臺中國際動畫影展今年已經邁入第三年，我們樂見有越來越多觀眾走進電影院，欣賞來自臺灣及世界各地的優秀動畫作品，作為「創意城市、生活首都」的理念實踐。臺中國際動畫影展不但是屬於動畫創作者一年一度的文化盛事，更為臺灣動畫發展打下重要基礎，藉由相關活動的舉辦，除了培養多元豐富的觀影品味外，也能夠透過觀摩提升產業、學術及市場的良性交流與合作。

感謝大家的支持，國內外動畫業界與民眾的熱烈迴響，臺中國際動畫影展已成為本市市民、國內動畫創作者年度期待的盛事。延續前兩屆的影展能量，本屆將徵件競賽的觸角拓展至全球，評審在 1849 件優秀作品中，精挑細選 60 組入圍作品。這些來自世界各國的創作，有些甚至是已在全球各大影展獲獎，除了展現出強大的創作能量，也提供給觀眾來自全球不同國家的在地觀點，想必今年影展將是精彩可期。

去年「財團法人臺中市影視發展基金會」正式揭牌成立後，便積極參與規劃及推動各項影視事務，除了引入類型多元的影展及持續舉辦主題放映外，也成立協拍中心來協助國內外優質影視作品拍攝，今年更由基金會首度接手辦理臺中國際動畫影展，在影展能量傳承的過程中，邁出國際徵件的第一步，藉此提升國際能見度。此外，我們更打造全臺首座公辦民營影視基地「中臺灣影視基地」，預計在明年營運，期待能結合現有資源和設施，打造臺灣電影文化產業重鎮，促進影視產業升級及在地影視產業人才深耕。隨著臺中市累積出越來越多的文化能量，我們也期待臺中國際動畫影展，除了能整合臺灣在地的動畫資源，促進與國際產業合作的交流功能，也希望國內創作者能藉由影展，接觸到更多國際創作。最重要的是，影展作為拓展民眾視野，理解多元文化的平臺，更需要觀眾的支持與鼓勵，在此除了誠摯歡迎世界各地動畫人蒞臨臺中外，也邀請市民朋友們走進戲院共同參與，給創作不懈的動畫工作者們熱情掌聲。

This year we celebrate the third edition of the Taichung International Animation Festival (TIAF), and delightfully we see more and more audiences join us in the theaters to watch these outstanding animated films from Taiwan and around the globe, and that has realized our aim to turn Taichung into "A Creative Lifestyle Capital". The TIAF is not only an annual cultural event for animators but also a crucial foundation for the development of Taiwanese animation. Through a wide range of events, we help the audiences develop a diverse taste in film art while encouraging the communication and partnerships between the industry, the academia and the market. In 2016, the Taichung Film Development Foundation was established and has been actively participating in promoting and planning for projects related to audio visual industry. The Foundation has introduced various film festivals and themed screenings, set up a filmmaking assistance center to facilitate domestic and overseas productions, and now it is running the TIAF for the first time. The TIAF called for international submissions, raising its profile on the international stage. Moreover, we have built the Central Taiwan Film Studios, a pioneer of its kind in Taiwan, which is scheduled to start operating in 2018. We hope to provide the Taiwanese filmmakers with a solid base and a wide range of resources and facilities in order to boost the film industry and encourage the local talents. With the cultural energy accumulated in Taichung, we expect the TIAF to integrate the local resources and to increase the interactions between the local and the international animation-making communities. Most importantly, the TIAF, a platform for broadening the viewers’ vision and cultivating diverse cultures, needs encouragement and support from the audiences. We give our warmest welcome to the filmmakers from all over the world as well as the local residents, who come to enjoy and celebrate the excellent films in the theaters.

