It is located at the end of Šútovská valley roughly 4 km from Šútovo village. Ruins of the castle are at an altitude of 658 m above sea level, about 2 km far from the distinctive village of Blatnica which has the typical rural architecture of original houses of oil and saffron makers. Thanks to its position at the edge of the Turiec fold Blatnica is an ideal point of departure for hikes to the most visited valleys of the Veľká Fatra Mountains - Gaderská and Blatnická valleys. An easy educational footpath leads from the Gaderská valley to the castle and is suitable for even the youngest of visitors to the region. www.hradblatnica.sk

The village of Kláštor pod Znievom is a good point of departure for a walk to Zniev Castle which is situated 15 km from Martin. Kláštor pod Znievom is a village with the richest history in the Turiec Region (monastery of Premonstratesians, the Slovak Catholic Grammar School building and town hall). Above the village at an altitude of 985m above sea level, shines Zniev Castle, the second highest situated castle in Slovakia. On the way to the ruins of the castle tourists can also visit the monasterial calvary. From the castle there is an interesting view of the winding Turiec river (meanders) and the national reserve Kláštorské lúky. www.obecklastor.sk

Turiec is so beautiful that in past people believed it to be a Lost Paradise. Turiec lies in the central and north-western part of Slovakia, surrounded by the Malá Fatra and Veľká Fatra mountains, the Kremnické vrchy mountains, and Žiar. The Turiec fold is one of the most significant and highest situated basins in Slovakia. There are excellent conditions for summer and winter sports activities. Villages under mountains with typical folk architecture, warm-hearted people, folk traditions and cultural monuments attract many tourists to visit the Turiec Region. The district of the city Martin is the heart of the region and a centre of national culture of Slovaks. Martin has a rich national and cultural history, and in the past, was a key driving force in the history of Slovakia. The various mineral springs and Turčianske Teplice spa, are famous abroad too and are also situated in the Turiec Region. A decision to spend your holiday in Turiec would mean discovering wonders of nature, fishing, hunting, cycling and tourist activities, skiing, horse-riding, familiarizing yourself with the life of local people, traditions, culture and history, and most of all, revitalizing yourself in natural surroundings.

There are 6 ski-lifts of various types and four-seat chair-lifts available for visitors in the Jasenská valley ski resort (530 m a.s.l.). A great advantage of the resort is its modern artificial snow generating system which helps to prolong the skiing season. There are also excellent conditions for cross-country skiing and hitchhiking in the Jasenská valley. The resort is still appealing in the summer season particularly for families with children, tourists, and cycle-tourists. www.jasenskadolina.sk
