FEBRUARY 2014 7

We are proud to announce that three new prefects were inducted into our existing prefect body.

Front row: Antonio Veldsman, Chené Wilson and Mihlali Solombela. We were also proud to announce our Head Prefects for 2014. Back row: Reid Donson (Deputy Head Prefect) and Christine Hannekom (Head Prefect).

The grade 6 classes started off their year with a Fun Day. Each class was split into 2 groups. One group was out on the field, making up a war cry for the class. Here we have the other groups designing their own coat of arms for the class. To end off the day, a fun time was had at the swimming pool where everyone got to know each other.

Kyle Holder and Joshua da Sousa were chosen to serve EPS as sound and lighting monitors for 2014. These young gentlemen will be responsible for all the school’s sound and lighting needs this year. We thank them in advance for their dedication.

Over 2 600 contestants entered the Faber-Castell Dream Bicycle Drawing Contest. The winner, Skye Petzer, (Grade Seven) seen here with Mr van Vuuren (headmaster), was presented her Dream Bicycle and some ‘goodies’ by a representative from Faber-Castell .

The following Grade 4 pupils have had the honour of being selected for the ESquared (Enrichment and Extension Club). Mrs Bouwer is looking forward to working with these bright young minds.

Every week 3 classes collect sandwiches for children who are less fortunate than us as part of our on-going OUTREACH programme. We are overwhelmed by the generous response from our learners. This week the Gr 3’s impressed us! Thank you – there are many children who have a full tummy at school thanks to you.

EDGEMEAD TEACHERS GET ACTIVE!

Back row: Ethan Bainbridge, Ethan Laubscher, Mrs Lauren Bouwer, Joshua Pretorius, Tamara le Grange. Front row: Jordyn Fester, Tavia Michell, Akihdna Mahabeer, Jake Moelans, Joshua Grace, Femke Mory, Michael Steyn.

Emma Smith (centre) has been an official Chaeli campaigner for two years. She is running ‘an order and collection project’ at EPS to raise money for buggies for disabled beneficiaries of the Chaeli Foundation who would like to participate in the Argus Cycle Tour on 9 March 2014. Dominique Smith (left) and Skye Feltman (right) have been assisting Emma in reaching her target.

Ms Milford, Ms Carlson, Mr Hopgood and Mrs McLeod decided to lead by example and challenge learners and teachers at EPS to be more physically active this year. They participated in the third race of the Spur Summer Trail Series at Lebanon Forest in Grabouw on January 26 and look forward to more runners joining them in February.