入選國際觀摩的長片與短片同樣非常精彩，有來自美國、日本、法國、加拿大、芬蘭、德國、澳洲和印度等國的作品，主題從動物到家庭，形式上從水墨到實驗，產業面有焦點導演及亞洲創作動畫，相信不管是任何年齡層的觀眾，都能從影展中找到適合自己的電影。臺中國際動畫影展致力將各國動畫的多元觀點帶進臺灣，今年我們除了透過影片放映外，也將舉辦專題講座、戶外放映以及動畫工作坊等活動，希望讓觀眾享受這場充實豐富的文化饗宴。今年我們也加強了影展與臺中本地的連結，包括邀請深耕臺中的插畫家川貝母為影展設計生動活潑的主視覺，巧妙地將臺中特色動植物繪入其中；更促成朝陽科技大學視覺傳達設計系的同學一起參與影展片頭動畫的製作，搭起校園與產業界合作的橋樑。除此之外，我們努力在影展活動的各項環節都注入在地力量，相信每一位來參加的民眾一定都能感受得到我們的用心。臺中國際動畫影展雖然還年輕，但我們堅信臺中國際動畫影展是必須長久舉辦下去的藝文活動，讓文化在地方落地生根，積累孕育出更深厚強大的能量；這場一年一度的臺中電影盛會，因為有市民朋友的支持，才能日益茁壯，期待今年在戲院，能與大家再次見面！

The TIAF (Taichung International Animation Festival) has already become one of the most anticipated events for both the local residents and Taiwanese animators. We are truly grateful for everyone’s support as well as the enthusiastic feedback provided by the public and industry professionals in Taiwan and abroad. Continuing with the energy flow from two previous festivals, this year we opened up the competitions to filmmakers around the globe. The jury has carefully selected 60 films out of 1,849 submissions, including those that have already won awards at the major international film festivals. In addition to showcasing a strong creative energy, this year’s films provide local viewpoints from different countries in the world. In all likelihood, this year’s festival is going to be yet another exciting one. The remarkable World Panorama of short and feature films this year come from countries such as the United States, Japan, France, Canada, Finland, Germany, Australia, India and more. With themes ranging from animals to family, formats from Chinese ink wash painting to the experimental, and mainstream, from professional industry specialists to Asian animations, audiences of all ages are bound to find the right films for themselves. The TIAF strives to include the diverse viewpoints from animations worldwide. Along with all the animation showcases, this year we hold special lectures, outdoor screenings and experimental workshops, allowing our audiences to celebrate and enjoy this rich cultural feast. This year we strengthen our bond with Taichung by collaborating with the Taichung based illustrator Inca Pan, By incorporating the unique plants and animals of Taichung, he provides us with a colorful and lively visual theme for our festival. Moreover, students who major in Visual Communication Design at Chaoyang University of Technology join the production of the official festival trailer, serving as a connection between the academia and the industry. Although the TIAF may still be a young festival, we strongly believe that it is an artistic and cultural event that needs to be held in the years to come. By allowing culture to take root locally, stronger energy will be accumulated and born. This annual film festival thrives on the support of all Taichung residents. We look forward to seeing you all again in the theaters this year!

臺中市影視發展基金會 2 0 1 6 年在各方的期待下揭牌成立，目標是將臺中打造為「影視友善城市」，除了努力協助劇組在臺中尋景拍攝，也積極與臺灣各主題影展合作，為這城市注入一股新的電影活力，也提供市民更多元的觀影經驗。但我們並不以此自滿，因為我們有更重要的使命，就是為這充滿創意的城市打造兼容在地性與國際化的「臺中國際動畫影展」。

自己出身成長於臺中，四月中獲邀擔任本屆節目總監時，深感與有榮焉！更覺得未嘗不是將累積多年的專業知識發揮與分享的契機？

今年影展有許多「第一次」的創舉，競賽方面，我們首度辦理「國際徵件」，為臺灣與各國動畫導演創造交流平臺，也讓影迷飽覽全球最新的動畫創作。而推廣活動方面，我們不僅首次規劃「兒童評審團」，讓學齡兒童做主，選出最感動人心的作品，培養孩子對動畫的興趣，我們也首次舉辦「停格動畫工作坊」，讓各年齡層民眾都能動手創作、實際接觸媒材，並瞭解動畫製作、拓展藝術品味。節目方面，我們首次邀請臺藝大動畫系石昌杰教授擔綱節目總監，首度以「主題」策畫觀摩單元，讓民眾有觀摩單元的理解路徑，同時保有影片的詮釋空間。另外，我們也首度規劃「臺灣動畫搶先看」，邀請製作中的臺灣動畫電影做階段性發表，拉近創作者與觀眾的距離，打造臺灣動畫的發聲平臺。最後，也首次嘗試「產學合作」，媒合本覺創意與朝陽科技大學視傳系聯袂製作宣傳廣告，提供動畫學子與產業接軌的機會。我們所做的努力都是為了你們，不論你對動畫的認識深或淺，都一定能在今年的「臺中國際動畫影展」找到自己的幸福。想看世界最頂尖的動畫，或想找地方拍片，來臺中就對了！

