The World Series is scheduled to begin on October 23. Tidbits takes you out to the ball game with the history of baseball’s Fall Classic, and says, “Play ball!” ● Although Major League Baseball has had some sort of post-season championship series since about 1884, the World Series as we know it began in 1903 when the Pittsburgh Pirates competed against the Boston Americans.

Boston took the Series in what was then a ninegame series, five games to three. ● Every now and then, all the World Series games were played in one city, for example, the 1906 Series which was played by the Chicago Cubs and the Chicago White Sox. But it’s pretty rare for all the games to be played in the same ballpark. In 1921 and 1922, both New York teams, the Yankees and the Giants used the Polo Grounds as their park, where all the games were played. In 1944, the St. Louis Cardinals and the St. Louis Browns battled it out in one stadium, Sportsman’s Park. ● The World Series ring is a familiar award given to players as a token of their victory.

However, up until 1922, players received pocket watches or medallions as a memento. The 1922 New York Giants were the first team to receive rings as a keepsake from the championship. turn the page for more

THE WORLD SERIES (continued) ● The winning pitchers in all four games of the 1934 series were brothers. Dizzy Dean and Paul Dean of the St. Louis Cardinals each won two games in the classic against the Detroit Tigers. ● In the 1960 World Series, the Pittsburgh Pirates were pitted against the New York Yankees.

The Yankees scored 55 runs to the Pirates’ 27, yet the Pirates won the Series. The Yankees were victors in three games 16-3, 10-0, and 12-0. The Pirates won four games 6-4, 3-2, 5-2, and 10-9.

Game Four was won on a 9th-inning homer. ● In 1996, the Atlanta Braves’ Andruw Jones became the youngest player ever to hit a home run in the World Series. The 19-year-old was also only the second player ever to hit two home runs in his first two at-bats in a World Series. Unfortunately, the Braves still lost that Series to the Yankees. ● Even though Major League Baseball started holding night games in 1935, the World Series was a daytime event for decades. In 1949, one of the Series games had to be finished under lights for the first time, but the first actual scheduled night game was in 1971 in Pittsburgh’s Three Rivers Stadium. From that point on, games were frequently scheduled at night, in order to capitalize on larger television audiences. There hasn’t been a daytime World Series game since 1987, when Game Six was played indoors at Minneapolis’ Metrodome. ● The Yankees have played in more Series than any other team, 40 appearances with 27 wins. Their first win was in 1923, the year that the original Yankee Stadium opened. In second place, the St. Louis Cardinals are way behind with just 10 titles. The player with the most World Series titles is Yankees catcher Yogi Berra, who played from the late 1940s until the early 1960s.

Yogi has also played the most Series games, a record 75.

Dog Balks at Eyedrops DEAR PAW'S CORNER: My dog is being prepared for corrective eye surgery, and has to be given special drops. However, "Maisie" won't hold still for me at all, and I can't get the drops in. What can I do? Ð Lauren, via e-mail DEAR LAUREN: Pets don't like being given medicine, and they really, really don't like getting eyedrops.

Approaching Maisie head-on or holding the eye dropper directly over her eye will freak her out. Instead, keep her comfortable and unaware of the dropper until the very last moment. Here's how: --Approach her from the side, and pet her into a sitting position, giving lots of praise. If she is a large dog, have a friend cradle her from the side or stand behind her, placing your legs behind her shoulders so she can't back up. If she is small, cradle her until she is calm.

--Cup one hand below Maisie's chin so you can gently lift her head upward.

--Quickly wipe the eyes clean using a damp cotton ball or cloth.

--Unscrew the eyedropper top or have a friend do it where Maisie can't see.

--Lift her head and gently tug down her lower eyelid.

--Bring the eye dropper up and hold it at an angle to the eye so it's close, but not directly in her view.

--Gently tug her upper eyelid upward and quickly put a drop into the eye, being careful not to touch the eye.

--Repeat with the other eye.

--Wipe away excess medicine with a clean cotton ball.

--Give Maisie a treat right away -- she deserves it!

