East London Mosque: Selflessness or Self Serving? (Part 1) Anonymous Dec 24, 2020 · 7 min read

Introduction In all its glory as one of the country’s biggest mosques, the East London Mosque has been failing the Muslim community for a very long time. It is an organisation that has become embroiled in controversy over the years and is marred by poor leadership and bad decision making. The real concern will always be the communities that have unwittingly donated millions to prop up an organisation and leadership that is seriously failing and overflowing with conflicts of interest that has become systemic in all of its dealing. The East London Mosque is a charity organisation registered with the Charity Commission. It is governed by the ‘trustees’ who are legally responsible for the charity and all of the organisation’s activities. It can be said, some of these trustees have remained in these positions for an incredibly significant amount of time spanning decades, which in itself is testimony to the patriarchal hegemony that they hold.
