Clevelander Tips

In Cleveland, “soda” is referred to as “pop.” If you hear “Burning River” or “Holy Moses,” it’s just someone ordering a craft beer made locally by Great Lakes Brewing Company. Many Clevelanders identify themselves as being either eastsiders or westsiders (the division being the Cuyahoga River), but all seem to claim downtown.

History

U.S. Customs

The United States Customs and Border Protection Agency provides inspection services for international passengers who arrive at Cleveland Hopkins International Airport. The Agency is located on the ramp level of Concourse A, across from Gate #5.

Public Transportation

The Greater Cleveland Regional Transit Authority (RTA) provides public transportation in the City of Cleveland and 59 surrounding municipalities. RTA's commuter lines consist of both bus and rapid transit service, plus a convenient Downtown trolley loop system.

A Welcome Hub for newcomers seeking information and services is located in the Huntington National Bank Building at 200 Public Square. Look for their entrance off Euclid Avenue.

Weather

Cleveland experiences all four seasons. Winter temperatures are generally within 20 to 40 degrees. Maybe you’ve heard the term “lake effect snow?” Spring could be a balmy 70 during the day, then drop to 45 degrees at night. Summer, we love it, and its perfect 80 degrees. Technically summer is over, but don’t tell Fall. The first cold blast usually hits sometime in November.

Cleveland has a proud history that is 230 years in the making. General Moses Cleaveland of the Connecticut Land Company came to the Western Reserve and founded the City of Cleveland in 1796. The name changed to its current spelling in 1831 when the “a” was dropped in order to fit the city’s name on a newspaper masthead.

Fun Facts

Cleveland is the home of Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster, the creators of Superman, as well as a filming location for major motion pictures, including “A Christmas Story,” “The Avengers” and “Captain America: The Winter Soldier.” Oscar winners Paul Newman and Halle Berry hail from the region. So does Hall of Fame guitarist Joe Walsh, who honed his craft with The James Gang in the 1970s with the popular single “Funk #49.” LifeSavers candy, the modern golf ball and the electric streetlight are all Cleveland firsts invented right here in Cleveland.

Location + Population

Cleveland, located in the Eastern Standard Time Zone (EST) in the State of Ohio within Cuyahoga County, is on the southern shore of Lake Erie, part of the Great Lakes Region.

Cleveland-Akron-Canton comprises the 17th largest combined metro area in the United States with more than 3.7 million residents in the Greater Cleveland combined statistical area (CSA) and nearly 400,000 in the City of Cleveland.

Business

Cleveland has a $275 billion annual economy and is home to a number of companies that are on Fortune magazine’s list of the top 500 industrial and top 500 service companies in the United States, including KeyCorp, Sherwin-Williams, Eaton Corp and Progressive Insurance.

MADE IN CLEVELAND

Icons, ideas and moments that shaped America’s first 250 years

Straight Outta Cleveland

It may sound like a radio station tagline, but it’s true: Cleveland’s been churning out top music hits from the 1950s to today. From the smooth doo-wop of the Moonglows to the hard-hitting industrial rock of Nine Inch Nails, the Land and nearby Akron boast an impressive array of homegrown sounds.

No list of hometown music heroes would be complete without the rap trifecta of Machine Gun Kelly (who unites Clevelanders annually with his MGK Day celebration), Kid Cudi (known for his local ode “Cleveland is the Reason”) and Bone Thugs-NHarmony (who have their own same-named street at East 99th Street and St. Clair Avenue as the result of a successful fan petition). Also on the home team: The James Gang, The Raspberries, Dead Boys, The Pretenders and so many more.

PLAY BALL!

On April 25, 1901, the Cleveland Blues took the field for the first game in American League history. Now known as the Guardians, they’re the oldest of our city’s three major league teams and remain an integral part of summer—be it at League Park, Cleveland Stadium or the team’s current home, Progressive Field. Equally beloved is Bertman’s Original Ball Park Mustard , a Cleveland original first served to sports fans in 1921. No hot dog is complete without it.

