Volume 19 Issue 18: December 2 2015 From the Principal Dr Watson Advent The Advent wreath will once again take its place in our liturgical celebrations for the next four weeks. The four candles of the wreath represent the four weeks of Advent and each candle light speaks so much of the longing and waiting of our hearts.
Through the birth of Christ, God came among us and is still among us. Yet, often our whole life is like an advent, the time in which God is waiting to be born. During this special time we are invited to look back, forward and around. We look back to every first Christmas when God became one of us. We look forward to Christ’s second coming “in a cloud with power and great glory” with our heads raised high. And we look around to try to be attentive to the people and events that reveal Christ’s presence to us as the Emmanuel – God is with us. Graduation Mass and Dinner Last Friday evening the Class of 2015 and their families gathered at St Mary’s Star of the Sea Church in West Melbourne for the Graduation Mass. This was then followed by the Presentation of the Graduands and Graduation Dinner held at Flemington Racecourse. Fr Jude celebrated the Eucharist with us before each student was presented with their Graduation Certificate and a gift from the College and Parent & Friends Association prior to dinner. I had the pleasure of addressing our graduating class. I have provided below an extract of this address. Good evening Class of 2015, ladies and gentlemen. It is always fitting and appropriate that we mark our significant school occasions by coming together as a community to celebrate the Eucharist. I think you would all agree it was a very fitting and moving Mass to mark the end of our Year 12 student’s time at the College. We have now gathered for our last graduation ceremony the Presentation of Graduands and the Graduation Dinner. This evening provides the opportunity to enjoy each other’s company, reflect on our time as students, parents and teachers of Thomas Carr College and celebrate the conclusion of classes and most recently the end of VCE examinations.

Prayer for Advent As we begin Advent, we want to be renewed in a sense that Jesus came to save us from our sin and death. We want to experience his coming to us now, in our everyday lives, to help us live our lives with meaning and purpose. So, we now begin with our longing, our desire and our hope. Amen
