new square: benches move from one side to the other of the street, and pedestrians feel much more involved in that space, attracted to the Crypt as a centerpiece.
As renewed core of the old church, the atoll attracts visitors around the center and become stage during events.
2_CONNECT TO THE SQUARE
Following tangents of the rings around the atoll, the project spreads in the street and reaches Piazza Missori.
3_LAND AROUND THE ATOLL
The aim is to connect the atoll with the square by cutting the street. Pedestrians are allowed to cross the street by pushing the benches to approach the island, walking from the other side.
The fountain follows the short time of the adiacent traffic light. It traps and isolates pedestrian when it’s the turn of cars, and leave them free to go when the green is back. Following a timing based on 30” units the vertical jets of water will gradually appear or disappear generating “walls”. In some moment of the day the water vertical jets are patially active or completely off giving precise rules of movement to people. During events, the water choreography is low and embrace the central part of the atoll that works as stage.

The riverbank - Node Velasca
Nodo Velasca is a strategic intersection point for many roads, but it is car-oriented instead of pedestrian preference. The project changes the conveyance of the main road: the now has a preferential route filled with water to generate a special cascade of events.
The river level is 5 cm high except for the curve where the tram will splash that is 20 cm deep.
The time system is based on the passage of the tram which is determining the happening of an event with an ephemeral fountain. The time schedule is based on the alternation of passages every 2.5 minutes ideally. When there is no tram passage, there are no waves but only the effect of the water reflection. The splash of the tram passage generates a dynamic fountain in the street as a real “water event”.
CROSS AND STOP
The project moves and reduces the car ways to set a bigger and safer bus and tram station.
\ALONG THE RIVER
The walkway along the river connects Missori to Velasca and suggests a romantic promenade between the spots.
RIVERBED
The splash is obtained thanks to the depression of the basin. The river level is 5 cm high except for the turning point, where the tram will splash that is 20 cm deep.

CATCH THE WAVES
People who are used to live this waterscape can understand immediately which direction the M3 train is arriving from, thanks to the movement of waves.
TOWER PROJECTION
The rocks and the granite pavements stripes are related to the facade of Tower Velasca, in order to cosist the harmony of the whole square by giving a visual connection, and people can appreciate the tower on the rocks.
Lighting
A soft spot light illuminates the rocks surfacecreating an intimate atmosphere, while an integrated lighting luminated the waves.
Piazza Velasca is a chaotic square mostly occupied by parking, also a crucial point of entry and exit from the METRO station. It is being transformed into a large “bathing space” activated by underground metro, instead of the disorder “parking role” and becoming a gathering place for people, meanwhile giving emphasis to the voluminous BBPR building.
A square or a seaside? When the metro is passing trough the station the water comes out and cover the square, in a single or double way (corrispondence of the 2 direction passage).
When the metro is gone or have to arrive, the water retires, generating a passage that leave the people more free to move and live and have fun in the “wet” square. The direction of water changes according to the metro arriving from Comasina or San Donato.

The aqueduct - Square Statale
Piazza Statale is an area for student activity, although green area is little used and lacks a meeting place. Therefore, it has been turned into a water system where benches allow students to freely experience the new square by providing a community space.
The square follows the monumental aspect of the Statale building and the lesson schedule, giving a livable space for students that can be always updated about time. The first 15 minutes of each hour (after the ringing of the bells) the water drops of the duct “step by step”, whith timing that differs proportionally to the longness of the segment of the aqueduct involved. So, when each accademic quarter the aqueduct overflows in the garden, students are recalled to go back in school.

The seaside - Square Velasca
Nodo Statale is a strategic junction of many roads. It is an important traffic point, always crowded and not well organized to direct bicycles and pedestrians. The new water fountain becomes a plaza that also serves as a “conveyor” for pedestrians and bicycles, engaging them to change the parking lot no longer in front of the university.

LISTEN TO THE WATER SOUND
During the whole night the water flows from the outfall because of the silence of the bell. The long bench along the fountain becomes a meeting point for evening promenades.

Millepiedi
Millepiedi is a project launched by SMOTIES. SMOTIESCreative works with small and remote places” aims at developing spatial and service solutions by designing cultural and creative innovations in 10 European small and remote places conducted by leading universities and experts in Europe.
The design solution created for the Basso Monferrato, precisely for Albugnano, is aimed to create a connection between people and nature. Thanks to the heterogeneous environment, the purpose is to project a temporary module structure where people can experience the landscape from a different perspective. Due to the creation of different height levels, users can enjoy nature in different detached ways. The project aims to protect and conserve the environment thanks to the choice of very light structures whose style is very coherent with the landscape. Furthermore, different modules are designed to allow many configurations, splitting the wood and the vineyard.

The structure placed in the wood, from the top view, has a curvilinear shape which allows to the construction to cross the wood trail. The combination of the different modules aims to enjoy the landscape, create a new prospective of the nature itself, and attract people into sport activities such as climbing, stretching, or doing a promenade.
The structure is divided in different modules which is made up of pieces inspired by the worm shape. In fact, the poles of the system recall the legs, and the slope simulates the movement of centipede. The chosen materials create playful transparencies thanks to the net. On one side, there is a net filled with stones, and on the other side there are horizontal sticks that create a climbing wall or invite users to do stretching.

