Phone-circle – How should I say it?

How do we make people understand the idea and usefulness of the phone-circle?

Olli and Johanna on the way to a talkoot event.

We'll ask for help from Know-howLet's make a video together, it talkoot. makes the best influence.

Do we have to Err... I have Hey, I'm not edit it as well? never an actor! filmed before.

Who will make the scenario?

They told me no, but I'm sure they can and have the guts.

Do you think anyone has experience on filming or editing?

I can do the filming.

We'll start with the flip-board and then use the projector.

Phone-circle instructors having an opening meeting. We'll make Tuula sit alone and cry.

Where do we get laughter?

Filming starts. Sirpa takes the camera and Tuula plays the lonely role.

Writing the scenario with yellow notes, laptop computer and video projector.

Put some feeling in it!

Eating and planning. This is starting to work out smoothly now!

Nice pics!

I never thought I'd be acting...

Watching the filmed material together. Editing starts. Everybody laughs. Let's dub it over!

Ha! Let's change that scene! Why don't we sing a song together at the ending?

Watching the finished video together.

We did it!

We did it!

We did it!

Next time we will have to let everybody try filming! We'll distribute turns in the beginning.

What a fine talkoot event it was again, wonderful people! I'm really looking forward to the next one.

Future-talkoot

Interesting – what the doctors think about the future.

The talkoot event starts with an introduction: thinking traps as obstacles to unprejudiced futures thinking.

Local food is a desired future in food industry!

A group of doctors looking for jobs are gathered at a seminar; what will the future bring for them? I wonder what will happen next year.

Let's be systematic Will the employment with this. situation be even worse?

Let's start our orientation towards the near future concretely: What shall we eat today... and continue with a longer term examination, followed by the futures of the world: possible emerging phenomena in different fields and areas. The matrix is nearly done! It I think nuclear energy is also available is undesirable. online.

Cooking, eating, with a discussion on what it would be like to live in that utopia. What about dystopia then?

A good sleep after a nice day, dreaming about the future. At breakfast, people form groups, write a scenario with yellow notes and make three audio plays on everyday life; desired, non-desired and probable futures from the points of view of different characters. I'm a dyslexic, sociable cash keeper.

I'm a cheeky, absolutist traffic warden.

Making the audio play helped in understanding future scenarios.

Talkoot crew, please, the table is set! The delicacies are getting cold!

...like being in someone else's boots.

The final session: eating pizza, listening to the plays, discussing.

We did a pretty good job! So nice to have invented those characters! They were helpful in externalising everyday life.

Olli and Johanna look back at the just finished talkoot event.

Publication for a group of painters

How nice it would be to get our works published together!

Indeed. How How about a do we make talkoot event with that happen? delicious food?

Olli and Johanna arrive on time at the talkoot site. I'll get the projectors ready. Yep, I'll set the table for morning coffee. Sitting down, having coffee and producing ideas for the contents using yellow notes. Transfer images from the stick and add captions.

Everyone is working, admiring the pictures, writing. A few people start cooking.

Over a delicious meal, discussion on what has been accomplished, what to do next.

That was a good start! Next time, let's take more pictures and text along.

Hi, I'm Veera. I can't use information technology, but I could cook for instance, in order to be useful!

A new talkoot participant arrives.

Hey, my painting, so nice!

Wow, we are well advanced. Next time, a finishing touch and we're ready to print.

The new talkoot participant gets excited and calls her husband for more pictures. We are ready to show our publication to the teacher and other painters!

Some of the pictures are displayed on the wall. Finally, Olli and Johanna clean up and hit the road. I wish we had more projectors! This surely is rewarding!

People head home with their finished papers. Veera dawdles for a while and says: I'll get myself a computer, this is too much fun.

For sure... Next time we'll start earlier with page layout and use several computers.

Anja makes another phone call to ask about Knowhow-talkoot. Hi, this is Anja, do you have a pen and paper? The event will take place on...

The secretary association gets a website

...we need our own web pages! Have you made plans for lunch?

The secretaries arrange their yellow notes. Meanwhile, Johanna makes sure the local shop has got the food requested by the secretaries.

Sitting in small groups with a laptop and a projector, making the pages.

Johanna and Olli arrive. This is all just time-consuming hobbying, we're here to make web pages!

I've got pictures on a memory stick.

Is this for current affairs or administration?

I brought a few audio files that might be useful.

Happily over lunch.

I thought this would be more difficult.

Hey, we're pros!

We did a good job, right?

Let's book another talkoot event!

What a nice and productive talkoot session! Perhaps we should start slowly then?

Finally, a proud look at the pages (https://sites.google.com/site/tampereenjaosto/).

The pondering on food was worth it! This is good...

This was fun, I want to learn more. We'll deepen the pages!

Talking about food can be confusing at first.

Next time we should give a better introduction on the importance open decision-making in setting the mood and helping people connect. Johanna and Olli review the event on their way home. Olli dictates notes on his phone.

Know-how-talkoot Publication-talkoot

A publication is planned, and page layout is made with free software,Scribus, which makes it possible to edit the publication on the community's own computers in the future.

Internet-talkoot

A website is made on Google sites, a free platform that can be used on different computers and browsers; all talkoot participants can later update and maintain the site.

Social media talkoot

The page is made on a free platform, Facebook or Bambuser, that can later be accessed with different computers and browsers. The participants of the talkoot event can later update the page according to their needs.

Video-talkoot

The video is planned, possibly filmed and finally edited during the event, using software that can be downloaded or is already installed on the computers; this makes it possible to edit the production later, or to make a new video using the community's computers.

Audio-talkoot

An audio production is planned, recorded and finally edited with Audacity, a free sound editor. This makes it possible for the community to edit the production or to produce a new one with the community's own computers.

Future-talkoot

Future talkoot inspires futures thinking among the participants. A futures matrix is produced with the assistance of pilots. Desired, non-desired and probable future scenarios are based on the matrix. These scenarios are then brought to everyday life by food preparation and communication productions. The productions are made with discipline, imagining an everyday drama.

What is the purpose of Know-how-talkoot events?

A paper, web pages, a video, an audio production, social media, plans for the future and food – according to the community's preferences – or all of these together.

Who is Know-how-talkoot organised for?

All communities, companies, schools or groups of friends.

How do we operate?

According to the talkoot principle (unpaid voluntary action): equally, with an open mind, supporting each other, with a fun and creative touch. We call ourselves talkoo pilots. Instead of training and consulting, we encourage independent action as we participate and give example. Our aim is to improve communication skills and create practices of communication for the communities. Know-how-talkoot has developed communication practices of NGOs, companies, associations and groups of friends. Know-how-talkoot is based on the concept of Communication camps, organised by Viestintäkasvatuksen seura (association for communication education) since 1987 and the Tietotaitotalkoot ESF project of the The Finnish Information Processing Association, FIPA.
