What with the recent annual Landsec | Aspire Staff Recognition Awards and Christmas Party, plus the excitement surrounding the results of our Future of Facilities programme, December has been much busier than usual. It’s been a period of both looking back and looking forward. Our awards ceremony always provides the opportunity to reflect on the performance of the Aspire team during the year and give praise where it’s due. The fact that we had so many strong nominations across our seven categories demonstrates just how fantastic your commitment and collaboration have been this year. And the culmination of Future of Facilities, with the award of new contracts from April 2024, gives us the chance to look forward. In the new year, we’ll be introducing our new Service Partners in this magazine and we can’t wait to get to know them better.
2023 has been a successful year for the Aspire community in so many ways. Our fundraising activities – including the Golf Day, Annual Quiz and Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge – have helped us reach a total of over £38,000 to date for our charity partner, Caxton Youth. Service Partners have also stepped in to help the Caxton team by sharing their expertise. Thank you to all those who have got involved with either fundraising or volunteering this year. Of course, the icing on the Aspire cake was winning the Collaboration category at the IWFM Awards – well done and thank you, everyone! With photos from our traditional end-of-year party and Christmas Jumper Day, this issue should help to get you in the festive spirit. As an eventful year draws to a close, I wish you and your families a very Merry Christmas and a peaceful and healthy 2024!

of giving Decorated trees, colourful lights and Christmas music have ensured a festive atmosphere right across the London Portfolio.

With seasonal treats, sparkly decorations and Yuletide tunes for our customers and visitors, it has definitely been the most wonderful time of the year! In addition to Landsec’s traditional ‘Seasonal Cheer’ – Christmas refreshments and music offered to customers across the London Portfolio – a number of pop-up stands and market stalls, both inside and outside, have provided a really magical feel. “The pop-ups have given our customers the opportunity to purchase Christmas gifts for their loved ones or themselves,” says Brad Cordrey, Workplace Manager, “or indulge in a variety of food items – because it wouldn’t be Christmas without eating a little too much!”

Christmas Giving Tree The Giving Tree Thank you to Aspire members and customers for supporting the Giving Tree campaign again this Christmas. The initiative, which ran from 1 to 18 December this year, is the brainchild of KidsOut, an organisation dedicated to giving positive experiences to disadvantaged children. The idea is to create a fun alternative to the office Secret Santa, with those taking part buying a gift for a child instead of a colleague. Our front-of-house friends from Rapport provided tags that gave a child’s first name, age and dream gift. Participants then tied their tag on the Christmas tree in the reception area, bought the desired item and dropped the unwrapped gift off at the reception desk. The presents are delivered by KidsOut to children in need at local refuges and other locations. They may have escaped domestic violence, being forced to flee their homes quickly and leaving all their possessions behind. Without the Giving Tree campaign, these children may not otherwise receive a gift at Christmas. Thank you to everyone who helped to make this such a success!
WrapUp London We have once again been collecting pre-loved winter coats for the WrapUp London campaign, which ran from 13 November to 1 December. Our wonderful front-of-house teams organised the donation points in the reception areas of 80-100 Victoria Street, One New Change, New Street Square, Dashwood, 55 Old Broad Street and The Forge. Over 300 coats were collected, which is an absolutely fantastic total.
Many thanks to Susana de Oliveira (Receptionist at 123 Victoria Street) and Jessica Pilakis (Deputy Guest Services Manager) of Rapport for taking the lead in this worthy project. Now in its 13th year, WrapUp London is organised by the charity HandsOn London, which has distributed almost 200,000 coats to homeless people and others in need since 2011.

Seasonal Cheer The ever-popular programme of Seasonal Cheer returned to the London Portfolio once again. Organised by Jasmin Byrne, Experience Enhancement Manager, and Brad Cordrey, Workplace Manager, the events provided live entertainment and festive refreshments across all Landsec sites. “The entertainment featured choirs, magicians, saxophonists and harpists,” explains Brad Cordrey, “while the food and drink included festive favourites such as mince pies, sausage rolls and mulled wine – although the pistachio blondie was my particular favourite! The feedback from customers, Aspire team members and Landsec colleagues has been overwhelmingly positive,” continues Brad. “Special mention must go to Melissa Harvey, Jessica Pilakis and the Rapport team for assisting with the delivery of these events, as we wouldn’t have been able to do this successfully without their help.”

At our annual awards, the Aspire family came TogetherAsOne to recognise and reward those who have gone above and beyond this year.
With the theme of Glitz & Glamour, over 120 award nominees and other invited guests were welcomed at 10 Union Street with a glass of fizz before enjoying a three-course meal with wine. Entertainment was provided by The Singing Waiters, who at first appeared to be talented kitchen and waiting staff but were in fact professional performers. After a rousing rendition of ‘Nessun dorma’ from ‘chef Umberto’, the trio picked out guests to go up on stage and join in with singing ‘Mamma Mia’ and ‘Mustang Sally’. Then everyone formed a huge circle around the room for a highkicking version of ‘Sweet Caroline’! The awards ceremony began with a few words from Alison Currell, Senior Aspire Service Delivery Manager. She extended a special welcome to the representatives of Aspire’s charity partner, Caxton Youth: Rose

