SALE

Delivery: We will provide free delivery within 500km. If shipping out of country is required, we will assist in making arrangements. Testing and trucking is at buyers’ expense. Pick up options available after sale ends; to be arranged with Ryan or Sara Gilchrist. All animals must be picked up or delivered by November 30th, 2023 unless prior arrangements have been made.

Payment: may be made by cheque or e-transfer, payable at the end of sale. Cheques and e-transfers can be sent to the breeder you purchased from. The right of property shall not pass until after settlement has been made.

Health: All sale animals are fully vaccinated. At birth - Gilchrist Genetics Heifers received Inforce 3 and Calf Guard. Nolara Farms Heifers received Inforce 3, ADE & Selenium, cows are vaccinated with Scour bos prior to calving. At pasture turn out and weaning - Gilchrist Genetics Heifers received Bovishield Gold One Shot, Fermicon 7/Ultrabac 8, and Ivomectin. Nolara Farms heifers received Pyramid 5 with Presponse, Vision 8 and Ivomectin.

• All lots will sell under the standard terms and conditions put forward by the Canadian Simmental Association.

• Every animal sells to the highest bidder, as determined by FarmGate Auctions.

• Registration papers will be transferred to buyer after payment has been received.

• Animal purchased becomes responsibility of buyer at the end of the sale. We highly recommend that you purchase insurance. While we will always provide the utmost care of your animal, we are not responsible for any illness, injuries or mortality after the animal is declared sold.

Welcome to the third edition of Gilchrist Genetic Gems Female Sale. We are excited for this adventure to continue. When we created this sale we wanted to offer exclusively heifer calves so that they could fit into any breeding program. These girls will be a perfect addition whether you calve January or May!

We run 100 momma cows, purebred Simmentals and a commercial herd primarily Simmental x Angus based. We AI all our cows both purebred and commercial on their first cycle to add genetic diversity to our herd. In our offering you will find heifers sired by MADER Walk this Way 224B, MRL Southern Comfort, HART State of War 056C, CCR Cowboy Cut, NCB Cobra 47Y, HARVIE Red Summit 54B, and WINC Live Ammo 420B.

The heifer calves were weaned August 8th with the use of quiet weans for a less stressful transition. All the sale heifers are fully vaccinated & palpated by a veterinarian. These heifers are out of productive cows and influential sires that we know will go out and work for their new owners. Whether you want to show or raise seedstock, at the end of the day you will have a productive female.

We are excited to welcome Larry and Nola Van Sickle of Nolara Farms to join us again this year with a small offering of heifers from their purebred red & fullblood divisions. All sale females will be videoed prior to the sale and can be viewed on our facebook pages @Gilchrist Genetics or @Nolara Farms, Bohrson Marketing Services website or on the DLMS Farmgate listing.

We are excited to announce that our 2023 bull calves will be selling in our NEW Annual Bull Sale February 18th, 2024! It will be held in the same format as this heifer sale. GG Ms Licious 7l

We have gone back and forth all summer on which of these two flush mates is the better one, so we’ve decided to leave that up to the industry. Licious 7L and Licious 17L are both the results of embryos we purchased in an Alberta Young Simmental Association fundraiser. Being that Sara grew up in the program, we are always happy to support the Young Canadian Simmental Association. Licious 7L & Licious 17L’s mother, WFL Black Licious 424B is a beautiful broody cow. Our hope is that both these heifers turn into that type of cow as they mature, with an added touch of femininity from their sire Live Ammo!

The Licious Cow family was a feature in this summer’s hottest sale “Family Matters”. They were well received with Canadian Donors purchasing the lead off cow of the Licious family. The Licious family has produced two industry great herd sires; WFL Westcott 24C & WFL Westerdale 6E. Licious 7L & Licious 17L are long bodied females that are smooth made and feminine. You won’t want to miss out on owning a piece of one of the industries great cow families!

GG Vintage Lace 27l

Letting this lady go was not an easy decision, but we feel she deserves to be out in the industry being a show animal for a junior and/or be a productive female for her new owner. We will be taking GG Vintage Lace 27L to Olds Fall Classic at the beginning of October for her debut show experience. 27L is a well balanced, structurally complete female with a great disposition and hair coat. We had 5 Walk this Way progeny hit the ground this spring, 3 heifers, 2 of which are in this sale, and two bulls who will be sold in our new bull sale in February 2024.