Big Ideas Born in CLE

GREAT SCOTT! CLEVELANDERS CHANGED EVERYDAY LIFE

1

The Haskell Golf Ball

Your drive would drop short if not for Coburn Haskell. His rubber wound golf ball (1898) replaced balls stuffed with feathers or gum resin and redefined how far a swing could carry. Fore!

2

The Arc Lamp

Before Thomas Edison went incandescent, Charles Brush pioneered electric lighting, illuminating Cleveland’s streets in 1879 and lighting up metropolises worldwide soon after. An ornate arc lamp fixture still glows at 127 Public Square.

3

Life Savers

Conceived in 1912 as a melt-proof “summer candy,” these ring-shaped classics—beloved for their rainbow of fruit flavors—have come many nautical miles from inventor Clarence Crane’s original “Pep-O-Mint” offering.

4

The Three-Way Traffic Signal

Slow your roll to appreciate Garrett Morgan, the Black inventor who made navigating city streets safer at the dawn of the automobile. His three-way traffic signal (1923) greenlighted modern accident prevention.

5 5

The Modern Alkaline Battery

Your devices keep going and going thanks to Canadian scientist Lewis Urry, who relocated to Cleveland and revolutionized battery technology at Eveready. His 1959 alkaline battery still powers your favorite tools and toys.

Making Waves

Across the city, Cleveland is advancing its decades-long vision for a vibrant, interconnected waterfront. The brainchild of Mayor Justin Bibb, the $5 billion Shore-to-Core-toShore project will link our riverfront, lakefront and downtown core. North Coast Harbor is a key piece of this reimagined future, blending lakefront access with multi-modal transit and refined urban living. Get a glimpse of what’s ahead at the pocket park, North Coast Yard Momentum continues with the North Coast Connector, set to break ground in 2027. This six-acre land bridge will connect Downtown directly to Lake Erie. Nearby, Irishtown Bend Park — a 25-acre greenspace in Ohio City — is well underway, offering sweeping panoramas of the Cuyahoga River and the city skyline. Progress also continues on the Cleveland Clinic Global Peak Performance Center, part of Bedrock’s $3.5 billion “The Riverfront” development along the Cuyahoga River below Tower City and Rocket Arena.

Neon nights and starry skies — Cleveland lights up the night

HELLO CITY

As the sun sets, Cleveland really starts to sparkle. The nightly Illuminate CLE light shows bring Public Square to life—bathing icons like Terminal Tower and Old Stone Church in vibrant, shifting projections. It’s just one more way to appreciate Cleveland’s stunning skyline, in addition to amazing vantage points such as Voinovich Park, Edgewater Park and Tremont Overlook. Nightfall looks good on The Land.

ART AFTER-HOURS

Culture lights up the night at Cleveland Museum of Art’s annual Solstice bash. Live bands and DJs provide an electrifying soundtrack as guests party on the South Terrace and browse art galleries. (CMA keeps the party going throughout the year with themed MIX events, too.) Throughout the summer, the annual Asian Lantern Festival also creates plenty of mega-watt moments inside the Cleveland Metroparks Zoo.

A SKY FULL OF STARS

Boasting official Dark Sky cred, Observatory Park in Geauga delivers a vivid nighttime canvas of cosmic light and color. In the Metroparks, stroll along the Rocky River Reservation’s All Purpose Trail for an epic-but-educational trip through our solar system with planet markers lining the path, or take a “Nature at Night” after-hours hike across town at North Chagrin Nature Center.

RETRO REVERIE

Pile the whole family into the car and motor over to North Ridgeville’s delightfully retro Aut-O-Rama Twin Drive-In for first-run flicks under a blanket of stars. Feeling more athletically inclined? BEACH DAYS

There’s

Ohio’s Lake Erie shoreline spans 312 miles—and we think Greater Cleveland’s beaches are the best of the bunch. Tip back with a cold cocktail at the beach house and watch the sailboats cruise by at Edgewater Park , or soak up the sun at Ohio’s largest beach, Headlands Beach State Park . History reigns at Euclid Beach, once home to a legendary amusement park and now the site of a 650-foot beach and scenic pier (etched with rollercoasters as a nod to its former life). At Huntington Beach, the drive-in boat launch and swimming beach tucked at the bottom of a cliff make this a summer staple.