秉持著這樣的初衷和當初設定的幾項目標，感謝所有團隊成員的戮力，終於在這麼短的時間內，呈現出來以下面貌：（1）以臺中為品牌的國際動畫競賽平臺：60 部優秀絕頂的入圍作品，將於影展期間播映。TIAF 肯定是臺灣動畫人士／市民與國際外賓的交流平臺暨文化盛會。（2）主題式的觀摩節目，營造聚焦觀摩的意義：今年以「角色方程式：動物不正經」、「變動的世界觀：奇異家庭」兩個單元，呈現不同動物角色的創意，與動畫世界觀裡家庭議題的深刻性。此外，更進一步籌劃了「發現新視角：感官衝擊」與「發現新視角：水墨來潮」，引薦近年來動畫創新與實驗的美學議題。（3）親子動畫節目，強化與市民互動的情感連結：今年的兩個親子動畫單元「寶貝小宇宙」，片單皆是國際動畫節得獎影片與入圍影片，將與觀眾同饗！（4）擴增周邊活動的產學效益：今年，我們不僅邀請了波蘭動畫大師葉茲庫夏舉辦焦點導演問答；也邀請了英倫動畫獎（BAW）策展人珍琵琳針對國內動畫藝術創作者介紹國外藝術駐村的專題講座。當然，最關鍵緊要的是，我們更精心安排了「臺灣動畫搶先看」單元，邀請幾組正在籌劃臺灣動畫電影長片的創作團隊，和觀眾面對面，暢談臺灣自製動畫長片的未來可能性！喜愛動畫的專業人士與一般市民，就讓我們擁抱這一年一度的盛會！

Taichung Film Development Foundation was established in 2016, with the aim to build a friendly city for films and visual arts. Not only do we assist crews in making films in Taichung, we also actively collaborate with various film festivals in Taiwan, offering the residents a diverse selection of films. Furthermore, we carry on with a more important mission: to build up the Taichung International Animation Festival that covers both local and international dimensions for this city of creativity. This year the TIAF has many initiatives: in terms of the competition, we called for international submissions, forging a communication platform for domestic and foreign filmmakers while showing the latest animations to the audience; for promoting the film art, we have launched the “Child jury”, inviting children to see and vote for their favorite films and cultivating their interests in animation. Another initiative is the Stop-Motion Animation Workshop, which is aimed to encourage everyone to join the creative process, getting in contact with the medium and learning about animation production. Regarding the program, we invited Prof. C.Jay SHIH from the Department of Multimedia and Animation Arts at the National Taiwan University of Arts, to be our program director. For the first time, the films are divided by “themes”; it serves as a guide to the selections and yet allows the audiences to freely interpret the films. Furthermore, in “Taiwan Showcase”, we invite the animated films that are still in production to the presentation, bringing filmmakers and distributors together to share their experience and make contribution to the Taiwanese animation. Lastly, we commissioned Jnana Studio and the Department of Visual Communication Design at Chaoyang University of Technology, to jointly make the promo video, serving as a bridge between the industry and the academia. All the effort we have put in is for the audiences. No matter how much you know about animation, you will find something that makes you happy at the TIAF. Whether you want to watch the best animation in the world or to make a film of your own, we wholeheartedly welcome you to Taichung!

