It is precisely these moments that Raphael Macek captures like none other. Looking at one of his images, viewers can sense the vital force of a horse. Working closely with different cultures while searching for models has had an impact on his life and style, as well as helped to shift his focus toward the natural world.

In 2007, Macek earned his Master of Fine Arts in New York City. In the years that followed, he published work in Germany, Belgium, France, Spain, Portugal, Netherlands, Japan, Mexico, Argentina, Brazil, the United Arab Emirates, Canada and the U.S. Over the course of his career, Macek has become known for his unique ability to capture the beauty of animal subjects, conveying their emotions and essence.

Horses of different breeds have served as Macek’s

models. His work has been recognized worldwide in important art exhibitions, art fairs, private showings, and publications.

Today, Raphael Macek is at home around the world. He is dedicating himself to his own projects, such as Equine Beauty. His ongoing mission is to show animals in all their splendor—horses in particular, as they represent his true passion.

Today in general there seems to be a dictatorship set up in the contemporary art world—an integrated system among institutions, curators, critics, galleries, press and collectors that defines the rules of who can be in or outside of it. Behind the politics of this system there’s often no real interest in the actual content or quality of an artwork; rather it simply suffices for the ‘powers that be’ to designate upon a work the label of ‘art’.

Kuta Beach tops the list for locals and tourists alike.

It’s busy, and can appear intimidating to a beach goer looking for peace and quiet, but the waves and the old charm of Kuta remains today. Spend your day surfing, or leisurely walking the beach, buying trinkets and keepsakes from local vendors.

Sanur Beach is a destination hotspot for those vacationers looking for something a little different than the hustle and bustle of Kuta. The beach here is guarded by the Sanur Reef, so the waves are calm, promoting relaxation and creating a perfect spot for swimming.

Green Planet Tagua - the Vegetable Ivory

SAVING ELEPHANTS THESE MAJESTIC CREATURES WRITTEN BY KENZA HENOUDA

WHILE MOST COUNTRIES ARE CALLING FOR A WORLDWIDE BAN ON IVORY (CHINA’S WENT INTO EFFECT IN 2018), THERE ARE STILL PLACES WHERE SELLING IVORY FROM LEGAL STOCKPILES IS ACCEPTABLE. THAILAND, THE UNITED STATES, UNITED KINGDOM AND JAPAN ARE ALL GUILTY OF THIS.

The ivory trade is brutal. At least 140,000 elephants have been lost to the ivory trade in the last 10 years, and as they continue to disappear. Bans on international trade have discouraged the slaughter of elephants, but the demand for polished ivory has pushed the world’s largest living land animal to the brink of extinction.

Putting a stop to the trade is crucial and can be stopped just like anything else in history…awareness. People have to see, with their own eyes, how detrimental the absence of the elephants will be to the world we live in now, including the acceleration of climate change.

They should be made aware of those risking their lives to save elephants every single day. They also need to know that the mere desire to possess ivory is greedy.

Having an ivory trinket is not worth the devastation it causes, and thanks to the “Vegetable Ivory”, it’s can be obsolete.

The Tagua nut comes from a species of tree known as Phytelephas (“plant elephant”), or the ivory palm.

They get their name from the hard white seed that they produce, known as the Tagua nut. Tagua palms can grow up to eight meters high! Every year one Tagua Palm can produce about fifteen large balls that consist of a hard shell adorned with thick thorns.

The Tagua Nuts are edible, and have a brown skin with white pulp inside. When properly dried, hardened and polished bears a striking resemblance to elephant ivory.

With the Tagua, artisans are making exceptional works of craftsmanship producing items that are eco-friendly and support conservation along with fair trade practices.

The world is still waiting for the day when elephants no longer have to fear poachers, and Tagua presents a wonderful opportunity for just that. As the demand for ivory lowers, so will the constant, unnecessary slaughter of our beloved elephants.

African elephant populations are actually growing in southern Africa, but continue to fall in other areas. Central Africa and parts of East Africa are seeing declining numbers, with an estimated 415,000 elephants on the continent itself. They are vulnerable, to say the least.

Asian elephant numbers, on the other hand, have dropped by at least 50% over the last three generations.

They continue to decline today. There are 40,00050,000 Asian elephants left in the wild, and they have been officially labeled as endangered.

Awareness has risen to an all time high in countries around the world as elephants face certain extinction.

Closing down any legal avenues of the ivory trade is an imperative step to the beginning of a much needed end.

Through one-onone support, our team helps students appreciate all forms of intelligence, maximize their potential, and get into colleges where they will thrive not just as scholars but as human beings. We provide academic support for high school subjects as well as standardized tests (ACT, SAT, AP, TOEFL, Subject Tests, etc.) and guidance through the college application process.

What academic year do you advise students begin with your company?

Students should begin working with us as soon as their high school career starts. Our team of advisors helps younger students understand which classes to take, how to make summers count, and when to start prepping for standardized tests. The earlier students start with us, the more successful they can be! For test prep, we advise students begin as early as spring

of their sophomore year to take diagnostic tests and develop a plan for when to take the ACT or SAT.

“Manet and Modern Beauty”

Joan Miró - Birth of the World

Manet is a perennial crowd pleaser, but this exhibit focuses on his later works, including small but lively watercolors, large-scale multifigure paintings like In the Conservatory and Boating, and portraits of women like Jeanne Demarsy and Méry Laurent, represented as personifications of spring and fall. More than 90 works are on view, along with rarely seen letters Manet wrote to his friends, embellished with finely detailed illustrations of fruits and flowers.

Drawn from MoMA’s unrivaled collection of Miró’s work, augmented by several key loans, this exhibition situates The Birth of the World in relation to other major works by the artist. It presents some 60 paintings, works on paper, prints, illustrated books, and objects—made primarily between 1920, the year of Miró’s first, catalytic trip to Paris, and the early 1950s, when his unique visual language became internationally renowned—to shed new light on the development of his poetic process and pictorial universe.