A LAKE ERIE LIFE

dventure arrives at all speeds at Great Lakes Watersports. Zip around the shoreline on a jet ski or soar the skies on a parasailing flight. (For those who prefer to putter, pontoon and kayak rentals are also available.) For further kayak fun, launch at 41° North Coastal Adventures and marvel at dramatic bluffs along the Rocky River.

Angling to hook prize walleye? Hop aboard Strikemaster Charters to net Lake Erie monsters—no fish stories necessary, thanks to a 100% catch rate. And don’t sleep on waterside

Wendy Park, a centrally located recreation hotspot and nature oasis. Stroll to the historic Coast Guard Station for lighthouse views, enjoy epic birding or spike and serve in the sand volleyball courts. For a blazingly beautiful end to your day, take in a Technicolor sunset at The Solstice Steps at Lakewood Park.

The Cuyahoga River’s come a long way since an oil slick fire sparked the Clean Water Act in 1972. Today our reinvigorated river is recognized as a National Water Trail.

BEAVER MARSH

A birder’s paradise, this former junkyard became a vibrant wetland when beavers returned after a 150-year absence. You’ll see plenty of them at work in the marsh, alongside wildlife such as turtles, ducks and frogs.

Fort Hill

Nature’s artistry steals the show at Brecksville Reservation’s Deer Lick Cave. Spoiler alert: it’s not actually a cave at all, but rather a striking rock overhang sculpted by erosion. Follow Tinkers Creek in the Cleveland Metroparks. Expect waterfall detours, trails and a creekside soundtrack. It’s nature’s way of deleting your to-do list.

Claim a spot at the Solstice Steps in Lakewood Park. Watch the sun melt into Lake Erie. No boots required, just snacks and friends.

Hike to Kendall Ledges in Cuyahoga Valley National Park. Catch the sunset above the trees, with earned views, quiet moments and a big payoff.

Game Day

Sports make Cleveland go round

CLEVELAND GUARDIANS

The Guardians rallied from a historic deficit to win their second straight American League Central title in 2025. Led by perennial MVP candidate Jose Ramirez (fresh off signing an extension that should keep him in Cleveland through 2032), the Guardians look forward to another contending season. Watch it all from Progressive Field, where $200 million worth of improvements includes new seats and a continued commitment to local food—including a new concession stand featuring Tremont’s STEAK.

CLEVELAND BROWNS

Win or lose, Browns games are always an event. In addition to

division opponents—the Ravens, Steelers and Bengals—the Browns will have home games against the Indianapolis Colts, Atlanta Falcons, Carolina Panthers, Las Vegas Raiders and Houston Texans. Spectators will also get a chance to see Carson Schwesinger (2025 Defensive Rookie of the Year) and Myles Garrett, who won his second Defensive Player of the Year award and set the season record for quarterback sacks.

CLEVELAND CAVALIERS

The Cavs brought in some new faces at the trade deadline—most notably James “The Beard” Harden, but also Keon Ellis and Dennis Schroder. The Cavs hope to make some noise

in the wide-open NBA Eastern Conference, and what better way to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the team’s 2016 title than another run to the Finals? Make room, Lebron…there’s a few more Kings coming to the court.

CLEVELAND MONSTERS

For many years, Cleveland was known as a premier hockey city, and that fandom remains with the Monsters, the AHL affiliate of the Columbus Blue Jackets. In addition to the adrenaline rush of live hockey, Monsters games provide a unique chance to see players before they get famous. (A total of 10 former Monsters players competed in Italy this year at the Winter Olympics!)

CLEVELAND CHARGE

The Cavs aren’t Cleveland’s only basketball team—as the Cavs’ G-League affiliate, Cleveland Charge is stacked with players on the rise. Spectators last season got a chance to see future Cavs star Jaylon Tyson kill it on the court!

MUSIC REVOLUTION

The heart of Rock ‘n’ Roll is beating louder than ever

The House That Rock Built

Stodgy museums, step to the side:

The glass- enclosed Rock & Roll Hall of Fame is a hip-shaking, guitar-flinging reminder of why Cleveland is ground zero for world-famous music. Memorabilia immortalizes the radio DJs and recording artists who invented the genre, while special galleries honor those who paved the way (such as Cleveland native Leo Mintz, the former Record Rendezvous owner largely considered one of the founding fathers of rock). And much like rock-and-roll itself, the multi-level museum just keeps on evolving.

