Dozens of protesters marched and held signs in front of the Glendale Police Department February 11 after a 2017 video of officers Tasing a man 11 times went viral, landing millions of views in just two days. They were demanding the firing of Matt Schneider and Mark Lindsey, the two officers who allegedly Tased Johnny Wheatcroft, who has filed a civil lawsuit over the incident. According to a video released February 8, Johnny Wheatcroft, who was a passenger in a car, was Tased repeatedly after refusing to show his identification outside of a hotel at 59th Avenue and Glenn Drive.
He was in the vehicle with his wife, Anya Chapman, their two children, and a family friend, Shawn Blackburn. Protestors chanted “What do we want? Justice!” outside the police station while holding signs against police brutality. “I really think the man needs a psychological evaluation and should never, ever have been on the police force,” said John Zinburean about the officer during the protest. Members of the religious community also said people should “not buy or do anything in the city of Glendale; this city is not safe for people to be in.” Protesters asked for all officers involved to be fired, charged and the family to be

Glendale police and reporters clashed before a February 11 press briefing, which was slated to start at 2:30. It was moved to 4 p.m., and while waiting for the briefing to begin, TV reporters repeatedly tried to get police on camera. They were told recording devices were not allowed due to ongoing litigation. Public Information Officer Sgt. John Roth said he didn’t want raw video recorded. As they left, the reporters were given the videos with the children’s faces blurred and names edited out. “This is a full information briefing. SEE TASING PAGE 2