Urban Shelter
In recent years, modern urban life have been involved to high tension and rapid pace. Particularly urban anxiety has become an unstoppable mental health issure in worldwild. Based on the fact, the project focuses on urban anxiety and provides people with an immersive space where they can undergo drama therapy in a ideal site. In addition, the interaction of play was created in order to break the fourth wall between traditional theater stage and audience, as well as to explore other forms of theater to enhance immersive atmosphere. Meanwhile, considering various possibilities of people's action, three theater types and paths were designed to achive the humanized intention. The final project result narrates the spatial effect and logic of the project through a humorous tour description.

Social survey Theory - Drama therapy
Spatial concept
A social questionnaire reavealed the current situation of "the mental state of modern social groups". The survey result shows that most young and middle-aged people are in a state of anxiety. However, although people have noticed and tried to improve the situation, there are less effective treatment except taking medicine. Particularly in China, most people still hold a conservative attitude towards the terms of "mental health" and "Psychotherapy".
From last century, many psychologists try to develop different approaches to improve mental problems, by musical treatment, behavior therapy, drama therapy, etc.
WHO IS HE?
Augusto Boal is one of the psychologists and dramatists have discovered that people's subconsciousness can be understood more correctly through their subconscious behaviors.
Circular shape gives more inclusivity and weaker sense of boundary than the traditional rectagular stage.
Psychologists believe that drama therapy is a way to reshape self-knowledge and expression. People's different behaviors in these scene simulations can project their own hearts, in which psychotherapists can observe and analyze.
Organic forms and curved surfaces can be perfectly combined with a fluid streamlines and guiding people to explore in space.
THEATRE OF THE OPPRESSED
Boal believes that there is a "policeman" in our brain created by secular standards that suppresses people's personalities. In Boal's "Theater of the Oppressed", participants and actors create a world of empathy collectively. The oppressed situation is not just a unique case. Everyone can participate and become the protagonist of this story to express feelings and inner self. This is the power that can be achieved in immersive drama.

This project is an attempt based on the attitude of death in traditional Chinese culture, and developed a new memorial way in a global immigration. Meanwhile, it is also an attempt to interpret funeral parlor in an artistic way, as well as positive and ecological, to reduce land occupation and meets the people's psychological needs of remembering their loved ones under the background of global population mobility.
In addition, the project not only includes the application of new building materials, but also the art practice which combines the light and shadow art and the sand painting projection principle. Since the feasibility of project has been verified through the chemical material test, such a new building material can become a carry-on souvenir for commemorating the relatives, build a new type of funeral home and make the urban integrated hot spot network be possible.
Funeral parlor | Cremation | Material innovation | Eco-friendly
Due to the influence of religion, national culture, geography and other factors, the major funeral forms in the world are burial in the ground and cremation. However, the two forms have brought some negative effects on the environment and urban development, which has become a significant issue in recent years.

The exploration of new forms is based on psychological needs and respect, while transforming grief into positive energy. On the other hand, considering the functional needs to transform the traditional storage of ashes in a more flexible mode. Shape of architecture
The building is devided into two parts. The public area is on the left which means real life, while the staff office and the remains operation are on the right which means past life. A auditorium is suspended between the two parts which is also a metaphor as a bridge between life and death.

The two buildings are extrem close but with a small gap in front which allows people see the backyard. This is another metapho which means eople always see death through the gap between life and death.
The preconstruction is imagined to be located in the suburb in the west Beijing, where the transportation is convenient, thanks to urban traffic network. Some national forest parks are surround the ideal site, which allow people to escape from the noise of the city and feel peace.
The introvert walls are consisted by glass bricks which allow natural lights enter interior. Besides, a lifting device is set in the auditorium. After funeral, the coffin could descend to the basement area for subsequent operation automatically.
People can walk by the stairs to approach to the glass brick of their loved ones. The dead also exist in a special way and become a part of this space.

According the great impact of pandemic to modern lifestyly, this project focuses on the future needs of urban living system and modern lifestyle, emphasizes the lung’s role in filtering air for the human body, and explores the possibility of future emergency urban building system by combining the alveoli bionic system with the building structure system.
Moreover, the project also explored the building combination forms based on the modular architecture and seeks for more possibilities of building skin by combining with the transformation and transportation of renewable energy.

The impact of the pandemic on people's lives may be temporary, but undoubtedly it will be far-reaching and profound in terms of behavior and consciouness. During the outbreak, people reconsidered the social relations and community, working mode and living space in a new way, which help us to explore more different possibilities of life style in postpandemic periord.
Lung system
Lung is one of the respiratory system of human body which supplies oxygen for the daily operation of human body. Therefore, in response to the future extreme environment, an "artificial lung" could be serve as the building system for supporting the operation of daily lifes by applying the principle of lung.
This purification system not only could be used for supplying green energy, it can also serve as a community to carry out activities and exchanges.