GG Red Ruby 30l

You read the pedigree correctly! We are letting another Ruby leave the herd, this time sired by Harvie Red Summit 54B. Her maternal sister sold in last year’s sale to Aumack Simmentals of Saskatchewan. Red Ruby exhibits the Summit stamp; she is square hipped, and fluffy eared, and is black muzzled. The mother of Red Ruby 30L has a bright future here with us, with a possible future in the donor pen with her production track record thus far!

GG Duchess Lana 39l

Lana 39L is the second of two Mader Walk this Way daughters to sell in our offering. The Walk this Way progeny have been highly sought after since the sale of the industry breed changer Mader Walk the Line to KT Ranches & Canadian Sires for an overwhelming $280,000. The production of the Duchess cow family is second to none! Lana might not be as fancy made as others in the offering but don’t let this loosely constructed, sound and deep bodied female pass you by! It’s often females like this that add great value to a herd!

GG Cut of Elegance 41l

We might be a little crazy for letting another daughter go out of SKV Gifted Elegance 64G but here we are! For those of you who haven’t been following along, last year we sold 41L’s maternal sister, GG State of Elegance 16K to the Draves family of Ty-D Livestock and their partner Darlene Scriber. They have had a ton of success with 16K in the show ring, and she has turned into the beautiful bred heifer we always thought she would! Just like 16K, Cut of Elegance displays a square hip, deep body with good spring of rib, smooth shoulder tying into a feminine blaze face. 41L is sired differently but we think she will follow in her sister’s footsteps!

GG Southern Hottie 45l

Spring 2022 we decided to add a new ai sire to our red roster, MRL Southern Comfort, and we are glad we did! We put in two straws and got two heifer calves, GG Southern Hottie 45L and one more that was slated for the sale but we are retaining due to her mother coming up open this fall. Southern Hottie has been fun to watch grow all summer. She is a fancy, compact made heifer with all the attributes to make a great momma cow. Her mother, SKV Hot Wired 7D, is a favourite around here with a consistent track record of always producing a great one!

GG Red Candace 57L

A few years back, we purchased 5 embryos from Jimmy Joe Henderson out of National Trust; Cobra x Candace. GG Red Candace 57L is the result of one of the embryos. The Candace Cow family were known to be great producers. We knew Cobra progeny were highly sought after. There’s been a lot of talk on how his females carry exceptional udders; something we are keen on here at GG. Her full sister in a black package RSG 39K, sold last year in this very sale to Lindy Kroetsch. Red Candace 57L is a very deep female with a smooth shoulder and fancy front end. We should be retaining 57L as we do not have any progeny from these embryos retained in our herd but we think she is quite good and feel she needs to be offered to the industry.

How to Participate in the DLMS Farm Gate Timed Auction with Extended Bidding

1. Visit dlms.ca and follow the link to the DLMS FarmGate timed auction site www.farmgatetimedauctions.ca, click the LOGIN/REGISTRATION button. First time users will select the REGISTER button from this page. Fill out the registration form to signup for a free user account and it allows you to select a username and password for use on all Farm Gate Timed auctions. This program will send you text and email messages whenever there is activity on your favorite lots or someone challenges your proxy bid and this is why you will be asked for both your current email and cell phone number. If you are a past participant in the Farm Gate Timed auctions simply enter your user name and password to continue. This takes you to a list of both current and upcoming Farm Gate Auctions.

2. You can choose your favourite lots in this sale at this time and the program will allow you to open either all sale lots or just your favorite lots on your screen. Any time there is active bidding on a lot you have identified on your favorite list you will get a text and/or an email noting this activity.

3. The program allows you to place a proxy bid on any sale lot. This in fact protects your interest in any lot of interest for you to a specified dollar value you set, when you may not be able to give 100% attention to the sale. If the lot has a $2000 bid on it and you place a proxy bid of $3500 into the system, the computer will bid $2100 for you but if some one else bids $2200, the computer will again bid for you, this time at $2300. The system will look after your interest to a maximum of $3500. If another bidder is on at $3600, your proxy will no longer be effective and you will no longer have the winning bid on this lot without once again logging in and bidding again or moving your attention to a second lot of interest.

