ROUNDUP Staff Successes Join us in celebrating a number of long service milestones and apprentice successes at TNS over the summer period.

Meet the Beast The new Valtra Q series has arrived. Think like a pro, work like a beast.

Harvest Season With another busy harvest season in the books, take a look through our highlights from Harvest 2022.

www.tnsgroup.co.uk

Welcome S

ince writing in July, we have supported our customers in finalising harvest, planting next year’s and guided them with their investment decisions. As a family we continue to support our industry in feeding the nation. As we start to plan for 2023, I am pleased to announce some changes you will see over the coming months. I am delighted to announce that we will be extending our portfolio with Manitou, having been awarded the Industrial line to complement the Agriculture and Construction offerings. This move continues to demonstrate our desire to grow our representation with this key supplier. Our current customer base has synergies with the industrial products and this growth in our product offerings affords us a new market opportunity in the sectors of warehousing, distribution and robot automation. Couple this with the addition of the new ULM model arriving shortly we continue to see significant interest in this exciting brand. I am also pleased to announce is that, coupled with the Manitou franchise expansion, we have signed a distribution contract for the Nugent trailer franchise. Nugent is a Northern Ireland based manufacturer offering a high-quality broad range of horticultural, agricultural, plant and equestrian trailers well suited to our customer base. This appointment further enhances our diversification strategy and aligns nicely with our current customer base. Distribution will be managed through our Groundcare team but will be available to sell through all our sales teams, digital platforms, and retail sales outlets. It is pleasing to note we have employed 8 new starters onto our apprenticeship scheme. This is the largest cohort we have inducted for several years and coincides with a new partnership with Riseholme College. We must continue to encourage new people into our business to help sustain the future of our industry, so I would personally like to take this opportunity to wish Joshua, Kai, Scott, Charles, Emmett, James, Luke and Cameron a long and enjoyable career at TNS. During this last year we have seen an increase in demand for innovative ways to fund our customers assets. During 2023 as we grow our portfolio in new revenue sectors, it is vital we align our business with strong partners. We have made the decision to rebrand our in-house finance business TNS Finance as Woods Asset Finance. Wood AF will be an impartial finance brokering business offering innovative solutions for businesses in East Anglia. Woods is a name deeply rooted in Agriculture originally founded in 1812, finally purchased by my family in 1914. As we navigate our way to 150 years’ trading in 2025, it is only fitting we raise the Woods brand name from the proverbial ashes. One of the more pleasurable aspects of my job is presenting long service awards and recently I had the pleasure of presenting Graham King, our Assistant Parts Manager at Melton with his 50th Anniversary award. Graham started his career in 1972 straight from school into the Melton workshop working for our family since 1994 and has been a constant support to all those who have worked with him. Thank you Graham, and here’s to another 50! I must express my thanks to our suppliers and all those in our own business who work tirelessly to support our customers, without whom we would be at a loss. Lastly thank you to all our wonderful customers, without whom we would not be where we are today.

Hard Working Harvest Teams across all of our TNS depots have been working tirelessly to make sure this harvest season went as efficiently as possible. Q2 Company Value Recognition Awards

I would like to take the opportunity to thank those who took the time to celebrate a colleague, by nominating them for our recognition award. I am truly thrilled by the quality and quantity of nominations in Q2 and I feel there is a real awareness to our campaign. The nominations clearly cover a broad spectrum of colleagues, clearly demonstrating a wealth of people who excel in their roles within the Group. This has not been an easy decision for me, but I am thrilled to see so many displaying the characteristics we aim for. Their brilliance has made it an incredibly difficult task, to single out one person from our 600 colleagues is nearly impossible, but here goes…… Special recognition should go to….. Professional – Hannah Smith, Service Advisor, Milton Keynes. 2 years 7 months “Hannah dealt with a distressed customer, despite finishing work for the day. The customer has since contacted me to thank Hannah for her efforts and explained Hannah was the reason he will continue dealing with Thurlow Nunn” An amazing effort by Hannah. The professionalism displayed by Hannah when dealing with an unhappy customer is inspiring and I have no doubt we have many colleagues who support the company this way on a daily basis. Thank you all and thank you Hannah.

Specialist Installations Division Whilst this part of the business has built its reputation on undertaking turn-key projects it is equally at home supplying component parts. The Division is headed by Jeremy Nunn, a Director of TNS, it has a team of seven, including two in technical sales and contract management, plus a full time draughtsperson. Jeremy is a part of the Nunn family, which maintains the links between the Nunn and Thurlow families as a third generation family member. We can organise all aspects of a project including equipment supply, Local Authority Planning and Building Regulations, Health and Safety Regulations, finance, steelframe buildings and ground-works, flood risk assessments, archaeological surveys, electricity and gas supply and installation, hard and soft landscaping.

Recent Projects In August, Thurlow Nunn Standen’s Specialist Installations Division (SID) were commissioned to construct a 1,000 tonne grain store, sprayer filling area and a welfare area for a customer near Thaxted. When an early harvest was predicted SID’s specialist contractors pulled out all the stops to complete sufficient elements of the construction to allow the customer to store his grain harvest. Work continues to complete the sprayer lean-to, welfare facilities and external yard.