STAY CLASS-Y

Before a new class rules the school, catch the Class of 2025 inductee exhibit—spotlighting colorful artifacts from Cyndi Lauper, Soundgarden, Bad Company and more.

Eye-popping clothes take center stage, with highlights such as André 3000’s Beatlesinspired outfit from OutKast’s “Hey Ya!” video; the snazzy suits Meg and Jack White wore on the cover of the White Stripes’ Icky Thump; and the iconic custom jackets from Salt-N-Pepa’s “Push It” video.

MORE MACCA, PLEASE

Fresh off the “Got Back” tour, Paul McCartney’s on a hot streak—thanks to the documentary Man On The Run and a forthcoming biopic starring Paul Mescal. Now comes another high-profile event: the first major museum exhibit to explore the story of his post-Beatles band Wings. Open at the Rock Hall since May, “Paul McCartney and Wings” features rare artifacts from Macca’s personal archives, plus donations from band members and associates.

Did You Know?

Local radio DJ Alan Freed is credited with playing rhythm and blues records on air and coining the term “rock ‘n’ roll” in the 1950s.

FOR THE RECORD

Don’t call it a [vinyl] comeback— Cleveland’s record shops have been around for years. Get your indie cred at Mind’s Eye Records in Lakewood, where the racks are stacked with punk, metal and rock albums. Take a listen before locking in your purchase at Ohio City’s Hausfrau, or tread on classics atop an LP-covered floor at Waterloo’s Blue Arrow

A checkerboard floor and good vibes welcome you into Vinyl Groove Records, aka the “friendly record store” with 50,000+ records in stock at its new Old Brooklyn location. They can also repair and restore your old favorites to their former groovy glory if needed!

In Parma, The Current Year is focused on creating the next-gen record store experience with a Substack wall and a painstakingly curated selection of everything from polka to exotica. (After you browse, grab a sweet treat next door at Rudy’s Strudel!)

DOWNTOWN BEATS

Groove your way Downtown for this year’s various summer music series—which run June through October with local talent, free shows and unlimited vibes. Revel in the rhythms of the East 4th Live Music Series, or let the Playhouse Square Plaza pop-up shows give you that muchneeded lunchtime lift. Pushing boundaries is the prime directive of BorderLight Theatre Festival (July 8-11). Last year’s edition attracted nearly 4,400 attendees to 150+ performances, and this year’s edition is sure to follow suit! This genre-defying showcase takes over the Playhouse Square district with a diverse lineup of dance, theatre, immersive experiences and more.

INGENUITYFEST

Live from Cleveland

Beneath the glow of the iconic 20-foot-tall G.E. Chandelier, Playhouse Square shines bright as the second largest performing arts center in the country outside of NYC. The district spans nine historic theaters and an array of options for pre-dinner and drinks— including newer additions such as The Friar’s Table and Encore Playhouse Square’s spring and summer lineup promises to be equally compelling, with music icon David Byrne kicking off the season with his “Who Is the Sky” tour on May 7. Cleveland Ballet will enchant audiences with “Cinderella” (May 15-17), while Cleveland Play House brings the beloved Rodman Philbrick novel “Freak The Mighty” to the stage May 22 through June 21. And don’t miss the KeyBank Broadway Series with touring productions of “The Outsiders,” “The Great Gatsby” and “The Lion King” from April through August.

BELOVED, THEN AND NOW

Through February 2027, Ohio is writing a love letter of sorts to literary giant Toni Morrison with a yearlong statewide celebration. A Lorain native, Morrison was not only a Pulitzer Prize recipient, but also the first Black female Nobel Prize winner—leaving a legacy of critically acclaimed works such as Beloved and Song of Solomon. Led by Literary Cleveland and several partner organizations, the celebration has libraries, organizations and arts groups across the state catching fire with an event lineup honoring the historical trendsetter.

From sidewalks to spotlights, art fills the city.