You’ll need: 1/2 pound ground beef 3/4 cup each chopped onion, carrots, and celery 1 teaspoon dried basil 4 tablespoons butter, divided 3 cups chicken broth 4 cups diced, peeled potatoes 1/4 cup flour 2 cups Velveeta, cubed 1 & 1/2 cups milk 3/4 teaspoon salt, 1/4 teaspoon pepper 1/4 cup Sour Cream Directions: In a 3 quart saucepan, brown beef, drain and set aside. In the same saucepan, saute the onion, carrots, celery, & basil in 1 tablespoon butter until vegetables are tender, about 10 minutes. Add the broth, potatoes and beef; bring to a boil. Reduce heat; cover and simmer for 10-12 minutes or until potatoes are tender. Meanwhile, in a small skillet, melt the remaining butter. Add flour, cook and stir for 3-5 minutes or until bubbly. Add to soup; bring to a boil. Cook and stir for 2 minutes.

Reduce heat, to low. Stir in the cheese, milk, salt and pepper; cook and stir until cheese melts. Remove from the heat; blend in sour cream. Yield: 8 servings (2 1/4 quarts) When you do decide to dine out, gather around our table at The Goose. Remember, every Friday is Family Game Night, each week we’re serving up a different wild game! THE WORLD SERIES (continued) ● Several teams have experienced a long old dry spell without a World Series win. The Boston Red Sox were winners in 1918 over the Chicago Cubs, but waited 86 years for their next title in 2004 over the St. Louis Cardinals.

The 1917 Chicago White Sox triumphed over the New York Giants, but couldn’t do it again for another 88 years, when they were the 2005 champions. The Chicago Cubs are still waiting!

They were the 1907 and 1908 champs, but haven’t managed to collect a World Series title since. (The Cubs did make it to the Series in 1945, but were defeated.) They had their early wins in Weeghman Park before moving into Wrigley Field in 1914. Fans are optimistic that the upcoming $500 million upgrade to Wrigley will produce the elusive title. ● Some teams have never won the World Series – the San Diego Padres, Tampa Bay Rays, Houston Astros, Milwaukee Brewers, Colorado Rockies, and Texas Rangers (although the Rangers did compete in both 2010 and 2011).

There are two teams who haven’t yet managed to make it to the Series, the Washington Nationals (formerly the Montreal Expos) and the Seattle Mariners. ● The only non-American team to take the Series has been Canada’s Toronto Blue Jays, who defeated the Atlanta Braves in 1992 and the Philadelphia Phillies in 1993. The Jays are also the only Canadian team to host a World Series game.

¥ On Oct. 26, 1825, the Erie Canal opens, connecting the Great Lakes with the Atlantic Ocean via the Hudson River. Built in only two years, 83 canal locks accommodated the 500-foot rise in elevation. The canal was 363 miles long, 40 feet wide and 4 feet deep. In nine years, tolls had paid back the cost of construction. ¥ On Oct. 25, 1861, the keel of the Union ironclad Monitor is laid at Greenpoint, N.Y. The vessel -- 172 feet long and 41 feet wide -- had a low profile, rising only 18 inches above the water. The ship had a draft of less than 11 feet so it could operate in the shallow harbors and rivers of the South. ¥ On Oct. 27, 1904, the New York City subway opens.

The first line, operated by the Interborough Rapid Transit Company (IRT), traveled 9.1 miles through 28 stations. That evening, the subway opened to the general public, and more than 100,000 people paid a nickel each to take their first ride under Manhattan. ¥ On Oct. 24, 1945, the United Nations Charter, which was adopted and signed on June 26, takes effect and is ready to be enforced. Representatives of 50 nations attended the first conference. ¥ On Oct. 21, 1959, on New York City's Fifth Avenue, thousands of people line up outside a bizarrely shaped white concrete building that resembled a giant upside-down cupcake. It was opening day at the new Guggenheim Museum, home to one of the world's top collections of contemporary art. ¥ On Oct. 22, 1962, President John F. Kennedy announces that the Soviet Union has placed nuclear weapons in Cuba and that the United States will establish military blockade to prevent any other offensive weapons from entering the island nation just 90 miles from the Florida Keys. ¥ On Oct. 23, 1989, a series of explosions sparked by an ethylene gas leak at a plastics factory in Pasadena, Texas, kills 23 people. Approximately 85,000 pounds of highly flammable ethylene-isobutane gas were released into the plant. Within two minutes, the large gas cloud ignited with the power of two-and-a-half tons of dynamite.

