Over the period of 2006 to 2015 Peter Rowe filmed 49 episodes of the television series "Angry Planet", in far flung locations on every continent.

During this period he also shot many hundreds of still photographs. The photos sometimes match the tone of the TV series, and other times go off on their own idiosyncratic path. The best of these are displayed here.

The photographs were taken with a variety of digital cameras including the Canon 5D, Canon 60D, Panasonic Lumix GH1 and GH4, Olympus Tough and GoPro. All photographs are by Peter Rowe, except for the back cover (of Peter Rowe and daughter Brianna Rowe on top of Acatenango Volcano) by Hailey Spurr.

Cover image: A waterfall spills over the mouth of Kitum Cave on Mt. Elgon, Kenya. The cave, thought to be carved out of the ground by elephants over thousands of years, is also believed to be ground zero for the Marburg-Ebola virus.

Peter Rowe Peter Rowe is a filmmaker, painter, photographer and writer, specializing in themes of exploration and adventure. Between 2006 and 2015, Peter produced and filmed 49 episodes of the series “Angry Planet”, shooting on all seven continents. During this period he created the photographs seen in this book.

The “Angry Planet” television series plays on television networks around the world.

Rowe has also filmed biographies, nature docs, investigative pieces, and features such as “Treasure Island” (Winner – Houston Film Festival), “The Best Bad Thing” (WinnerBest Film, Montreal Children’s Film Festival) and “Lost!” (Genie Nominee). Television series’ that he has directed include “On the Run”, “Super Humans”, and “African Skies,” Rowe has also performed as an actor, mostly recently playing Hunter S. Thompson in the TV biography “Final 24”. Recent awards include a Gold Remi Award from the Houston Film Festival, and two CSC Awards (2010 and 2011) for Cinematography for “Angry Planet”, a Randonnee prize for one of the photos in this book, and the Steffanson Medal of The Explorers Club. He was recently named one of “Canada’s Top 100 Explorers” by Canadian Geographic Magazine.

Rowe is the Ontario/Nunavut Director of the Canadian Chapter of The Explorers Club, past Ontario President of the Directors Guild of Canada, and a fellow of the Royal Canadian Geographic Society. His book “Adventures in Filmmaking” was published in 2013.

For 600,000 years, this cave, in Chihuahua, Mexico, was filled with volcanically heated water, that created these amazing, huge crystals. Once it was accidentally drained and discovered, we were among the first people to be able to enter and film the Crystal Cave.
