We’re working to build the most trusted entertainment platform in the world, and the safety of our community is the foundation that makes this possible. Here’s a glimpse of some of the steps we’ve taken this quarter to create a platform built on safety, privacy and transparency.
The Digital Services Act (DSA) came into effect on 28th August. From changes to how our community can report content to the introduction of non-personalised ‘Popular’ feed, learn how TikTok is meeting the DSA requirements here, and stay up to date on our latest transparency data in our European Online Safety Hub.
Our industry-leading approach to data governance and data localisation is based on the principles of storing data locally, minimising data transfers outside of the region, and further reducing employee access to TikTok user data. As part of our commitment, we’re pleased to announce a third-party data security company will oversee and audit data controls and protections, monitor data flows, provide independent verification and own incident reporting.
People in the European Economic Area, United Kingdom, and Switzerland aged 13 to 17 will no longer see personalised ads on TikTok based on their activities on or off TikTok. We’re also refining our approach to content transparency. A new ‘promotional content’ label is required when a brand posts organic content to promote their own business.
Our Transparency Forum event series is an opportunity to discuss updates and tangible progress in making TikTok the safest place for creative self-expression. Join us for a dedicated DSA session or an update on Project Clover.