We’ve been able to really become the center I feel our founders had envisioned.

CREATIVES

LETITIA LOPEZ

Executive Director Julia de Burgos Cultural Arts Center

We’ve been able to really become the center I feel our founders had envisioned.

In 2008, Letitia Lopez felt disconnected from her Puerto Rican heritage. She convinced her corporate employer to rent a car for her to ride in Cleveland’s annual Puerto Rican parade. Inspired to reignite her roots, Lopez began volunteering with the Julia De Burgos Cultural Arts Center, a non-profit promoting Latino culture and heritage through the arts. Soon she joined the Board of Trustees, eventually leaving her corporate role to become Executive Director.

Under Lopez’s leadership, the Brooklyn Centre-based center has seen enormous growth— moving into its permanent home in 2018 and expanding its class and activity offerings. What was originally meant to reconnect Lopez with her own cultural identity has bloomed into the chance to build a community space that helps others do the same. “We’ve been able to really become the center I feel our founders had envisioned,” says Lopez.

From steaks to seafood, Downtown is the place for a stellar sit-down dining experience. For the former, don’t miss the Marble Room—where the towering marble columns and ornate coffered ceiling evoke the feeling of a bygone era. For the latter, trendy Acqua Di Dea transports you straight to the Mediterranean by serving some of the best seafood in town.

Also bringing Mediterranean flair and flavor is Il Venetian, modernizing Italian favorites and boasting a hard-to-rival wine selection with 200+ options. James Beard semifinalist Mallorca delivers chef-forward and allergenfriendly Spanish and Portuguese plates.

If you’re more into exploring your Midwestern roots, don’t miss fellow James Beard darling Cordelia with upgraded family recipes celebrating seasonality and ingredients sourced from local farms. And for a sushi feast, point your chopsticks toward Sushi En for mouth-watering maki and sashimi. (Order the sushi boat for yourself; we won’t tell.)

Lake Erie perch and walleye are a popular staple all summer long. Nosh on walleye cakes at Zanzibar Soul Fusion, or visit Flat Iron Café for Angel’s Lake Perch. Another bona fide Cleveland classic is the Polish Boy sandwich— topped with fries, barbecue sauce and slaw and perfected by local spots such as Mabel’s BBQ and Mt. Pleasant Bar-B-Q. And cassata cake may be straight outta Sicily, but Cleveland has created its own take with yellow cake, custard, strawberries and whipped cream. (Taste the difference at Corbo’s Bakery in Little Italy or Colozza’s Baker in Parma.)

Wander to the Flats East Bank for a coveted spot on Collision Bend Brewing Company’s sprawling riverside patio. A few doors down, Alley Cat Oyster Bar slings slurpable shellfish and a panorama of the Cuyahoga from its upstairs decks. Around the bend, Merwin’s Wharf provides a relaxing perch for watching river traffic—from 600-foot ore freighters to the rowing sculls and dragon boats that launch from nearby docks. Nonstop Nashville party vibes rule at Jolene’s Honky Tonk , where the “barstools” are swings suspended from the ceiling and the Gateway rooftop fun provides a healthy dose of FOMO for the crowds down on East 4th Street. Academia, rich culture and medical excellence meet in University Circle, which boasts 550 acres worth of lush greenspace woven among acclaimed museums and institutions. Ranked among Forbes’ “America’s Prettiest Neighborhoods,” there are few better—or more appealing—places to learn and grow.

Access is also important in University Circle, with Cleveland Institute of Music walking the walk by lowering tuition by 15 percent back in 2017. Case Western Reserve University continues to be leading-edge, having been ranked second in Ohio by U.S. News & World Report for 2026.

Leading the list are Cleveland Clinic (ranked #3 on Newsweek’s “World’s Best Hospitals” list for seven years running) and University Hospitals (known for Rainbow Babies & Children’s Hospital and Seidman Cancer Center).

DOWNTOWNCLEVELAND

TASTE

From sunrise to sundown, the Downtown dining scene is ready to make your day. Wake up at Phoenix Coffee, or take a leisurely brunch at Betts inside the Kimpton Schofield Hotel. (Grab-and-go options are also available if you’re headed to a Guardians game. Win-win.)

