FOUR ON THE FLOOR A Collaborative

FOUR ON THE FLOOR - the underlying beat, the steady foundation that allows diverse melodies to flourish.

FOUR ARTISTS | FOUR VIEWPOINTS | FOUR DESIGNS

This inaugural collaborative exhibition, debuting during Salone del Mobile 2025, brings together four distinct creative voices from across the Americas to demonstrate how diverse backgrounds and artistic approaches can converge to create something truly extraordinary. Their designs add to the exhibition’s bold exploration of international dialog, further enriching the tapestry of perspectives presented.

The exhibition features a curated selection of torchieres, each piece acting as a physical manifestation of the artist’s unique vision. This shared format provides a common thread throughout the collective, allowing visitors to appreciate the individual artistry while also recognizing the underlying connection between the works. The torchiere, a classic form of lighting design, becomes a canvas for experimentation and innovation, showcasing the diverse possibilities of light and shadow, form and function.

Angela Damman

Angela Damman’s work is inspired by the beauty of native plant fibers and the ancient artisanal traditions of the Maya in Yucatán, Mexico. Since 2012, Angela has been designing art and handcrafted textiles. Her work includes luxury products and limited edition pieces such as chandeliers and furniture made from agaves and sansevieria plant fibers. The pieces are produced at her studio located in a historic hacienda and in collaboration with artisans in neighboring Mayan villages. She cultivates her own plants, including henequen agave, sisalana agave and sansevieria. She extended her materials to include espadin agave (for mezcal) from the fields of Oaxaca.

Angela’s work has been shown in several museums and exhibitions around Mexico and abroad, including the Museo de Arte Popular, Fundación de Artistas, Museo Universitario Arte Contemporáneo MUAC, Museo Franz Mayer, Epiphany Arts Center Chicago, Zona Maco, London Craft Week, Design Miami, Paris Design Week, Object D’Art, FOG Design and Art Fair, Le Tri Postal, and more. She has been featured in various publications including Vogue, Architectural Digest Mexico, Architectural Digest US, New York Times, Times Magazine, Wall Street Journal, Financial Times, Monocle, Departures, L’Officiel Mexico, Manera, Trend Tablet, Selvedge Magazine, Hotbook and Coolhunter, among others. In 2023 she was awarded Sustainable Designer of the Year at the Latin American Design Week in Washington, DC.

FROM THE UNDERWORLD

Cascades of 100% organic natural sansevieiria fiber – hand tied with 1,000 knots to the dark iron inner armature - create an otherworldly texture and glow. Damman’s work is inspired by the beauty of native plant fibers and the ancient myths and traditions of the Maya. This one of a kind piece is designed and produced at her studio, a historic hacienda in Yucatan, and produced from plants she cultivates herself in collaboration with local village artisans.

Thierry Jeannot

Thierry Jeannot (b. 1963) is a French-born designer living in Mexico for the last 20 years. Working across product design, furniture and social design, his focus generates high added value to recycled materials through design. He is interested in traditional techniques and materials and has worked closely with crafts-people both in Paris (back in the 80ies with fashion guru Thierry Mugler) and later with the workshops he discovered in Mexico City. He follows a design philosophy where design and the production process are never separated. In the 1980s he began working with a range of unconventional or ‘outlandish’ materials, like for example acrylics and plastics. For the last 20 years he has been working mainly with the PET bottle as his raw-material. He explores various techniques of using the bottle and to transform its materiality and status to favourable acclaim both in Mexico and The United States. He is also developing home based employment for disadvantaged communities in Mexico City such as women, unemployed, disabled, HIV sufferers et al. More on the social aspects of Thierry’s work see below.

PINÁCULO

“PINÁCULO“ is a stunning floor lamp inspired by Mexico City´s colonial architecture and nature. Designer Thierry Jeannot pays tribute to traditional metalwork-combining brass, bronze and patina. The shade, of oiled parchment goat skins adds warmth and texture. This unique piece blends heritage and modernity, evoking the beauty and excellence of Mexican craftsmanship.

Ann Weber

Ann Weber transforms ordinary cardboard into monumental sculptures, reimagining the possibilities of a humble, everyday material. Weber’s sculptures have a mystery or double meaning, neither entirely representational nor abstract, but something in between. Ann Weber earned a BA in Art History from Purdue University and an MFA from California College of the Arts in San Francisco. She lives and works in San Pedro, near the Port of Los Angeles. In 2018, she was awarded a prestigious PollockKrasner Grant, and her artistic practice has been shaped by residencies at renowned institutions, including the American Academy in Rome, Oberpfälzer Künstlerhaus in Schwandorf, Germany, the International School of Beijing, and the de Young Museum in San Francisco.

Her work has been exhibited at SFMOMA, the Long Beach Museum of Art, Craft Contemporary in Los Angeles, and the Torrance Art Museum, earning critical recognition in Los Angeles Times, Sculpture Magazine, American Craft, and San Francisco Chronicle. Weber’s sculptures are held in both private and public collections, including SFMOMA, the Waldorf Astoria in New York City, and the U.S. Embassy in Eswatini, Africa. Most recently, she completed a series of painted bronze sculptures for a biotech company in the Bay Area.

KOAN

The title is a play on words describing the cone shape of the organic sculpture, a reference to the natural world. A koan is a story or parable taught in Zen Buddhism that can be interpreted in many different ways, just like my sculptures.

Sally Thomas Cooper & Jason Kai Cooper

Creative partners Sally Thomas Cooper and Jason Kai Cooper, long known for fresh, modern lighting for home and hospitality through their ventures Luxe and Lusive, founded Thomas Cooper Studio to explore the material and sculptural essence of lighting.

The Thomas Cooper Studio collection represents a multilayered, multifaceted collaboration between Jason and Sally. Materials and techniques join forces in a search for the inner poetry of each piece: heat-formed, mouth-blown, flash-cracked glass; carved marble, alabaster, and natural stone; cast and hand-patinaed bronze; hand-polished leaded crystal. At the same time, a study of sculptural expression creates a balance between shine and shade, density and delicacy, form and function. Sally Thomas Cooper studied art history, music, and design in her native New Zealand and has worked as an interior designer, production designer, and marketing director for interior products. Jason Kai Cooper studied scenic and lighting design and has worked as a lighting, theatrical, and product designer. The couple have worked together since 1999 and hold Thomas Cooper Studio as the culmination of their shared design passions.
