Worker dies at Vale mine in Thompson A man working at a Vale mine in Thompson died Feb. 21, the company says. The worker, who was not named in a Vale Manitoba Operations press release, was employed by an external contractor and working in T3 Mine at the time of his death, which the company said Feb. 22 was not the result of an accident or related to his work. Emergency responders at the scene could not resuscitate the man and he was taken by paramedics to Thompson General Hospital where he was pronounced dead. The cause of the man's death is unknown. Thompson RCMP and the Mine Safety Unit attended the site and the scene has been released. Vale will also investigate the death. “Our thoughts are with the family, coworkers and friends of this individual," said Vale Manitoba Operations head Gary Annett. "We are doing everything we can to support them and to better understand what happened." Vale has offered the services of its Critical Incident Stress Management Team to all individuals that were working in the area, as well as the Vale employees that responded to the scene.
