When I reflected in last December’s edition of One magazine on how unusual and challenging 2020 had been, I really didn’t expect to be doing the same thing this year! Once again the whole Landsec | Aspire family has risen to the challenge, demonstrating its continued commitment and resilience. Thank you all for your fantastic efforts to keep our customers, guests and communities as safe as possible during 2021.

We are definitely looking forward to the return of more social events for Aspire members next year – watch this space.

Although, regrettably, we have had to postpone our Christmas party until 25th February (please put the date in your diaries), we were able to enjoy our annual Christmas Jumper Day. Well done to everyone who took part

As we look forward to 2022, we can be optimistic. You may have heard that Landsec has just completed the purchase of U+I, a specialist in property regeneration. This acquisition secures not only a significant pipeline of mixed-use development schemes, but also valuable additional expertise for implementing our growth strategy.

There’s nothing quite like festive lights and festooned spruces to make you feel all Christmassy! Once again this year, the decorations across the London Portfolio are fantastic and a number of Aspire members helped to make the magic happen. From the office reception areas to the outside retail spaces, Christmas has arrived!

Back in October, four members of Aspire personally helped to select our office reception Christmas trees, guided by landscaping Service Partner, Windowflowers. Then in December, a feast of outdoor illuminated displays were installed across our estates at Nova, One New Change, New Street Square and Cardinal Place. Designed and installed by the James Glancy team, these modern and stylish decorations add to the festive spirit of excited shoppers.

Of course, once delivered to site, more Aspire colleagues got involved with the seasonal activities – from security staff helping to manage the installation to engineering colleagues ensuring safe power connection.

All in all, it has been a great team effort – and the results are nothing short of spectacular. Well done, everyone!

Christmas Jumper Day Wow! The Aspire community definitely rose to the challenge of bringing some much-needed festive cheer to the London Portfolio for our annual Christmas Jumper Day on Friday 10th December.

Nova North Marina Novoselskaja, Receptionist with Rapport, is just a month into her new job as Dedicated Cover for all Landsec properties in the London Portfolio. Marina says she likes moving around the buildings and getting to know new people.

She is Russian, coming from the Moscow area, but she thinks her Christmas Day meal will be a traditional Romanian dish because she’s spending the big day with friends from Romania. Marina admits that she usually spends a whole day watching Christmas movies during the holidays, with Home Alone 2 being her favourite festive film.

N atalie Tam will be spending Christmas with her boyfriend’s family.

16 Palace Street A ndreea Stan, Receptionist with Rapport at 16 Palace Street, is looking forward to Christmas because her mum will be visiting from Romania. On the menu for Christmas Day will be roast pork, lots of cake and Prosecco! She explains that it’s traditional in

Romania for people of all ages to write a letter to Santa to put under the Christmas tree that lists all the things that they want to happen in the New Year. Andreea’s Christmas wish is simple – she wants good health and to spend time with her mum.

Due to lack of time, Marcia Medeiros will be at home with her husband and son this Christmas rather than travelling back to Portugal. A Cleaner with NJC, her idea of the perfect Christmas is drinking mulled wine while watching her favourite festive movie, The Christmas Chronicles.

Top of Marcia’s wish list this season is “peace and an end to Covid”. Well said, Marcia!

This year, he’ll be celebrating with just his wife, but he’s looking forward to spending two weeks in his native Brazil in February.

Antonio comes from the state of Santa Catarina, which he says has no less than 147 beaches!

C atia Silva, Cleaning Supervisor for NJC at Nova South, will be spending the festive season with family in Portugal this year, where it’s traditional to eat salted cod at Christmas. However, Catia’s favourite food is Octopus – that’s six more legs to go around than on a turkey!

F lorie Bura won’t be visiting family in Paris this holiday but she enjoys cooking at home.

Sadly Christiana Bamidele has had to cancel her trip to Nigeria this Christmas.

All Andy Merritt wants for Christmas is for “West Ham to win the Premier League”!

Dapaah Owusu will be tucking into roast lamb for his Christmas dinner.

Z sofia Mate’s favourite Christmas movie is The Grinch.

Zig Zag Building R ita Franco recently joined Aspire as Receptionist with Rapport.

Rita will be going home to her native Portugal in order to spend Christmas with family. She’ll be tucking into turkey for Christmas lunch, followed by salted cod in the evening, all washed down with some mulled wine.

L issania Charlton is a Receptionist with Rapport. Her family hails from Jamaica, where the traditional Christmas dinner features a variety of Caribbean food. Her Christmas treat is Sorrel, a Jamaican drink featuring rum, fruit and seasonal spices. Lissania admits to watching the movie Home Alone every year and says it “never gets old”.

Lloyd McConkey was meant to be spending the festive season in South Africa but has had to change his plans due to the latest twists and turns of the pandemic. At home he’ll be eating either roast beef or roast pork, accompanied by “anything with bubbles”. Asked what’s on his Christmas list, Lloyd quips, “a million pounds”.

Cardinal Place J ulian Vergara’s family open their presents at midnight on Christmas Eve.

