CARTA EDITORIAL FIESTA DE MATICES San Miguel despliega un mosaico de culturas que han sabido adoptar y evolucionar toda la gama de posturas humanas y filosóficas. Este pueblo ha enmarcado historia, desde las conspiraciones entre Ignacio Allende y Mariano Abasolo por la libertad e independencia de México, hasta la literatura Beat predecesora del movimiento hippie. Parte de la vida de William Burroughs, Jack Kerouac y la muerte de Neal Cassady se sucitaron aquí. Tierra de grandes escritores que visitaban la cantina “La Cuca” en su edad de oro como Gary Jennings quien escribió aquí su emblemática novela “Azteca”, además de Irving Stone y Charles Portis, que se inspiró para escribir “True Grit”. Vivir en San Miguel crea un carácter muy conquistador. Exige elevarnos de nuestra ordinaria cotidianidad; es difícil fingir o pretender esnobismos, el karma se acelera y no hay medias tintas, o conquistas esta tierra o te deja fuera de la jugada. Y qué decir de su gente, un poder vital que derrocha magia, que le da la autenticidad a esta tierra con sus tradiciones y artesanías. Sin ellos, no habría danzas, cuetes ni mariachis. El arquitecto más diestro no podría haber levantado cualquier esquina de este pueblo, ni labrado sus puertas, ni cincelado sus canteras. Son las manos artesanas y las mentes espirituales que le dan los matices a éste el mejor destino del mundo. San Miguel es la presencia magna de la diversidad cultural y expresión artística; Anthony Quinn, Cantinflas, Pedro Vargas, Walt Disney, Deborah Turbeville, Diego Rivera, y la lista continúa… ¡Feliz Visita!

Con una trayectoria de más de 20 años como arquitecta, Nicole Bisgaard ha diseñado y construído una amplia variedad de proyectos residenciales y comerciales en San Miguel de Allende, Querétaro y CDMX. Su trabajo inlcuye lujosas casas de campo, complejas remodelaciones y restauración a grandes casas históricas. Nicole nació y creció en México, con descendencia danesa y americana. Antes de ser arquitecta, estudió escultura y fue curadora del Museo de Arte de Querétaro. Su bagaje artístico y multicultural, le da una perspectiva para entender de mejor manera las necesidades de las personas, y para inspirarse desde una amplia gama de ideas creativas. otoño 2017

With a career in architecture spanning over 14 years, Nicole Bisgaard has designed and built a wide variety of residential and commercial projects in Mexico City, Querétaro and San Miguel de Allende. Her work includes new countryside homes, the restoration of historic mansions and complete renovations. Of Danish and American descent, Nicole was born and raised in Mexico. Before becoming an architect, she studied sculpture and worked as curator at the Art Museum of Querétaro. Given her multicultural and artistic background, she has a fresh perspective, enabling her to pinpoint people’s needs and to draw on a range of creative ideas.

¿Cómo describes tu estilo de arquitectura? Tengo claramente dos vertientes, la tradicional y la contemporánea. A pesar de que son dos estilos diferentes, reflejan mis gustos que son muy variados y son parte de mi expresión personal. Finalmente, a uno le puede gustar la música clásica, ¡pero también el jazz o la salsa! La arquitectura es una forma de expresión y podemos hacer un paralelismo entre los “estilos” y los idiomas, cada uno tiene su carácter y poética particular; un idioma puede prestarse a expresar ciertas ideas mejor que otro. Siento que a los clientes les agrada trabajar conmigo porque soy una persona abierta y se me facilita interpretar la visión que tienen de su proyecto, para hacerlo realidad de manera funcional y estética. ¿Qué te inspira como arquitecta? Tengo la creencia de que el origen de inspiración de todo artista es la naturaleza. Allí encontramos la fuente de todo: color, ritmo, forma, proporción, escala, textura, reflejo y luz. El arquitecto utiliza todos estos elementos, los interpreta y estiliza, convirtiéndolos en símbolos personales o universales para plasmar en su obra y crear una extensión de la naturaleza. Un ejemplo de esto es la proporción áurea que está presente en un caracol, un helecho, en el crecimiento de los cristales y de todos los seres vivos. Desde la antigüedad se descubrió esta proporción y se ha aplicado al arte y a la arquitectura.

