One man is facing charges and two others have charges pending after Thompson RCMP seized a large quantity of what are believed to be oxycodone pills during a traffic stop and subsequent house search Feb. 22. The seizure occurred around 4:30 p.m. and led to police obtaining a search warrant for a Juniper Drive residence, which resulted in the seizure of more than 1,400 pills and drug paraphernalia. Matthew Delaronde, 29, was arrested and charged with possessing a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking and failing to comply with court-ordered conditions. A 48-year-old woman and 26-year-old male, both from Thompson, were also arrested and RCMP say charges are pending. The investigation continues.

Nelson House RCMP found a man dead at a residence shortly before midnight Feb. 20 and his death is being investigated as a homicide. Several 911 calls were placed from the residence and police arrived around 11:45 p.m. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene. Nelson House RCMP are investigating with assistance from the RCMP Major Crime Unit as well as Thompson and Winnipeg Forensic Identification Units.

A message sent out to parents by school principal Rob Fisher shortly after 11 a.m. Thursday said the hold and secure situation was over. “The possible threat to our school was unfounded and not confirmed,” said the message. “We are all clear and resuming as usual. We would like to thank the RCMP for their thorough response and our students’ co-operation during the hold and secure.“ The hold and secure situation began shortly before 10 a.m. Three RCMP cruisers and one RCMP pickup truck were parked in the front drop-off loop of the school along Thompson Drive as of 11 a.m. Feb. 21.