¥ Presidential security was not as always as formidable as it is today. In 1913, former President Theodore Roosevelt was walking down a Milwaukee street, heading to a speech he was scheduled to give. A man named John Schrank pulled out a gun and shot toward Roosevelt, who staggered but did not fall. There was no blood evident, and Roosevelt, who was campaigning for a second term, insisted on delivering his speech.

When he pulled from a coat pocket the 100 pages on which his speech was written, he saw a bullet hole through the sheets of paper. Still determined to carry on, he gave the speech before going to the hospital, where it was discovered that the bullet had penetrated 4 inches into his body. After the perpetrator was arrested, it became evident that Shcrank was insane; he claimed that President William McKinley had revealed to him in a dream that Roosevelt was responsible for McKinley's assassination. Shrank spent the next 32 years in an insane asylum.

The two Bay Area teams, the San Francisco Giants and the Oakland A’s were warming up when a 7.1 magnitude earthquake shook the area. Due to the many cameras lined up for the game, the Loma Prieta earthquake became the first major U.S. earthquake ever to be broadcast by live television. ● The World Series has been played every year since 1903, with two exceptions. In 1904, John T. Brush, president of the National League’s New York Giants, refused to allow his team to play against the Boston Americans because he considered the American League team too inferior. World War I, World War II, the 1918-1919 influenza pandemic, and the Great Depression couldn’t keep the Series down. But the baseball strike of 1994 could. The 232-day strike from August, 1994 until April, 1995, led to the cancellation of nearly 950 games, including the entire 1994 post-season and World Series.

Unfortunately for the Montreal Expos, it had been the best season of their history, and in fact, the best record in baseball, 74-40. They were never to get close to the Series again. ● Scandal struck the World Series in 1919 when eight members of the Chicago White Sox were banned from professional baseball for conspiring to fix the series and profit from it by intentionally allowing the opposing team, the Cincinnati Reds, to win. In what became known as the Black Sox incident, the first baseman, who had longstanding ties to underworld kingpins, agreed to accept $100,000 to throw the Series, and set about convincing seven of his team members, including “Shoeless” Joe Jackson.

Speculation was that players were unhappy with the stinginess of team owner Charles Comiskey who had supposedly treated the members unfairly and grossly underpaid them.

FAMOUS WOMEN OF THE WORLD: ELLA FITZGERALD It didn’t look like Ella Jane Fitzgerald’s life was going to amount to much, but a lucky break led to her career as “The First Lady of Song.” Follow along this popular jazz singer’s journey to fame. ● Ella’s parents separated shortly after her birth, and she and her mother moved to Yonkers, New York. When Ella was six, she was joined by a new sister, Frances. Her stepfather was a ditchdigger and part-time chauffeur, while her mother worked at a laundromat. As a child, Ella worked as a runner for local gamblers, picking up bets and distributing winnings. ● When Ella was 15, her mother died from injuries received in a car accident, and Ella went to live with her aunt. Shortly afterward, her stepfather died from a heart attack, and Frances joined Ella and their aunt. ● Life was not happy for Ella, and her schoolwork suffered significantly. She was frequently truant, and before long was in trouble with the law and was sent to reform school, where she was beaten by the personnel there.

Ella managed to escape, but was without money and alone in the midst of the Great Depression. ● Each week, Harlem’s Apollo Theater hosted an amateur talent night, and in 1934, when Ella was 17, her name was selected in the drawing to compete. She was planning a dance number, but when the preceding act featured some rather exceptional dancers, Ella made a last-minute decision to sing, one that would change her life.

HALLOWEEN (continued) ● Halloween’s origins are Celtic during pre-Christian times. An ancient harvest festival known as Samhain marked the end of summer.

The Celts believed that the spirits of the dead returned to visit the land of the living to damage crops and play tricks on the living on October 31, the first night of Samhain. The Celts wore animal skins at their bonfire festivities, and often sacrificed crops or animals to the spirits. Some donned ghost costumes, hoping to confuse the spirits or avoid being recognized by evil ones.

