COMMUNITY CENTRE

The idea behind urban regeneration of the residential territory in Vilnius, Žirmūnai district is to acknowledge the problems of Soviet free-planning area and establish new clear compositional and spational structure. Creating new boundaries formed by blocks gives the understanding of spatial hierarchy for the residents of the area as well as forming new primary channel leading from one local visual landmark to another and creating spatial corridor which connects public spaces. One of these spaces becomes a square formed in front of the designed community centre.

The idea architecture of this complex covers the need for the balance of the nature and (incoherent) urbanization of the territory. As the purpose of urban regeneration is to create clear structure, architectural goal is to express the organic nature of the surrounding greenery, river and wildlife.

How to find the balance? How to show the connectivity? Here, the advantage of topography is used to create soft transition from tall residential buildings to a community centre.

The green walls show direct connection to the nature, going from the public square, the observer sees not high-rised structures but rather something familiar to a human scale, covered in plants, reminding of the nature. From the park side, the observer sees relatively higher structures, covered with soft materials of white plaster and glazing.

The planning of the main building covers the idea of inside-outside connection. Firstly, the observer goes down the stairs to the public amphitheatre which is separated form inside hall (amphitheatre) only by the glazed wall.

PUBLIC LIBRARY

Sensitive and modern approach of form, space and light in the heart of Rennes’ Old Town. The accent of the area is the Saint-Germain church, which is placed in the middle of the block. Main approach of design seeks to reflect on all the past styles, that were surrounding this site for centuries, materials, patterns, colours and forms. They are “soaked in”, kept in mind and reflected in a contemporary approach.

Each side of designed library plays along with the surroundings in front of them. Middle part of the library is represented by the flow-corridor, to seek the continuity from the street towards the church, while the library becomes a place to stop by, rest and enjoy the time as well as a communicating modern link.

WORK IN PROGRESS

“ACTION by APOLLO” ENTERTAINMENT CENTRE AT PPC “OZAS” | IMPLEMENTED

Project team: Tomas Rimkus, Julija Novikova (“AEXN Architects”)

Photography: Norbert Tukaj

The space of diverse functionality required fast and effective high-quality solutions, fitting a wide variety of activities “under one roof”. Encouraged by renewal of the brand concept of quite known, classic colours and style for the client required a complete redesign of the initial versions for the project. New colour palette and style were used in order to create a unanimous vision, uniting the space of more than 2500 sq. m. altogether. Bright colours, smooth patterns and wall prints in accordance with the vision of warm west coast, energized youth and joy, were able to unite not only interior solutions and a variety of activities into unified design concept, but as well, to create a playful and joyful atmosphere for the customers.

RECONSTRUCTION AND INTERIOR DESIGN OF CINEMA THEATRE IN TALIN, ESTONIA | FINISHED DESIGN, RECONSTRUCTION IN PROGRESS

Project team:

A big scale project, that took our team a lot of effort, patience and creativity. This cinema theatre presents a leveled up cinema experience for its spectators, besides new screening technologies, there are some other features as additional services and different types of seating. These changes required additional, thought-out features in auditorium reconstruction, incorporated together with unique and individual to each auditorium interior design. The main objective, to create unanimous design, was achieved within the hard work of our team, successfully composing modern, “technology” style like ideas in the interior solutions along with comfortable access and usage for the staff and cinema theatre clients.