4. At closing time of the sale the entire sale will extend bidding if a bid is placed on any lot in the sale. Any bid received after close time will extend the sale by the time listed on each sale. In Most cases the time gets shorter the longer in to extended bidding the sale is. When no bidding occurs for the extended time the computer will declare the sale finished.

5. Following the sale the Owner or Sale Manager will invoice all buyers in the sale, please contact the seller with questions or to arrange delivery, pick up or shipping of your purchases.

FAQ:

WHAT IS RACEHORSE STYLE SALE CLOSE? Racehorse style sale close is when the entire sale stays open in extended bidding. This type of sale allows you as the bidder to change to a different lot within the same sale if the bidding has gone in to extended bidding.

HOW WILL EXTENDED BIDDING WORK? When we get to the close out end time the clock for close extends with any bid placed with less than 5 min on the clock. This type of extended bidding turns the end time to more of a soft time. Extended bidding allows bidders to compete in lots like a real auction and give all bidders the same time to make a decision. Always follow the clock to see how much time remains in the sale you are interested in.

Welcome to the third Genetic Gems Sale! We are excited to once again join Gilchrist Genetics in this Farmgate sale. With the price of steers and cull cows being quite high this summer and fall, this may be the right time to invest in some new genetics for your herd.

We had difficult decisions to make selecting the heifers to put in this year’s sale. We have chosen our best heifers from our herd, all from our top-end cows. There are 3 Reds and 3 Fullbloods. The Reds are sired by Black Gold Lawmaker 54G, Harvie Red Summit 54B, and Kuntz Officer 25F. The Fullblood heifers are out of our herd bull Kuntz Hotshot 19H.

We would like to thank Sara and Ryan for all the work they do to make this sale a success. From feeding, clipping, photographing, videoing, creating a catalog, to hosting the open house, it is an immense undertaking and we thank you.

LNS Yesterday’s Love 10l

LNS Yesterday’s Love 10L is a long bodied Red Summit heifer calf that will make an awesome, productive female. 10L is a deep sided, deep flanked female that you’ll want to build a herd around. We sold a maternal sister to 10L to Circle G Simmentals in the 1st Genetic Gems Sale. Her Dam, LNS Yesterdays Chance 13C, is one of those TNT Gunner cows that we are so very high on; Good udder, good feet and very easy to handle! Don’t miss out on Yesterday’s Love!

LNS Lady Elizabeth 49L is a polled, dark red goggle eyed heifer out of our Kuntz Hotshot sire. She’s one we should be keeping as we sold her full sister, LNS Krystal 41K, in last years sale to Mike Bendall of Bendall Cattle. Lady Elizabeth’s mother goes back to Black Gold Epic 14Z and Crossroad Sargent 143S. Sargent was known for stamping his daughters with beautiful udders; 98E and her mother are no exception. 98E likes to put a polled head on her progeny. 49L is from a great cow family that knows how to raise a good calf year after year.

LNS Miss Law 52l

Here is a heifer calf out of another great TNT Gunner Momma, who’s consistent at raising a good one! LNS Miss Law 52L is a thick made Black Gold Lawmaker 154G calf that is square hipped and bold ribbed. 154G goes back to the renowned RF Certainly Flirtin 202Z. Miss Law also exhibits a strong level top, smooth shoulder and feminine front end. Don’t miss out on this great female!

LNS Glimmer 68l

LNS Glimmer 68L is a powerful Kuntz Officer daughter. Officer is a full brother to Kuntz Sheriff, the calving ease specialist. Officer is not a heifer bull but has worked well on our first and second calvers. Glimmer 68L is attractively patterned, parallel in her lines and deep sided, as well as exhibiting a little extra muscle shape. Although a later born heifer she is keeping up with the rest. Her mom, LNS Glimmer 23G, is a Wheatland Circuit Breaker daughter with a perfect udder. 23G raised our high selling bull two years ago that sold to Ash Berwest Farms for $10,500. Quality has been bred into this female through and through.

LNS Hot Tink 85L is a double goggled, little lighter colored heifer. She is long, deep bodied, and balanced from front to back. Hot Tink is a structurally correct, smooth striding female in a larger frame. Her mom, 27z, is an 11 year old cow that comes out of Crossroad Sargent. Sargent made really good uddered and productive females. With 85L’s pedigree you will want this highly productive cow family in your herd!
