A MESSAGE FROM THE CEO
JANIE D. FRUG É
Dear Friends,
As this year comes to a close, I find myself reflecting on what makes West Calcasieu Cameron Hospital (WCCH) so special — our people, our patients and the shared purpose that connects us all. Every milestone we’ve reached this year has been made possible by the dedication of our team and the trust of the community we’re honored to serve.
It’s been a year of exciting growth and momentum. In June, we were proud to welcome Dr. Kamran Shahid to our medical staff, expanding access to expert oncology and hematology care for local families. We also recently welcomed Dr. Charles Hansen to our medical staff and Collins Orthopaedics, strengthening our services and helping ensure patients have access to exceptional orthopaedic care right here at home.
Our commitment to meeting people where they are continues through Calcasieu Family Physicians –Carlyss Clinic, which is now accepting new patients. This location allows us to reach even more families in our region with the high-quality, compassionate care they deserve.
Beyond the walls of our hospital and clinics, the WCCH Foundation has had a truly remarkable year. In September, Wine Down, Vino 101 brought friends together for an evening of fun and purpose, raising vital funds to support local health initiatives. Then in October, the Ethel Precht Hope Breast Cancer Walk of WCCH filled our community with inspiration and hope, raising over $130,000 for local breast cancer patients. It was a record-breaking year for our Foundation and a powerful reminder of what hope and generosity can accomplish.
Looking ahead, the future of WCCH is bright. With new providers joining our team and a continued focus on patient-centered care, we remain deeply committed to improving health and enriching lives across Southwest Louisiana.
Thank you for being such an important part of this journey. Your trust and support inspire us every day to keep moving forward — one patient, one family and one neighbor at a time.

Hope CLOSE TO HOME:
Welcome Dr. Kamran Shahid, Bringing Expert Cancer Care to Southwest Louisiana
As we settle into the quiet of winter and gather with loved ones, the holidays can carry an added weight for many — especially those touched by cancer. At a time when comfort, support and access to care matter most, West Calcasieu Cameron Hospital is honored to welcome Dr. Kamran Shahid, MD, to our hematology oncology medical staff in Sulphur.

A Physician Who Brings Depth, Compassion and Proximity
Dr. Shahid is board-certified in both hematology and medical oncology and has been practicing here in SWLA for the past five years. He holds a medical degree from Aga Khan University in Karachi, and completed his internship, residency and fellowship training at LSU Health Sciences Center in Shreveport.
Before arriving in Southwest Louisiana, he served as an assistant professor of hematology oncology at UT Health North Campus Tyler — affiliated with MD Anderson — where he also led survivorship initiatives and clinical research studies. But perhaps most meaningful to our patients and community is that Dr. Shahid now offers cancer care right here, close to home. Patients and families no longer have to journey far for expert oncology treatment — they can find it right here in Sulphur.
What Patients Can Expect
In his practice, Dr. Shahid combines evidence-based cancer treatments with compassionate support. Patients can expect:
• Comprehensive cancer care (diagnosis, treatment, follow-up)
• A focus on personalized treatment plans, tailored to each individual’s disease, health status and goals
• Coordination of care — working side by side with surgeons, radiation oncologists, radiologists and supportive care teams
• Attention to survivorship, symptom management and quality of life
During a season when planning and uncertainty weigh heavily, having a trusted oncologist within the region means fewer disruptions, less travel and a more integrated continuum of care.
The end of the year is often a time for reflection, renewal and focusing on what matters most: family, health and community. For patients and their loved ones facing cancer, those themes carry special significance. Dr. Shahid is committed not only to treating disease, but to walking alongside you through the emotional and physical challenges that arise — especially during the holidays and into a new year.

Dr. Shahid is welcoming new patient referrals.

FOR THE Underinsured
A Continuing Mission through the WCCH Foundation

At the heart of every healthy community is the belief that everyone deserves access to care. The West Calcasieu Cameron Hospital (WCCH) Foundation continues to uphold that belief by carrying forward the mission of caring for lowincome, working underinsured residents across southwest Louisiana.
That mission gained renewed strength last year when the Calcasieu Community Clinic (CCC) Board of Directors entrusted the WCCH Foundation with its operating reserve, ensuring the Clinic’s important work would continue for years to come. Through this transition, the Foundation and the Community Health Center (CHC) of WCCH are working to expand access to quality healthcare for our region’s most vulnerable populations.
For more than two decades, the Calcasieu Community Clinic — a not-for-profit organization once located in Lake Charles — improved the well-being of working underinsured individuals and their families across Allen, Beauregard, Calcasieu, Cameron and Jefferson Davis parishes. Staffed by volunteer physicians, nurses, pharmacists and community members, the Clinic provided free medical care, prescription medications and referrals for specialty, dental and vision services. With improved health, patients were able to remain active in the workforce, support their families and contribute to the strength of their communities.
Through the Foundation’s transition, eligible CCC patients — those who are working, underinsured and earn less than 450% of the federal poverty level — continue to have access to receive care through the CHC of WCCH. The Community Health Center plays a vital role in meeting patients’ ongoing needs, offering a full range of services under one roof. From adult primary care and walk-in visits to cardiology, gynecology, general surgery, wound care and more, the CHC provides continuity of care that helps patients manage their health close to home. Since opening in July 2021, the CHC has provided more than 30,850 primary care visits and over 21,000 specialty visits—demonstrating remarkable progress in expanding healthcare access for our community.
This transition allows us to carry forward the legacy of the Calcasieu Community Clinic while broadening access to care through our Community Health Center,” said Matthew Welsh,
WCCH Chief Marketing & Community Impact Officer. “It’s about continuing a mission of compassion and ensuring everyone in our community has access to the care they deserve.”
A TOAST TO COMPASSION: WINE DOWN
For over a decade, Wine Down, Vino 101 has been the signature fundraiser for the Calcasieu Community Clinic Fund. Funds raised through Wine Down help provide healthcare services to low-income, working and uninsured residents across Imperial Calcasieu’s five-parish area.
Thanks to the generosity of sponsors, patrons and community partners, Wine Down continues to fuel the mission of caring — one patient and one visit at a time.
Wine Down: Wine Was the Word!
This year’s Wine Down, presented by L’Auberge Casino Resort – Lake Charles, took guests back to Rydell High for a Grease-themed night of wine, fun and vintage flair. Guests sipped and savored red and white wines, enjoyed retro-inspired bites and reminisced about the oldies — all in true ’50s style. It was a night of great flavor, community spirit and plenty of Summer Lovin’ vibes!
