My goal was to reinforce the function of the building as an industrial production space with a contemporary dimension to the sawtooth roof.

North East Elevation
The covered walkway and arcade sought to engulf the pedestrians and expose them to the activities on the building’s interior. These spaces also double as extensions to the interior for outdoor activities like cafe sitting and market tables.

The air and ventilation units are located on the bottom of the walls thus the lack of hanging air handling equipment led to reduced material in structural members.

The vertical farm the envelope is comprised of hollow translucent polycarbonate sheets. The rest of the building alternates cladding from corrugated metal sheets to wood laminates fastened to the structure using the same system.

Done under: SA+P Morgan State Uni./ Individual Location: Fells Point Baltimore Year: Fall 2018 Description: 4 week Introductory sketch project Due to the limited/modest access to the water’s edge in Baltimore’s Inner Harbor, the brief required the refurbishment of the old pier to encourage people to experience the harbor directly, with close-up views and haptic experience with the water’s edge. I borrowed the idea of flowing formed concrete from Toyo Ito’s Crematorium project to emulate the waves of the river with the roof. ROOF APEX +35.8

Description: SE N SUAL H EA L ING through I NVISI B LE , F U NDA M E NTA L THERAPI ES This project was the first and foundation of the terminal project of the semester. Site is located in the heart of Pigtown, neighborhood to the south west of downtown Baltimore. The core question posed to us was why this area had not “Gentrified” given its location and amenities. However, the goal was to design a Health Facility thus the analysis focused on the health problems faced by the community in Pigtown.

Location: Pigtown, Baltimore Year: 2018 Spring Semester Description: Motion Centre was developed around the ideology that defines Wellness as a state of balance and harmony of 3 states i.e. Physical, Mental/Emotional and Social. In a bid to bring the Pigtown Community to this balance, the Motion Center was designed to address these through Active, Reactive and Passive technics. This robust system was derived from two fundamental human body functions, the Neuro and Musculoskeletal, where two parts are connected by a unit that facilitates for transference of energy from one part to the other in either direction. The voronoi design on the curtain wall is derived from the geometry that comes from cut bone and as it is located on the south most corner of the building, it presents a great opportunity to capture much of the sun’s energy for electricity.

Done under: Nzuzo M. Arch & P.M. Location: Durban, KZN, South Africa Year: 2017 Description: This was a proposal for a mixed use building. The street front block was an office block with a penthouse on top and the rear block was student accommodation. This was a project that was handed over to me in it’s conceptual stage. Originally the concept featured corridors on either side of the student block but I introduced a double loaded corridor within the student residence section to meet the client’s required number of units/profit margin. This consolidation of circulation trade off resulted in individual balconies to the rooms. Pool + Garden

Location: Umzumbe, KZN, South Africa Year: 2017 Description: This was a proposal for an indoor sports facility, a project that was handed over to me and further developed. The design was very much in its conceptual stage and the 3D Model was equally premature. Among the changes I made included the parking layout, the terraces canopy, the auxiliary spaces layout and the introduction of rainwater harvesting. The infusion of the Zulu Shield concept was also one of the changes I brought to the design to give it character and an identity.

The terrain posed the greatest challenge as I tried to come up with a layout that would not only efficiently deal with water management on site but also walk-ability. Project was going through council approval when I left the company and Phase 1 should be due for construction in 2019.