Borders are everywhere and affect our behaviors and lives. The project started from the existing borders of multiple reality, analyzed its various existing forms and symbolic meanings, and designed material experiments to blur the border by various methods of covering, wrapping, destroying and hiding.
On the other hand, as a real border in public space, roadblocks are the actual survey objects. Through the classification and analysis of phenomenology, obstacles are divided into two types of power confrontation, namely the top-down authority and the bottom-up authority. Therefore based on the material exploration, a border blur experiment was carried out on the combination of these two types of roadblocks, and the conclusions of the analysis of public behavior and social existence and metaphor experiments were drawn.

The game for territories
Wall is a universal existence through human history, no matter in the aspects of architecture or culture. From national borders to family units, humans always tend to build walls to draw their territories, in order to claim their authorities to the lands. In addition, this division strengthens territorial awareness and people's connection.
These walls not only divide the space into different frames, but also seperates people from a united community as in a fortress. Therefore the spontaneous communication are limited in specific public space due to people are isolated by various wall in the society.
What about human nature?
In fact, despite these solid walls as strong as the Great Wall or the Berlin Wall could not defend lands completely, why do governments and individuals still advocate building walls?
Fundamentally, it is a concretization of power. The boundry reflects the relationship between space and power obviously. Everyone is over-throwing, reshaping and dividing the borders of power. We can find this border game between countries, classes and individuals.
However when borders defined by power interfere people's daily life, people also responds, breaking and reshaping borders spontaneously, so that the borders that are being redefined constantly are in the normal state of ambiguity. This border defination makes initiative party and the passive sides into an opposition and confrontation, also making the border be more blur and uncertain. multiple independent fragments, which will influence the continuity of the space undoubtedly.
Therefore, I planed to conduct a series of experiments to invesitaget that how borders and its continuity reshaping by various factors, and how these changes affect the space and behaviors.

First phase - Material experiments
For the first part, I set a 40x40x40cm cube as a physical object of the blury experiment. Furthermore, I considered more possibilities of blurry method, by covering, wrapping, reshaping, disappearing with various material, in order to break, reshape and blur the objects. In the meantime, the connection between object and environment also changed visually and physically with time.
Reshaping Wrapping Covering
Disppearance
Regarding variety and flexibility of walls, I used bricks which is the fundamental material of wall as the object of disppearing, achieving the goal of blurring by smoke and ice, to explore the changes of the physical objects with time.

Barrier confrontation
Boundary in spaces usually devided by various barriers. Ironically, except the common road barriers or rules made by governments or power class, citizens also resist these limitation by their own barriers which usually are everyday objects. These two rivalries are blurring and forming new borders as a new norm in our society.

The presented confrontation
These confrontations are pretty common in China. Occationally I met this scene in a residence community: An adminstrator was drawing the border of the space. Meanwhile he was also facing the resistence of personal obstacles.
It presented an silence conflict between public and power class, on the other hand it also proved that "the border between the two kinds of power is always in a blurring ambiguity".
Second phase - Site experiment
In Beijing, occasionally I found the scene in a community, there were obstacles placed spontaneously by residents, who used their own methods to redefine the borders of the public space. An strong chain was used to lock objects and fence together. The combination showed a strong attitude for challenging the exisiting rules. I conduct an site experiments with this group of objects with previous blurring methods.

The five human senses are crutial that helping us to obtain comprehensive experience of spaces, as well as for establishing intimacy with others. However, nowadays people are losing the real intimate communication by a flood of virtual reality.
In this project, based on a famous influencial resort in China, I focused on the study of the affection of space on people’s sight, smell, taste, hearing, and touch, in order to encourage people to regain a sensory experience through an interior promenade design.
Meanwhile, the lights, wind, sound, and temperature are the important elements for designing the multiexperience in the promenade space. Besides, different materials and approaches are adopted to simulate the changes of forms and scales of the walking space.

SITE
Aranya Resort is a artistic coastal community in northern China which promotes an “utopia” concept to attract people to come for escaping from crowded urban life. However, Aranya has become an commercial and instagrammable stage, being away from the initial concept, by encouraging visitors to show on social medias instead of returning back to real experience. Therefore I intended to create a conceptual space for the pure experience in this community.

Lighting Improvement
Cadorna Station Square
The project is located in the Cadorna station square which was designed by Gae Aulenti with an intial idea of a galleries group which centre around pedestrians. However, in fact the space lacks a support of clear lighting environments about the flow, as well as the stucture itself。
Therefore, in this project the zones are divided into fast-pace area and slow-pace area, according the direction of different function, and giving different rhythms of lightings respectively. The original spatial structure are enhanced by lighting fixture, meanwhile a ideal event lighting mode are proposed to give more possibility for citizen activity.

Cadorna railway station is an important public transport conjunction in Milan. The suqare features junction underground station and stops for one tramway line and eleven bus lines. The main door-front entrance consisted by 9 linear canopies is chosen as the space of this lighting design project.
A series of luminaires with fan-shaped light emission positioned on the metal beams of the canopies, as the main lighting source for providing diffuse illuminance values on the walking ground. The current lighting does not meet the needs of space functions in a entrance square of railway station. Also the lighting doesn't interact with the structure, therefore it can not provide people with a clear guiding function.