¿En la arquitectura hay tendencias? Definitivamente, siempre han habido tendencias a lo largo de la historia de la arquitectura, con el paso del tiempo se consolidan, validan, y se vuelven estilos. Hay dos que podría identificar en la actualidad. La primera está asociada con el desarrollo sustentable, la promoción de un estilo de vida saludable y la protección del planeta. Los materiales y técnicas “verdes” muchas veces van a determinar una nueva estética. Uno de mis propósitos como arquitecta es sumarme cada vez más a esta tendencia. La otra que se ve presente en ámbitos creativos como la gastronomía, la música, y obviamente la arquitectura, es la fusión y el mestizaje de culturas y sus elementos.

Arquitectónicamente hablando, ¿cuál es tu lugar favorito en el mundo? Copenhague. Es una ciudad bien planeada desde el punto de vista urbano, con muchos parques, vialidades y medios de transporte muy eficientes. Logra la integración de la arquitectura tradicional con la contemporánea de vanguardia, generando una gran diversidad de ambientes. Es una ciudad que para el 2025 planea ser “carbon neutral”. Tiene además un valor sentimental para mí, pues viví un par de años ahí y es parte de mis raíces. ¡Lástima del clima! ¿Y en México? San Miguel de Allende.

¿Quién es tu artista plástico favorito? Mark Rothko en pintura y Bárbara Hepworth en escultura. ¿Cuál es tu personaje histórico favorito? Leonardo da Vinci. Además de la arquitectura, ¿qué te apasiona? Las artes marciales. Practico Taekwondo, Haedong Kumdo y Aikido. ¿Cuál es tu lema? “Make it happen” ¿Cuál es tu restaurante predilecto en San Miguel de Allende? The Restaurant.

What is your motto? “Make it happen.” Which is your favorite restaurant in San Miguel de Allende? The Restaurant

How would you describe your style of architecture? There are two main axes: the traditional and the contemporary. Despite being on opposite ends of the spectrum, they are part of my artistic expression and reflect my personal taste, which is very diverse. One can love classical music, but still enjoy jazz and salsa! Architecture is a form of expression and we can make a parallel between styles and languages, since each one has its particular characteristics and poetry. One language can express certain ideas better than another. I believe that clients enjoy working with me because I am open and have the ability to interpret their vision and transform their project into a reality that is both aesthetic and functional. What inspires you as an architect? For all artists, inspiration can be found in nature. It is where everything can be found: color, shape, texture, rhythm, proportion, light and reflection. Architects use all of these elements. They interpret and stylize them in order to transform them into personal or universal symbols and convey these elements through their work. As a result, they create an extension of nature. An example is the golden ratio found in snail shells, fern fiddleheads, crystal structures—in fact, it exists in all living creatures. It was discovered in ancient times and has been applied to art and architecture ever since. Are there trends in architecture? Of course, there have been trends throughout the history of architecture. Forms emerge and develop, and over time, they become consolidated and labeled as a particular style. There are two contemporary styles that come to mind. The first has to do with sustainable development: building a structure that preserves and protects the planet. “Green” materials and techniques often lead to new aesthetics, and one of my goals as an architect is to steadily move toward increased sustainability. The second trend is seen in creative contexts, like gastronomy, music, and obviously, architecture: it is the juxtaposition and fusion of different cultural elements. Architecturally speaking, which is your favorite place in the world? Copenhagen. From an urban perspective, it is a very well-planned city with lots of parks, good roads and an efficient transportation system. It has succeeded in integrating traditional with ultramodern architecture, producing a wide assortment of spaces. The city also plans to be “carbon neutral” by 2025. For me, there is also the sentimental side. I lived there for a couple of years and it is part of my roots. Pity about the climate though! And in Mexico? San Miguel de Allende

¿Hay algún patrón repetitivo en tus creaciones? Definitivamente, hay materiales que utilizo repetitivamente y que marcan mi estilo personal, como cantera, madera, piedra, y algunos elementos decorativos. Formalmente, me gustan los volumenes horizontales y las espirales.

Are there repeated patterns in your creations? There are a number of materials I use all the time, which reflect my personal style, such as wood, stone and cantera, in addition to a few decorative motifs. In terms of form, I like horizontal shapes and spirals.

¿Cuál es tu color favorito? El azul en todas sus tonalidades. También me gusta mucho la combinación de blanco y negro.

What is your favorite color? Blue in every shade. I also like the combination of black and white.

Si tuvieras que elegir otra profesión, ¿cuál sería? Bióloga, aprecio tanto la naturaleza de manera estética, que me gustaría entender mejor su funcionamiento.

If you had to choose another profession, which would it be? Biology. I admire the aesthetics of nature and I would love to gain a better understanding of how it works.