I was born in Taichung, and when I was invited to be the program director of the 2017 Taichung International Animation Festival in April this year, I felt not only honored but also obliged to share my experience and specialism. Bearing such an ambition in mind and together with the efforts and dedication of the TIAF team, we have managed to present the following: (1)Branded as an international animation competition in Taichung, sixty outstanding nominated films are screened during the festival, making the TIAF a grand cultural event for the residents, film professionals and international guests. (2)Themed panorama screenings with diverse focuses, including Character Formula: Animals Gone Wild and World In Motion: Unusual Family demonstrate the creativity through varied creatures and the profound examination of family, while New Angle : Chinese-Ink As Style and New Angle : Contemporary Experimental Animation introduce the experimental and innovative animation aesthetics developed in recent years. (3)Sections for parents and children that enhance the interaction and emotional bonding with audience: both sections of Baby Universe offer the award-winning films from around the world, which guarantee the audiences’ satisfaction. (4)Extended events to increase the interaction between the industry, the academia and the general public. This year, we have not only invited Polish animation master Jerzy Kucia in the Director In Focus session but also the founder of British Animation Awards Jayne Pilling for a talk on the artist residency programs abroad. Most importantly, we have arranged the Taiwan Showcase, with attendance of several production teams currently working on Taiwanese feature-length animations to share their experience and to talk about the future possibilities. We would like to invite everyone, film professionals and the general public alike, to join us for this annual celebration of animation art.

Neon is a colorless and odorless gas, but when going through an electrified glass tube, it emits an orange glow. The scientists were amazed and named the gas “neon”, meaning “new”. Hence we use it to symbolize love in this film.

Since the 1970s, his animation shorts have won international acclaim. His works resemble the tapestry of painting, images, photos and moving pictures, interwoven with environmental sounds and music. They are the poems of light and sound, reflecting memories, dreams and reality with warmth and emotion.

Reconstructing certain attributes of the landscape and the strains of music serve to stir the memory. 這是創作者為期一年的水墨創作計劃，在最忙碌紛亂的狀態下，每晚深夜時分，用水墨流動的技法記錄從心境深處浮現的意象、幻象，隨著時間的流逝，水和墨的聚散，即興發揮，一種內在心象的呼吸軌跡。

故事描述一位畫藝精湛的老畫家，以出神入化的繪畫技巧為畫中神獸點睛開眼，不料神獸卻跑出畫紙大鬧書房，畫家一氣之下急忙拿出一幅鍾馗畫像，同時也為鍾馗畫上了眼睛，一場畫中大戰就此展開。

身處在臺灣聯考制度下的一名學生，某日的早晨突然發現自己變成了一隻蟲，雙親都無法接受他的樣貌，將他關在房間內餵養。本片靈感來自卡夫卡小說《蛻變》。

以色彩鮮豔的水墨技法描繪出一個如畫般的美麗小池塘，其中的一隻紅蜻蜓和一隻綠蜻蜓之間，發生了一段故事。生動的動物與景致展現出大自然的迷人之處，反映大自然微妙的競爭與平衡。

Inspired by The Metamorphosis by Franz Kafka, the film depicts a Taiwanese student, who suddenly turns into an insect. As his parents cannot accept the fact, they keep him confided to his room.

T h e Po n d i s a n a n i m a t e d s h o r t f i l m a b o u t w h a t happens between a red and a green dragonflies living in a beautiful lotus pond. It reflects the competition and harmony co-existing in the nature and the director’s longing for a quiet peaceful life.

A room retains one's traces of life. I want to question humans’ being and loss as time flows by reflecting on the traces left in a room and its elements ranging from space, walls, door, windows, stuff and so on.

Asia, as a conglomeration of regional imagination, seems to represent certain distant Eastern aesthetics with traditions waiting to be discovered and interpreted. 陰暗的房裡沾滿血腥，一隻又一隻公雞被送上砧板待宰，男孩蜷縮在角落驚恐地看著一切發生。這天是他的屠夫父親教他如何殺雞的第一天，沉重的屠刀、公雞瞪大了眼，然而他似乎無法阻止一切發生。

In the summer of 1992, Dujung, a primary school pupil, goes to a farm in the suburbs with his parents. While his parents believe the expensive and rare specialty from the farm will strengthen their son’s body, Dujung suffers side effects.

The story is about the emotional trauma a butcher's son undergoes during his first kill and the consequences.

