he Anthem Community Council held its first in-person public safety roundtable since the COVID-19 outbreak. June 8, first responders from Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office and the Phoenix Police Department shared updates on cases and statistics while the Daisy Mountain Fire Department and Anthem Community Council addressed their concerns.

Daisy Mountain Fire contains brush blaze BY TARA ALATORRE Foothills Focus Contributing Writer
M
ore than 60 firefighters battled a brush fire that consumed nearly 4 acres of land west of Interstate 17 and north of Pioneer Road on June 2. Daisy Mountain Fire and Medical (DMFM) along with units from Phoenix Fire, Peoria Fire and Medical, Glendale Fire, Arizona Fire and Medical Authority, Bureau of Land Management and Arizona Department of Fire and Forestry management worked together to contain the blaze.
No injuries nor structure damage were reported, according to Daisy Mountain Fire and Medical’s Public Information Officer Brent Fenton. “The fire was threatening the Pioneer RV Park, Pioneer Living History Museum and a federal prison,” Fenton said. “Crews were able to quickly stop the forward progress of the fire and prevent it from spreading to any nearby structures.” Crews remained on the scene for several hours extinguishing the fire and ensuring hotspots were contained. Always keep outdoor safety in mind,” DMFM said in a statement to the press. “Wildfires can start from vehicles, campfire or debris burning on private property.” The Daisy Mountain Fire District — which includes Anthem, Black Canyon City, Desert Hills and New River — implemented Stage II fire restrictions on June 1, due to the extreme fire danger conditions.
