Cornhole, food trucks and beer are coming to Ahwatukee Park on March 19 for the Wags and Bags Festival, a cornhole tournament to benefit the rescue pups of Valley Dogs Rescue. Ahwatukee residents Marci and Josh Miller teamed up with Ahwatukee Skin and Laser to put on a day of community fun that will raise money for the no-kill animal rescue while spreading skin care and skin cancer awareness.
Doors open at 1 p.m. and the cornhole will commence at 1:30 p.m., although participation in the tournament is not required. Teams of two can register to compete online for $50 per team. The tournament will be limited to 80 teams and will operate as a two-person double elimination for a tournament purse of $600. Each player will receive a “swag bag” courtesy of the event sponsors. Non-players can pay a $5 entrance fee and enjoy a day of food, drinks, live music, games and priz-
es until 9 p.m. Children younger than 12 and dogs on leashes get in for free. Local food trucks Modern Tortilla, Burgers Amore and Press Italian Street Food Truck are rolling down to Ahwatukee for the event along with refreshments by Pedal Haus Brewery and Tito’s Handmade Vodka. This year, Tito’s will be serving a signature cocktail called the Fountain of Doggy Youth, made with Tito’s vodka, acai liquor, lemonade and mint. >> See Wags and Bags on page 30
With Easter just around the corner, Easter eggs are starting to be packed and hidden. Many people will hide numerous eggs this season and New Heights Church of Chandler is hiding a lot of them in Ahwatukee — 15,000 to be exact. On Saturday, March 19, New Heights Church will host its fifth free Easter egg hunt at Mountain Vista Park, located at 48th Street and Knox Road, for children 2 years old to fifth grade. The event begins at 10 a.m.

“We’re just wanting to give back to the community,” said Amanda Williams, one of the organizers of the egg hunt. “And give an opportunity for families to come and enjoy something that’s free and fun for the kids.” >> See Easter Egg Hunt on page 30