父親像顆不定時炸彈，喝醉了就會把自己和媽媽當成出氣筒，每天她只能躲在黑暗角落，等待風暴過去。隨著年紀增長，痛苦似乎隨著父親的離去而漸漸消失，只是心中的陰影仍不時出現在她生命中，將她綑綁。

一首唱給女兒的搖籃曲，從母親無微不至的照料、兒時的田間風景，唱到父親的身影。從母親低迴歌聲裡，聽見光明與黑暗、美麗與哀愁。導演阮氏南鳳凝視回憶裡的母性低語，透過兒童的眼光，書寫一則兩代女性的傳承物語。

冷戰時期，大量的地下情報密碼透過無線廣播發送。某日坐困於大雪深山中的男孩轉開了收音機，無意在頻道之間聽到了密碼聲響，長長短短的電磁波穿越空間限制、飛越山嶺，隨著訊號越清晰，意想不到的內容也漸漸浮現。

I n n o c e n t M e m o r y s h o w s t h e c o n t r a s t b et w e e n happiness and sadness, beauty and darkness, all accompanied with my mother’s lullaby. Retrospectively seen from my point of view, the relationship between the two generations is portrayed in the metaphoric and symbolic images.

A number of stations are prominently used during the Cold War. A boy is tuning the radio in the snow mountain and happens to hear the shortwave of codes.

一個現代男子進入畫中世界展開旅程，在旅程中形變成動物或植物，與自然合而為一。動畫中的四個場景分別為〈谿山行旅圖〉等四幅歷史上重要的中國山水畫，畫中景色被製作成真實模型場景，人物和動植物在其中全是逐格拍攝。

This is a stop-motion animation of a little modern man traveling through four significant ancient Chinese paintings. Each painting represents four important stages of landscape art in Chinese history. Based on the original paintings, we built the sets and animated the little character inside - all frame by frame.

Birdlime is the name for a sticky substance spread on branches to trap wild birds intended for export or trade. The film observes one bird, who barely manages to escape this industry, yet remains trapped in a cage and surrounded by unfamiliar sounds and unbirdlike creatures.

A little black bird comes along to water a yellow leaf. Suddenly a squirrel nicks the bird’s watering can. The bird follows the cheeky thief. This is the start of an exciting chase through the forest, but behind the trees the red fox is waiting for his chance.

2D 動畫︱ 2D Animati on

水墨動畫︱ Ink-Brush Animation

傳統的 2D 動畫，又稱平面動畫或二維動畫，其中 2 D 指的是平面向度之意；指稱運用系列平面單幅的手繪 ╱ 賽璐璐圖稿、上色加工圖像 ╱ 影像，經過單格攝影手法創造出來的活動影像。數位時代之後，電腦軟體可以直接製作或者輸入平面單幅圖稿，再利用時間軸排序圖像，不再被傳統製作手法所侷限，鏡頭運動除了左右上下橫移，還可以營造出縱深移動，視覺感受就不再那麼平面了。這樣的 2D 動畫通常又稱「數位 2 D 動畫」。

從字面上解讀，水墨動畫意指運用水墨 ╱ 墨彩為繪製工具，帶有技術創新性的動畫影像。然而，狹義的水墨動畫指的是 1960 年開始，上海美術電影製片廠創造出風格獨步的中國水墨動畫。數位時代之後，當代華人甚至世界各地的獨立動畫創作者，進一步試圖利用數位工具呈現水墨材質與美術風格的動畫，則可以說是廣義的「數位水墨動畫」。

3D 動畫︱ 3D Animation

停格動畫︱ Stop-Motion Animation

3 D 指的是立體向度，數位時代之前 3D 是偶動畫、停格動畫的代名詞；數位時代之後，3D 動畫意指在電腦軟體裡直接建模、塑型、架骨架、上材質，製作數位角色與搭建場景，進而以虛擬燈光、攝影機，創造出鏡頭運動靈活、彷彿真實立體空間感表現的活動影像。目前的 3 D 動畫，通常指的就是「電腦 3D 動畫」，臺灣也常指需要戴 3 D 立體眼鏡觀看的動畫為「3D 立體動畫」（3D Stereoscopic Animatio n ）。