On All Saints’ Day, early Christians dressed as saints or angels. The holy days blended together to give us our tradition of dressing up. When a large number of Irish immigrated to North America in the late 1800s, they brought their Celtic rituals with them. ● America’s early celebrations were more of an autumn harvest festival with corn-popping parties, taffy pulls, and hayrides. The custom of trick-or-treating evolved from Medieval England, when poor people would beg for sweet breads in exchange for praying for families’ souls, a practice called “souling.” In North America, this became trick-or-treating, although this custom didn’t become popular until the 1930s. ● Jack-o-lanterns were an Irish tradition, and were originally made from hollowed-out turnips. Their practice was to carve faces of the dead onto the vegetable and place a lighted candle inside to make it glow. ● The first record of carving pumpkins is from 1837. The word “pumpkin” has its origins in the Greek language, pepon, which translated “large melon.” The French modified this to pompon, and the British changed it to pumpion.

American colonists adjusted it to “pumpkin.”

One of America’s oldest known crops, the pumpkin originated in Mexico. It’s one of the most popular crops in the U.S., with annual production of about 1.5 billion lbs. (680 million kg). Illinois grows about 95% of the nation’s crop. Antarctica is the only continent that does not grow them. ● Small varieties of pumpkins weighing 2 to 5 lbs. (.9 to 2.3 kg) include the Sugar, Winter Luxury, and Spooktacular. Intermediate types will weigh 8 to 15 lbs. (3.6 to 6.8 kg) with names such as Autumn Gold, Harvest Moon, and Funny Face. Weighing 15 to 40 lbs. (6.8 to 18.1 kg) are the Ghost Rider, Hercules, Jumpin’ Jack, and Big Tom. All are ready for harvest in about 110 days. The record for the world’s largest pumpkin belongs to a Rhode Island man named Ron Wallace, who hauled his massive 2,009-lb. (911 kg) pumpkin to the Topsfield, Massachusetts fair in September of 2012. ● Halloween isn’t a fun time for everyone.

Punctured Pipe Needs Quick Fix Q: While running an Ethernet cable along a baseboard, I drilled into the drywall and right through a small copper water pipe. A small spray of water actually shot out of the drilled hole! I cut through the drywall with my pocketknife to see what had happened, then plugged the hole with my finger until my wife shut off the water. What's the best way to fix the pipe? -- Bill in Providence, R.I. A: Some do-it-yourselfers may suggest that you just slap a quick patching compound over the hole, let it set and leave it. But if you don't want to have to come back in a few months and redo the patch (and likely replace the drywall again), consider replacing the damaged section of pipe completely.

For this column, I'll describe using a compression fitting to repair the pipe. A traditional copper coupling requiring soldering is another good way to accomplish this, and I'm only leaving it out for space reasons.

Purchase a compression fitting repair kit at the homeimprovement store. You'll also need a pipe cutter and deburring tool, a hacksaw and miter box (as a backup), emery cloth, fine-grit sandpaper, tape measure and marking pencil.

To fix the drywall/wallboard you'll need a piece of replacement drywall, one or two pieces of thin plywood, wood screws, drywall tape, putty and a putty knife, as well as matching wall paint.

Make sure the water is off and completely drain faucets near and below the damaged pipe. Using a box cutter or drywall knife, cut away the damaged drywall with a little extra to spare, creating a square or rectangular hole.

To place the compression fitting, follow the cut length requirements in the repair instructions. Measure the damaged pipe, then divide the measurement in half.

Align the half-measurement on one side of the puncture and mark the cut point on that side, then repeat on the other side. (So the puncture sits in between the cut marks.)

Cut the damaged segment of pipe away using the pipe cutter. If the pipe is up against the wall, you may need to use a hacksaw instead, using a miter box to keep the cut perfectly straight. (A straight cut is critical to fitting the repair coupling snugly.)

Wrap emery cloth around one side of the cut pipe and twist five times or so until the pipe is shiny. Then clean the inside of the pipe with the deburring tool. Repeat on the other side of the cut pipe.

A marking gauge should be part of the repair kit. Use it now by sliding over one end of the cut pipe to mark the point at which the fitting should be. Repeat on the other side. Then, slide the slip end of the compression fitting over one pipe until it stops. On the other side, attach the disconnect clip to the fitting, and slide clip and fitting over the other cut pipe until it reaches the final mark that you made with the gauge.

Test the fitting by slowly turning on water to the pipe.

Patch the drywall by cutting a piece of wallboard to match the cut-out area. Attach a strip (or two if needed) of plywood behind the existing drywall with wood screws to create a base to attach the patch. Screw the patch to the plywood. Mask the cut lines with mesh drywall tape and smooth on putty; let dry 24-48 hours before painting.

