TIN Arts is an innovative organisation that creates, delivers and manages participatory arts and culture programmes for people of all ages and abilities across the North East of England. About TIN Arts

About the GeTIN2… courses

Our GeTIN2… courses are a range of arts activities and participatory programmes for people with a learning disability.

Since 1999, we have been working tirelessly to create, deliver and manage participatory arts and cultural activities for individuals and groups across the North East of England.

GeTIN2... are a series of arts courses specifically created for people with a learning disability.

People with a learning disability can attend a regular weekly full-day of arts activities with TIN Arts at our own TIN Dance Space in Durham City.

Over that period we have worked with over 60,000 people and delivered at least 10,000 workshops while constantly striving to make arts and culture accessible to the community, reaching and engaging people of all backgrounds and abilities.

“TIN Arts’ approach as an organisation is always extremely person-centred and empowering, offering activities which can respond to a range of complex needs and challenges and which achieve excellent outcomes for their participants.”

From April 2012, TIN Arts will become a National Portfolio Organisation with Arts Council England funding to deliver an Inclusive Dance Offer for Durham.

David Shipman, Strategic Commissioning Manager, Durham County Council 1

TIN Arts are widely acknowledged as a leading inclusive dance organisation in the North East.

The courses have been delivered successfully in the North East of England since 2008. The GeTIN2Academy is created specifically for those young people with a learning disability aged between 18 – 25 years. The course has been designed to support the transition from school to community-based activity and acts as an introduction to the arts. The course covers a range of artforms including Dance, Drama and Music and allows time and space for each participant to find their talent before looking at progression options onto other GeTIN2… courses. All courses run one day a week for 36 weeks of the year (3 terms of 12 weeks).

The GeTIN2Academy

All of our practitioners are directly employed by TIN Arts and are qualified to Degree standard. All practitioners attend regular training and we work as a team to plan, prepare and create programmes together. All of our practitioners have an Enhanced CRB and have attended Safeguarding, Equity in Your Coaching and Emergency First Aid training. All carry identification with them when delivering. All practitioners are covered by TIN Arts’ Employers and Public Liability Insurance.

When, what, where and how? The GeTIN2Academy will start in September 2012. It will take place on a Friday with the day starting at 9.30am and finishing at 3.30pm. It will take place in our bright and airy ‘TIN Dance Space’ at our base in Framwellgate Moor, Durham. Each day is lead by a team of 2 professional arts practitioners and will consist of: A fun enjoyable movement warm-up Opportunities to move and create through dance Opportunities to act and create in drama Opportunities to sing or play an instrument in music Opportunities to experience a whole host of other artforms too! Time to rehearse new work created ready for performances! There are a maximum of 15 places available!

How to join All GeTIN2… courses are ‘pay to attend’. Most people can afford to meet the cost of attending through Direct Payments. That means that a person attending may have a direct payment to pay for their place on the course. If you want to come and have-a-go, we will be holding various OPEN DAYS from June – August 2012.
