G LOSSARY 1050 Steel A medium carbon and medium tensile steel with good strength, toughness and wear resistance.

Folding Blade Any knife that allows the blade to be folded into the handle. Forged Used to described non-casted metals.

154CM A high carbon stainless steel.

Frame Lock The frame lock is a variant of the 420HC Steel A high carbon steel known for its liner lock. Instead of using the liner, though, hardness and wear and corrosion resistance. the frame functions as an actual spring. It is usually much more secure than a liner lock. 5CR15MOV A stainless steel widely used in high-end blades.

Friction Lock A secure sliding lock mechanism.

7CR17MOV A stainless steel variant of 440A. Includes more vanadium, offering increased strength, wear resistance and toughness.

G10 A high strength, glass reinforced plastic. Gator Grip A textured grip by Gerber.

Aluminium A non-magnetic metal with a high resistance to corrosion. Lightweight, yet strong.

Glass-Bead Finish A method for smoothing surfaces. Also known to reduce glare and fingerprints on metal surfaces.

Anodised (metals) A method of increasing the natural oxide layer on a metal surface. Increases resistance to corrosion and wear.

Glass-Filled Nylon A material combination that offers increased strength, rigidity and wear-resistance.

Ballistic Nylon A thick, tough fabric that is used in a wide variety of Gerber sheaths.

High Carbon A metal blade with an increased carbon content is known to have increased toughness and better edge retention.

Blasting Cap Crimper Designed to safely attach the cap to an explosive fuse.

Hi-Vis High visibility. Bolster The metal material at the end of a knife Kraton A man-made material resembling handle. Provides added structural support. rubber that can be moulded into knife handles C4 Punch Design to punch holes into C4. or handle parts to offer better gripping ability. Carbide/ Tungsten Carbide Two times stiffer Lashing Holes Strategically placed holes than steel. Known for its toughness, making it found on some knives allowing them to be ideal for use in cutting tools. attach to an object. Cerakote A ceramic coating which increases abrasion resistance, hardness and corrosion resistance. Crew Served Weapons A weapon that requires more than one person to operate or maintain. E-Coat A protective coating. Ferrocerium A man-made material that can produce sparks when struck correctly.

of multi-tool frame making it easier to access. Overmould An injection moulding method for layering one material over another. Pommel The rounded end of a blade handle. Powder-Coated Boron Vastly increases surface resistance and micro-hardness. Quiet Deploy Velcro Quieter than commercial Velcro. RemGrit saw Utilises tungsten carbide grit resulting in a smoother sawing action, whilst being snag & wear resistant. Rite In The Rain Specialised ink cartridges for all weather use. S30V A tough, wear and corrosion resistant metal. Saf.T.Plus Locking mechanism. Serrated/ Semi-Serrated Scallops in the edge that allow a sawing action. Some blades are available in a semi-serrated edge allowing for fine-edge cutting or serrated-edge sawing. Spring-Lock A lock with a spring-loaded bolt. SS 42072 A chromium stainless steel. Stainless Steel A highly stain and corrosion resistant steel.

LED Light Emitting Diode.

Tang The part of the knife that enters the handle and/ or held by the hand. Full tang runs the full length of the handle length and is the strongest format.

Liner Lock A folding knife locking mechanism. A piece of metal that blocks the back of a folding knife blade locking it open.

Titanium-Nitride A material designed for corrosion-resistance, as well as being strong and lightweight.

Lock-Back A folding knife with a lock release on the back of the handle.

Clip Point Where the top of a knife blade slopes inward on the way to the tip.

Lumen Measurement for light.

Machined Refers to Knife blades that are either Fibre Glass Handle A durable handle partially or completely shaped via a machine. reinforced with glass fibres. Always covered with Magpul MOE/ MIAD Gun Grips. an over-mould for increased grip. Malice clip A specialised clip for use with Fine Edge Blade A blade with a fine double M.O.L.L.E systems. or single edge. Metal Striker For striking Ferrocerium rods. Finger Jimping/ choil A ruffled piece of metal M.O.L.L.E Modular Lightweight Load-Carrying found on knives. Designed to aid in stability Equipment. and add grip. Nail Nick A finger nail groove that allows Fixed Blade A knife or blade with a nonsomeone to open a knife. moving sharp edge. Outboard A blade or tool that is on the outside

Drop point The top of the blade slopes outwardly and downwards to the knife tip. Tanto Refers to knives with a high point with a flat grind.