For lunch, go find out why Johnny’s Little Bar is one of Cleveland’s best kept secrets, or hit the new Good Pizza location for a gooey pizza pie.

Cleveland is a city with world-class experiences without the world-class ego.

Once dinner hits, let your taste buds lead the way to buzzy spots like Goma (sushi); Marble Room (steaks and seafood); Acqua Di Dea (Mediterranean cuisine); Taza (Labenese); or Butcher & The Brewer (brewpub). End the day with a “cheers” at always-busy (and rightfully so) Masthead Brewing Co.

SHOP

Cleveland has “retail therapy” written all over the city. Start at Cleveland Clothing Co., where it’s always tee time. Show off your Cleveland pride—and instill some in others— by gifting souvenirs people actually want. Just down the street, make pour decisions at Heinen’s wine tasting machines, or grab some organic produce or a gourmet readymade dish.

Not in the mood for food? Inside the 5th Street Arcades , DIY inspo abounds at Coco’s Selfie Space, while Intro Boutique stocks affordable contemporary and business-casual options with accessories to match. Tower City’s revival offers head-turning couture pieces from Infinite Boutique; statement bags in every color from In My Bag Collection; and luxury sneakers for men at The Feet Geeks.

PLAY

All three of Cleveland’s pro sports teams do their thing here—cheer on the Cavs at Rocket Arena , or get a doubleheader of Guardians baseball in at Progressive Field during baseball season. (You can also tailgate at Huntington Bank Field come football season.)

More into shows over sports? Playhouse Square is your spot for Broadway shows, while House of Blues attracts national acts with a side of Southern-inspired food. Fun is the name of the game in The Flats, with a lively row of riverfront restaurants and nightclubs. Bet on a good time at JACK Casino, or taste your way down East 4th Street with a nightcap at comedy club Pickwick & Frolic

For family-friendly fare, look no further than the Greater Cleveland Aquarium, Rock & Roll Hall of Fame and Great Lakes Science Center.

What started in a Cleveland basement is now a successful T-shirt and souvenir shop showcasing city pride at four Northeast Ohio locations.

MUST-SEE DOWNTOWN

1 See history on Public Square.

2 Raise a glass and share bites at Cordelia.

3 Grab a spot for lakeside concerts.

4 Cheer on the Guardians at Progressive Field.

5 Savor rooftop cocktails at The Garden of Eden.

Neighborhoods Map

CLARK-FULTON

ne of Cleveland’s most beloved murals proclaims “It’s Up to Us” at the gateway of Clark Avenue and West 25th Street—and this neighborhood has taken that to heart with ongoing revitalization efforts. As the city’s largest Hispanic and Latino hub, the Clark-Fulton area stays ever-alive with cultural vibrancy by centering Latino-owned businesses.

See (and taste) for yourself at local favorites such as Pupuseria La Bendicion , or dance the night away at Club Alma Yaucana and San Lorenzo Club. The annual Puerto Rican Parade is also a jubilant display of cultural pride, culminating at Quad Park on the MetroHealth campus.

Say “sí” to Clark-Fulton’s culinary scene. Home to the city’s largest population of Hispanic and Latino immigrants, the neighborhood offers easy access to Salvadoran specialties at Pupuseria y Antojitos Guanaquitas, Puerto Rican sweets at Caribe Bake Shop and Las Villas Deli & Pastries and Mexican classics at Las Dos Fronteras. Looking to transport your taste buds to the Old Country? Al fresco dining at 102-year-old Johnny’s on Fulton offers a taste of Northern Italy. Former Cleveland Browns executive chef Bruno DiSiena marks 30 years in business at Bruno’s Ristorante, where handmade pasta reflects the flavors of Lazio.

CREATIVE PULSE

Cleveland’s Clark-Fulton neighborhood is swiftly becoming the gathering place for artists, book lovers and makers. See for yourself at the Pivot Center for Art, Dance, and Expression, a former factory-turnedcreative haven that plays home to Inlet Dance Theatre, LatinUS Theater Company and a Community Arts Center with drop-in artmaking. Cleveland makers also share space at the Hildebrandt Building —from ceramicists, woodworkers and glassblowers to food entrepreneurs and chefs. (Artists such as florist Kate Rutter and potter Bette Drake call it home.)