In the Community Fakenham Summer Fayre

O

ur Valtra had a great day out at Fakenham Junior and Infant Schools Summer Fayre in July. We're glad all the children (and adults!) enjoyed getting to look around and sit inside the cab. We also hope the winner of our Gardening Bundle donation prize enjoys their new tools as well. Hope everyone had a great time!

Isleham One Day Event

W

e were pleased to sponsor the Isleham One Day Equestrian Event on the 23rd and 24th July. The event went successfully and Jackie, one of the joint organisers, had this to say: ‘‘We had a memorable and successful weekend, with such fabulous positive comments, especially with regards our unique and kind fen soils and so we are so very glad we kept our nerve when the entries were coming in very slowly. We would have liked another 50 to 100 entries but we realise in the current climate all events are short of entries.’’

14

Proceeds went towards the East Anglian Air Ambulance, Congratulations to all involved! Images courtesy of Action Replay Photography.

West Wratting Football Club

W

e are proud to sponsor West Wratting Football Club’s Reserve team. They play in division 1A of the Cambridgeshire County Football League.

We are very much looking forward to cheering for the team and would like to wish West Wratting Football Club’s Reserve team the best for the season ahead.

Young Farmers Weekend

Team TNS vs Ampton & Culford XI S eptember saw the return of the annual TNS vs Ampton & Culford XI cricket match!

With a few rounds of negotiation, TNS were put into bat first with Will Harwood and Rob Wilson opening the batting. With TNS seeing out the full 20 overs, they finished up on 104-7. After filling up from the barbeque, kindly being manned by Ben Hockley and Kris Clarke, Ampton & Culford XI started the chase. It was a closely fought contest but ultimately, in the 19th over, Ampton & Culford XI managed to reach the target of 105 to win this year’s match. Well done to everyone for an enjoyable afternoon. We will be back to claim the trophy next year!

16

Coffee Morning TNS Littleport and Kennett took part in a coffee morning to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support. We managed to raise £250 between the branches to help those living with Cancer. Thank you for donating!

Claydon Open Day

W

e recently held an open day over at Claydon Drills, giving customers a chance to get up close to their drilling and cultivating machines, as well as having the chance to speak to the experts within the Claydon team.

The afternoon consisted of a lunch kindly provided by Claydon, followed by a welcome presentation by Jeff Claydon, CEO of Claydon. After hearing from Jeff, the group went on a tour around Claydon’s facilities to see the process of how their machinery is manufactured. Finally, the group headed out to the demonstration fields where we got the chance to see Claydon’s Terrastar, Straw Harrow and Evolution M6 Drill in action. A very informative and enjoyable afternoon, thanks to Claydon for hosting us!

Apprenticeships GROW. TOGETHER.

At TNS we believe that an apprenticeship is so much more than just "making the tea" - it is an opportunity to develop your skills and knowledge in your chosen career with the support of an employer interested in your success.

Why Choose The TNS Apprenticeship Programme? • An apprenticeship is an opportunity to “earn while you learn” and gain a nationally recognised qualification for the work you do every day • The TNS “Foundation Year” gives you an opportunity to decide if a career in agricultural engineering is right for you • You will work on up-to-date agricultural machinery and therefore be at the front of cutting-edge technologies • The AGCO Apprenticeship provides you with a university “campus style” experience at College • At TNS there are a wide range of future career opportunities to work towards, for example, technologies, field sales, management roles “I was really looking for an apprenticeship which offered me variety. I really enjoy my work at tns; no day is ever the same, from service breakdowns, repairs to meeting customers, i am always doing something different. My work is going well and i am supported in completing the tasks required for my qualification” Ryan Rickwood, Service Technician For more information on our Apprenticeship programme, visit our website:

I

t has now been over two years since the launch of our SymAgri brand which offers practical precision technology solutions and support to farmers, farm machinery dealers and original farm equipment manufacturers (OEMs).

Back in 2020 being part of the Thurlow Nunn Group, which includes Thurlow Nunn Standen, we recognised that there was a need for a specialist department focusing on precision technology within agriculture. We appreciated that this department needed to be independent and carry a wide range of products to suit an everdeveloping sector within agriculture. As a result, we created SymAgri, which has been growing and gaining a reputation for excellent service. In the last two years, we have faced many challenges, both inside and outside the agricultural industry. Like most customers and companies, SymAgri has faced supply and pricing problems which have been challenging, but we have overcome most and continue to work hard on the rest. Despite all this everyone at SymAgri are incredibly proud of what we have achieved in a relatively short space of time. We pride ourselves on good honest advice, support and service, and this is reflected in the business we have received. I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of our customers. Technology and data will continue to become an increasingly important part of efficient agricultural operations, and we look forward to working with you and supporting your business.

New Kubota LXE-261 Electric Compact Tractor Arriving in 2023 Kubota Corporation is the first Japanese manufacturer* to release a limited number of LXe-261 compact electric tractors in Europe, since the company is actively striving towards carbon neutrality. For that reason, Kubota has been transitioning to electric, hybrid, and fuel-cell drives in an effort to decarbonise power sources and reduce CO2 emissions. The LXe-261 includes key features for mowing, hauling, and other green space management tasks, such as an independent PTO, a comfortable HST transmission and several hydraulic outlets.