HOME TIP: When turning water on after a shutoff, turn on all the faucets along the line to clear out air bubbles.

High Blood Pressure Risk and Medication

DEAR DR. DONOHUE: I have corrected my high blood pressure using medication, exercise and diet.

My blood pressure is now between 105/65 and 110/70.

I started medication when I had consistent readings in the high 130s and low 140s for systolic and 85 to 90 for diastolic. When considering all the warnings and risk factors for people with high blood pressure, do I fit into that category? Or, can I safely assume I no longer have high blood pressure? -- D.R. ANSWER: Normal blood pressure is now defined as systolic (the top number) of less than 120 AND diastolic of less than 80. High blood pressure is systolic over 140 OR diastolic over 90. Any levels in between are now labeled "prehypertension," indicating that these often go up over time. High blood pressure puts a person at higher risk for heart disease and stroke.

In your situation, you said it exactly right. You have "corrected" your high blood pressure. If you were to stop your medicine, stop exercising and no longer be careful with your diet, we would expect your blood pressure to go back up, so it's important to keep doing all those things -- and you are to be congratulated on outstanding control.

Medical authorities are still divided about whether treated high blood pressure gives the same low risk for heart disease and stroke as natural low blood pressure, but it is my opinion that after years of careful blood pressure control, the risks of heart disease lower to the

same level as if you had never had high blood pressure, especially if, like you, you were treated early.

High blood pressure is one risk factor for stroke.

DEAR DR. DONOHUE: I have a serious sweet tooth, and I'm concerned about getting diabetes. Mostly, I crave candy. My last fasting blood sugar reading was 109. I am an 84-year-old woman weighing 134 pounds. Do I have to worry? -ANSWER: A fasting blood sugar level of 109 is not normal, but is not high enough to say that you have diabetes (the number for that diagnosis is 126 or higher).

It does mean you need to follow up with your doctor.

DEAR DR. DONOHUE: I had an exploratory laparotomy with a right hemicolectomy. The postoperative diagnosis was perforated appendix and hemicolectomy specimen. What is this? -- L.J. ANSWER: Your appendix, the narrow wormlike tube that dangles from the base of the right side of the colon, became inflamed. Its slender central cavity was blocked, and bacteria grew in the blocked cavity. That caused swelling. The appendix finally burst and spilled bacteria into the abdominal cavity. Treatment included surgical removal of the appendix and the right side of the colon. You are proof that appendicitis (inflammation of the appendix) is not always a routine matter.

Container Gardens Offer Indoor Fun I recently watched the last inning of a tense major-league playoff game. A great hitter was up to bat, a young pitcher was on the mound and thousands of fans cheered for the pitcher to win the duel. That's when a TV commentator broke through the tension and talked about how this might be a good time for the eager pitcher to pause and take a very deep breath.

He might have done just that, because he proceeded to strike the batter out. If taking a moment to "breathe" can win a game for a young pitcher in front of the home crowd, think what it could do for harried parents. Yet, we all know it's not easy to stop and a take a beat as we huff and puff through our busy days.

Busy mom of three, antiques dealer and all-around creative woman Becky Lee would agree. That's why she painted "BREATHE" in big letters on the outside of her favorite toolbox turned succulent container garden, kept on her back porch.

"Whenever I step outside and see the word, I stop in my tracks no matter where I'm headed, and let out a deep 'ahh.'

Taking that time helps me be present, calmer and happier as a mom. It's a gift to my kids when I slow down and 'breathe,'" she said.

Becky paints and pots succulent container gardens with her kids to enjoy in their home and to give to others. Simple words such as "listen," "respect," "patience," "share" or "learn" painted on the outside are inspiration for families to grow and change along with the plants.

Here's how: 1. Use acrylic paints to paint an inspiring word or positive character trait in large letters on the outside of a flowerpot or favorite container with holes in the bottom. (An adult should drill the holes.)

Remember going out to the car and cranking the motor, letting it run in the driveway for 10 or more minutes to "warm up" the engine? It's not necessary in today's cars. The extra idle time doesn't do anything for your car. But do take it easy driving for the first 10 minutes.