Dashwood H annah Ojolola, Receptionist with Rapport at Dashwood, will be going back to the family home in North London to spend Christmas with her nearest and dearest.

“Christmas Eve is my mum’s birthday, so I can make a fuss of her,” she says. Hannah admits that her family eats a lot of food – Jollof rice and plantain, as well as turkey – because they go “all out” at Christmas. She says she has to watch the film Home Alone some time over Christmas, along with a Harry Potter movie.

123 Victoria Street M aria Caccia, Receptionist for Rapport at 123 Victoria Street, will be spending this Christmas in the UK but says that the festive season in her home country of Argentina is quite different. “It’s summer there, so we’re normally in T-shirts, not jumpers, and we’re outside by the pool.” Argentinians traditionally eat pork or lamb for Christmas. Maria will be treating herself to Panettone this Christmas, washed down with either cider or Baileys.

Delia Villacis, Cleaning Supervisor with NJC at 123 Victoria Street, will be spending Christmas with her sister this year and expects they will watch a movie or two together. The tradition in her family is to open presents after midnight on Christmas Eve, with the kids being allowed to stay up late. Delia’s Christmas indulgence is a glass of Baileys. Well, why not?

Myo at Dashwood R ose Nwosu is Member Concierge for Myo at Dashwood. She likes cooking (she says she did a lot of it during lockdown), which is good because this Christmas she’s catering for 10 – her parents, her four brothers, her niece and two nephews! Although she has cooked Christmas dinner before, this will be the first time without help from her mum. “I’ll do all the prep on Christmas Eve,” she says, although she has not decided what to cook yet. “Not turkey – maybe beef and chicken, and possibly seafood too,” she says.

Her family opens presents in the evening on Christmas Day, so the kids have to be extremely patient!

Asked what her Christmas glass will contain, Rose says she’ll be drinking Baileys to keep her Mum company, as she loves it.

Tania Diaz, Member Concierge with Myo, is hosting Christmas for the very first time, with at least six guests and possibly more! Her family is Portuguese, with her Mum hailing from the island of Madeira, but she hasn’t managed to spend a Christmas in Portugal yet. Her folks celebrate on Christmas Eve with a fish dish, followed by roast beef on Christmas Day. “Food is the best part of Christmas,” she says.

Hestia

Solace Women’s Aid

Food Cycle

Hestia began providing support to adults in crisis in 1970 after founder Jim Horne experienced street homelessness in London. He started a soup run for men and women living on the streets and worked with local authorities to provide accommodation. Within the year, over 800 people were provided with a safe space to sleep at night.

Solace help women to escape domestic and sexual violence across London.

They provide advice, support and accommodation to those families in need.

Serves lunches and dinner made from reclaimed and surplus food to those in the UK who are hungry and lonely.

With the help of volunteers, it serves over 1,400 people per week and guests have the opportunity to meet and make friends with people in their community as well.

Hestia is now one of the largest providers of domestic abuse refuges in London and the South East and the main organisation supporting victims of modern slavery in the capital.

Trussell Trust Network With an aim to end hunger and poverty in the UK, Trussell Trust is a nationwide network of food banks that provides emergency food and support for people locked in poverty.

Providence Row Providence is a homelessness charity based in Spitalfields (just to the east of the City) and does amazing work tackling homelessness in central and east London – an issue that over the last year has continued to increase. They are relatively small, so Aspire partners can see exactly what their fundraising is being used to achieve. All funds raised really make a difference.

Caxton Youth Caxton’s mission is to develop independent living, educational, health and social skills in order to promote inclusion, participation and effective citizenship. The organisation provides a comprehensive programme of activities.

The youth club aims to provide the young people with facilities for recreation and informal education so that they may grow to their full potential and that their conditions of life may be improved.

RECOGNITION FOR BRYAN AND MARIN

C

Congratulations to both Bryan Villenas and Marin Rupa for receiving Gratitude Awards from NJC. Bryan, who is Service Manager at 62 Buckingham Gate, was praised by Ross Wiles, Workspace Manager, who said: “Not only is Bryan a nice guy, he’s proactive, willing to help and extremely engaging.”

Marin Rupa, part of the team at Cardinal Place, received his award for helping an elderly gentleman who had had an accident in the street that resulted in the loss of a lot of blood. Afterwards, Marin took the initiative to collect cleaning products and remained with the security team beyond the end of his shift to complete the clean-up.

Well done, Bryan and Marin!

11 Jan PURPLE TUESDAY 365

Blind date January’s Purple Tuesday 365 webinar – entitled ‘Engaging with your Visually Impaired Customers’ – will take place at 12.30pm on Tuesday 11 January.

The webinar is scheduled to be close to World Braille Day, which is celebrated on 4 January (the birthday of its inventor, Louis Braille) every year. Braille, which uses a system of raised dots to enable visually impaired people to read with their fingers, is used in almost every country in the world.

This virtual event promises top tips for enhancing the customer experience for blind and visually impaired people. All members of the Landsec | Aspire community are welcome to take part in the webinar – please speak to your line manager if you would like to book a place.