停格動畫是以拍攝手法定義的動畫類型，主要是單格攝製準備就緒的人偶、翻模模型、道具、真人、實體物品等，逐格調整以上被拍攝主體的位置動線，或者姿態，甚至逐格移動攝影機位置所創造出來的活動影像。

手繪動畫︱ Hand-Drawn Animation

黏土動畫︱ Clay Animation / Claymation）

手繪動畫發展於傳統 2D 動畫之前，意指在製作前期時，背景與角色完全以手繪方式繪製而成的活動影像；是刻意區別產業化後的傳統 2 D 動畫，在賽璐璐材質上再次描繪角色，帶有加工生產線的刻版風格，強調動畫以手繪製作的自由度與風格。

黏土動畫是使用黏土等可塑性材質所製作的停格動畫。這類動畫因為黏土材質的可塑性特色，無論是運用在角色表演或者場景轉換上，很容易創造出「形變」的動畫趣味性；和傳統的木偶動畫、模型動畫等雖然都是屬於停格動畫的類型，但是黏土動畫的角色表情空間無疑有更大的可能性。

實體動畫︱ Object Animation

玻璃彩繪動畫︱ Paint on Glass Animation

實體動畫也是停格動畫的一種次類型，意指使用積木、玩具、娃娃、桌椅等現成的實體物品來逐格拍攝製作的活動影像。這種動畫在影像上通常比較沒有明顯的人型角色，有時也會與其它類型的停格動畫混合創作。

玻璃彩繪動畫和沙畫動畫一樣是實驗動畫中的一種次類型，指使用油彩在玻璃上彩繪，逐格構成影像，並逐格拍攝製作的活動影像。其手法通常是將油彩顏料放置在垂直式的動畫拍攝檯上的玻璃檯面，並從玻璃背後打光；動畫家或以手指或以筆刷等小器具，逐格繪製影像並定格拍攝，創造出以油彩構成畫面、色彩明暗變化無垠的活動影像。

沙畫動畫︱ Sand Animation

剪紙動畫︱ Cut-Out Animation

實驗動畫中的一種次類型，意指使用沙為影像構成材料，逐格拍攝製作的活動影像。其手法通常是將沙子放置在垂直式的動畫拍攝檯上的玻璃檯面，並從玻璃背後打光；動畫家或以手或以小器具，逐格撥弄沙子定格拍攝，創造出系列以沙子構成、明暗對比強烈的活動影像。

中文的剪紙動畫是由剪紙藝術發展而來，以剪紙素材為拍攝體，逐格拍攝製作的活動影像。由於剪紙動畫的前期製作技法是又挖又剪，以紙張、卡片、布料等為材質的拍攝物，曾經被中譯為「挖剪動畫」，其實更接近英文的名詞概念。早期的動畫藝術家，以背後打光手法拍攝紙偶，造成皮影戲效果，又特別稱呼這種特殊表現的動畫為「剪影動畫」。數位時代之後的「數位剪紙動畫」和數位 2D 動畫一樣，也多了縱深的鏡頭運動表現。材質運用，也不再侷限於剪紙藝術的模擬了！

偶動畫︱ Puppet Animation

真人動畫︱ Pixilation

偶動畫是停格動畫的一種次類型，主要以停格手法拍攝，被拍攝主體以偶為角色所製作完成的活動影像。偶的材質運用可以包羅萬象，動畫早期發展，以現成的娃娃、木偶、紙偶等為主流；後來，黏土偶、翻模製作的偶在好萊塢業界當道。許多實驗動畫家則熱衷開發創新，鐵絲偶、絨毛氈偶…… 不一而足。

停格動畫中，使用真人做為拍攝對象或角色，逐格拍攝製作的活動影像。由於逐格拍攝過程中，真人演員無論是姿態或表情，都是逐格擺姿勢，如同櫥窗中的假人一樣被拍攝出來；因此，放映時連續播映的、螢幕上的影像，和所有製作技法的動畫片一樣。「表演動作」都是被創造出來的，不曾存在過的動作！回到英文字根，就是那一種「怪異的、瘋瘋癲癲的」超現實動作感！