1 (4-serving) package sugar-free instant butterscotch pudding mix 2/3 cup nonfat dry milk powder 1 (8-ounce) can crushed pineapple, packed in fruit juice, undrained 1/4 cup water 3/4 cup reduced-calorie whipped topping 1 teaspoon coconut extract 2 cups cored, unpeeled and diced Red Delicious apples 2 tablespoons flaked coconut 1. In a large bowl, combine dry pudding mix, dry milk powder, undrained pineapple and water. Mix well using a wire whisk.

2. Blend in whipped topping and coconut extract. Add apples. Mix well to combine. Fold in coconut.

3. Refrigerate for at least 15 minutes. Makes 6 (1/2 cup) servings. ● Each serving equals: 108 calories, 0g fat, 3g protein, 24g carb., 277mg sodium, 1g fiber; Diabetic Exchanges: 1 Fruit, 1/2 Starch.

Operation S.A.V.E. is a Department of Veterans Affairs training program designed to prevent suicide in veterans. While the program is geared for suicideprevention coordinators, there are points that can be helpful for family and friends of veterans who might be at risk.

The initials themselves outline parts of the program: Signs of suicide Asking about suicide Validating feelings Encouraging help and expediting treatment.

Those who work or live with veterans can help stop many veteran suicides. Here are some must-have resources: --Go online and study the program that is given to VA suicide prevention coordinators. Google this title: Operation S.A.V.E.: VA Suicide Prevention Gatekeeper Training.

--Google "veteran suicide" and look for the .pdf entitled "Department of Veterans Affairs Operation SAVE Suicide Prevention." As you scroll, don't miss the Myths and Misinformation section, as well as the S.A.V.E steps.

--Go to www.mentalhealth.va.gov and click Suicide Prevention on the left side. You'll find a full menu of choices, including warning signs and resources.

The official guesstimate of the number of veteran suicides is 22 per day. As more people and groups read the "Suicide Data Report 2012" they eventually come to the conclusion that the number is low, for many reasons: Not all states participated in the survey and didn't provide numbers. Information in some cases was provided by funeral homes (who got their information from family members) and not by the VA. Information from states with large veteran populations wasn't used. Information wasn't current, and so on. In other words, the problem might be even worse.

You’re A Creative Whiz!

Artists and musicians are not the sole proprietors of creativity. Common folk like you and me are also able to solve problems, write music, create art, and come up with new ideas. Remember when you were a child and you could fly airplanes, drive trucks, dress like a princess, or travel around the world all within the confines of your own living room? What happened to those uninhibited creative forces? Where has the sense of adventure gone? Lost, most likely I suppose, to the urgency of the mundane – to the requirements of daily living.

Here are seven things you can do to reclaim some of that wonderful creativity: Listen to Great Music. Have you ever attended a performance of a great symphony orchestra? Great music inspires greatness to those who submit themselves to its promptings.

Look at Beautiful Things. Art also challenges our creative juices. I’ll never forget laying my eyes on Michelangelo’s magnificent Pieta in St. Peter’s Basilica in Rome. I get chills just writing about it and it has been well over 40 years since I was there. But you don’t have to go to Rome to enjoy the beauty of a tiny flower or the majesty of a sunset.

Travel. Over fifty years ago on our honeymoon in Wyoming my wife and I began wandering around on the side roads. We’ve never stopped. And our wanderings 1) Old 2) Moses 3) Ruth 4) Eyes 5) Blessings 6) Hearing

And once again, you don’t have to go around the world to see something different. Go this weekend to somewhere nearby but off your usual paths of travel and discover something unique. Golly, some people won’t even take a different route to work.

Read About the Greats. Great biographies inspire us to greatness. I’m just finishing a book on the life of the great adventurer and missionary Dr. David Livingstone.

It makes me wish I had done more wandering around Africa when I lived there.

Explore Your Dreams. Take a walk somewhere and let your mind dream a little … no, let it dream a lot! Pretend a bit, oh heck, go ahead and pretend a lot. Who knows what you may become if you give yourself a chance!

Befriend an Eccentric Person. To be eccentric means to be a little off-center. Eccentric people are interesting and stimulating, never boring. My wife and I befriended one of my most eccentric professors in graduate school and we all grew because of that relationship.

And last, Ask God a Big Question. He has all the answers to every inquiry and all the creativity in the universe. I am certain He would love to share some of His treasures with you. Just ask. After all, you are a very special person.