Swainston (CEO), Eliane Edmond (Head of Programmes) and Paige Kaye (Fundraising Manager). The Aspire community has raised over £38,000 to date for Caxton Youth, and there are exciting plans for upgrading the facilities at Midge Island, the charity’s outdoor base on the River Wey in Surrey. Alison went on to reflect on a hugely successful year for Aspire, which had not only seen the first ever Aspire Golf Day but also the annual Aspire Quiz, the Yorkshire Three Peaks challenge and Landsec | Aspire winning the Collaboration category at the IWFM Awards. The annual Aspire awards recognise nominees and winners in seven categories: Bold, Driven, Inclusive, United, Newcomer and Limelight, plus a special Chairman’s Award. While the nominations are selected by Landsec in collaboration with Service Partners, the winners are chosen by the Aspire community and this year you voted an incredible 512 times for your favourites – thank you!

The Bold award was presented by Brad Cordrey, Workplace Manager, and went to Federico Sommariva of Rapport. Federico was nominated for noticing and investigating a potential security risk to his building, and then notifying the Workplace Manager. Runner-up for the Bold award was Krzysztof Marchajski of Bidvest Noonan. Martyn Pharo, Workplace Manager, presented the Driven award to Scheila Costa of Principle Cleaning. Scheila had been nominated for noticing a water leak at Dashwood, cleaning it up and undertaking further inspections throughout the day. The runner-up in this category was Valeria Spano of Rapport. Gintare Pinkeviciene, Alcantra De Costa and Francisca Jaramillio of NJC scooped the Inclusive award, which was presented by Glenn Darlison, Senior Aspire Service Delivery Manager. The trio were nominated for helping a customer tackle a major leak and staying beyond their contracted hours to finish the job. Runners-up for the Inclusive award were Alwyn Semper and Lawrence Merry of Bidvest Noonan. The United award – presented by Andrew Ballard, Workplace Engineering Manager – went to Nageen Jalal of Bidvest Noonan. Nageen’s nomination was for the amazing support he showed when a marketing suite was opened at 24 Southwark Bridge Road to showcase The Forge. Paul Sturt of Jaguar was the runner-up in the United category. The Newcomer award is a new accolade to recognise someone who has been part of the Aspire family for less than a year but has demonstrated that they embrace the Aspire values and have gone above and beyond expectations. Presented by Jordon Joseph, Workplace Manager, the award went to Jiban Rai of Bidvest Noonan. Jiban was nominated for showing real aptitude for his role

at Nova and achieving progression at unprecedented speed. As Jiban was unable to be present at the ceremony, the trophy was collected on his behalf by Lawrence Merry. Runner-up for the Newcomer award was Riccardo Sessa of Rapport. The award in the Limelight category was presented by Jenny Harper, Workplace Manager, and the winner was Toma Galabov of Rapport. Toma’s nomination was for the immense passion, commitment and pride in his work he has shown since day one, as well as for his role in the successful mobilisation of The Forge. Runner-up for the Limelight award was Artemis Ayiotis of Bidvest Noonan. Finally, the Chairman’s Award – the winner of which is selected by the Aspire Steering Committee – was presented by Mike Pearce, Director of Security & Resilience for Landsec. The recipient of this prestigious award was Tofik Mussa of Bidvest Noonan, who showed quick thinking and outstanding dedication in dealing with a situation involving an intruder at Royal Mews. Tofik had alerted the control room and the police and stayed at the scene to help police officers identify the offender. Rounding off the event, David Wickens (Head of Workplace Operations & Chair of Landsec | Aspire) thanked Alison Currell for hosting the awards and Kelly Barlow, Assistant Workplace Manager, for organising the event. He also paid tribute to the almost 600-strong Aspire community for their collaboration and commitment during 2023, with particular thanks going to Alison Currell and Shannon Berry (Head of Sustainability for Principle) for making the winning presentation to the judging panel of the IWFM Awards. David ended by wishing everyone a ‘Merry Christmas’ and encouraging guests to enjoy the party following the ceremony. Well done to all this year’s nominees and award winners!

Held immediately after the Staff Recognition Awards, the legendary Aspire Christmas Party took place at 10 Union Street, near London Bridge, on Friday 1 December. Those arriving promptly at the venue enjoyed watching a caricaturist and magician at work, entertaining guests in the reception area with their artistic talent and sleight of hand respectively. All guests enjoyed complimentary drinks throughout the evening, as well as platters of food.
There were members of Landsec | Aspire from every service stream across the London Portfolio to celebrate the festive season and PartyAsOne. Many took to the dance floor, strutting their stuff to the music of a great live band or to some classic tunes belted out by the DJ. As ever, the Aspire family proved they can party hard as well as work hard!

A big ‘well done’ to everyone who rose to the challenge of bringing seasonal cheer to our properties from the City to the West End for our annual Christmas Jumper Day on Thursday 7 December.
Recognising that Baby, It’s Cold Outside, you donned your festive knitwear and got ready to Step Into Christmas. The sensational selection of seasonal sweaters featured all the favourite Yuletide characters – Frosty the Snowman, Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer and, of course, Little Saint Nick.
Thank you all for bringing smiles to the faces of our customers, colleagues and guests. Whether you’re staying put or Driving Home for Christmas, we hope you’ll Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas.
