FAMILY FEATURES

f you’ll be hosting friends and family to honor Easter this year, make your gathering as simple as it is scrumptious with a decadent brunch menu. If you’re daunted by the diversity of dishes a brunch menu demands, remember that quality ingredients — not complex preparation — is what makes dishes truly stand out. Fresh produce and superior products instantly elevate a recipe from good to great. These brunch staples all start as basics, but get a boost with the right combination of quality ingredients:

Made-to-order omelets are always a hit because they guarantee

you’re serving up exactly what your guests enjoy. Use a few winning ingredients to create an easy and quick omelet base, then offer an array of toppings, including unexpected flavors such as Jarlsberg Brand Cheese. Best known for its classic wedge, this nutty, mild cheese is also available in slices — perfect for the ooey-gooey factor everyone loves in an omelet.

A classic French quiche

combines fresh and flavorful ingredients, is easy to make and tastes delicious hot or cold. The quiche is simple enough to make that you can prepare several varieties, giving guests plenty of options and handily filling a buffet spread. Simply

prepare your crust and filling base then mix in fresh, crisp veggies that are steamed or lightly browned. Or create a savory, meaty quiche with your favorite sausage or bacon. Add some cheese before filling the crust and sprinkle some more cheese on top before baking.

Finger foods bursting with flavor simply make brunch better.

This recipe uses ready-rolled puff pastry sheets, rosemary and the distinctive taste of Jarlsberg Brand Cheese for a mouthwatering dish that can be featured at a tasting station or as part of a larger meal. Find more recipes for your Easter brunch at jarlsberg.com.

150 Veterans of Ride 2 Recovery By MAGGIE BOWERS maggie@newnan.com

Newnan welcomed more than 200 injured veterans and friends at the VFW and American Legion recently. VFW Post 2667, located at 130 Veterans Club Rd., hosted a rest stop and lunch for cycling group, Ride 2 Recovery. The event was the first stop on the national organization’s Gulf Coast Challenge, which began in Atlanta and continued to New Orleans, LA. The group is scheduled to reach New Orleans today. “I pay tribute to my veteran comrades and to the huge turnout of organizations and individuals who came out to help and to cheer. The buffet lunch was a bounty of barbecue, soups, veggies, fruit and even some great cookies,” said Richard Stender, an organizer for the local event, in a Facebook post following the lunch. “As always, I am moved by the serving spirit of our community. It’s just the way things are in Newnan.”

NHS and ECHS History Clubs Combine Forces By CELIA SHORTT celia@newnan.com

Despite being rivals in athletics, two Coweta County high schools are working together to give their students more learning opportunities. Recently, East Coweta High School started a history club, and Newnan High School stepped in to help the school get it off the ground. “Last year, some students approached (teachers) Levi Young, Jennifer Sandlin, and Amy Johnson with a proposal to start a history club,” said ECHS U.S. History teacher Erica Pater. “They wanted an avenue to share their love of

history with the school and the community. They came back and pitched their presentation, and we kicked off the club this year with four advisors and 32 students.” The advisors of East Coweta’s history club are Young, Sandlin, Pater, and Johnson. “With Newnan having such a well established history club, it is so great to have a wonderful mentor program just on the other side of the county,” she added. “I sit on the board of advisors for the National History Club, and I have now been