And if you need to escape into a good book(shop), visit Zubal Books. This family-owned bookstore contains 25,000 titles covering art, photography, the occult and philosophy (with most priced at $5). Specializing rare out-of-print books and vintage magazines, this store is appointment-only, but it’s worth the effort.

EAT, SHOP, GATHER

It’s all love when you step into the doors of Centrovilla25 —in the way small business owners show up and food entrepreneurs show out. Sip Puerto Rican-sourced coffee at Café Roig alongside hearty Cuban ropa vieja from Sazón Latino. Post-meal, Vintage and Vaina will take you into a time machine with nostalgic collectibles, or stop by Mine Jewelry for gem and sea glass jewelry (perfect for gifting…or keeping for yourself!).

Along with plenty of ways to shop and savor, this lively cultural hub serves as the heart of Clark-Fulton. Gather in the outdoor plaza, host a meeting in their event space or create a culinary masterpiece in their commercial kitchen.

Local Tip

Two Hispanic poets created forums to showcase local Latino talent. On Sunday nights, Dunlap’s Corner Bar in Clark-Fulton is home to the Con Tú Variety Show, co-hosted by Stephanie Ginese and TJ Maclin.

MUST-SEE CLARK -FULTON

1 Join the Puerto Rican Parade tradition.

2 Step into art at the Pivot Center.

3 Toast something big at Johnny’s Bar.

4 Go on, bite into a Cuban at Caribe Bakery.

OHIO CITY

Foodies and fans of craft beer call Ohio City’s Market District their urban oasis. Just across the Cuyahoga River, west of Downtown, the city’s yellow-bricked West Side Market has been home to haggle-friendly meat, seafood and veggie vendors for more than 100 years, but it’s Ohio City’s Victorian-era homes, boutique eateries and famous craft brewers (like Great Lakes Brewing Co.) that have made the neighborhood one of the city’s symbols for urban renewal (where hip meets heritage). But its coolest locale might by the entrepreneurial and artsy district of Hingetown. And let’s not forget the new kid on the block: INTRO, a massive 297-unit apartment complex with a rooftop pool and instant hotspots like modern steakhouse Jaja

1. Raise the roof for Market Garden Brewery! Its rooftop bar, Canopy, features a 49-seat patio with city views and satisfying brews.

2. Ooh, la, la! Brunch at Le Petit Triangle Café is très délicieux, featuring notable nibbles like Blood Orange Marmalade French Toast and the Ratatouille Crepe.

3. Visit Mitchell’s flagship Ohio City location to see where the magic happens while tasting cult favorites like Black Raspberry Chocolate Chunk.

his blue-collar neighborhood balances Cleveland’s big city feel with cozy, small town charm. Minutes from Downtown, Tremont is one of Cleveland’s oldest communities, and for all we know, might just be stuck in time. Just look at those old cottages, bygone neighborhood bars, beautiful churches and cordial local characters. Look closer and notice those come-as-you-are bars are sandwiched between Food Network-famous restaurants, modern housing, art galleries and even a pop culture monument ( House from A Christmas Story and Museum).

Diverse dining thrives in this west side neighborhood. If you’ve got a sweet tooth, grab donuts at Jack Frost, then refuel with coffee at Metropolitan Coffee. Feeling global? Historic buildings have found thriving new life in MidTown—where the Stager-Beckwith Mansion now houses the Children’s Museum of Cleveland, and music venues like the 1913-built Agora Theatre have undergone rocking renovations. MidTown is also home to the city’s oldest building still standing: Dunham Tavern. There’s also plenty of shiny new buildings dotting its streetscape, such as the MidTown Collaboration Center, housing Black Frog Brewery and jazz club Sixty6Lounge

FAIRFAX

Amid the neighborhood’s rapidly changing landscape thanks to ongoing development by the Cleveland Clinic, Fairfax remains rooted in tradition. Theatre fans can catch a show at Karamu House (the country’s oldest African American theater still in existence), while architecture buffs will want to take in the area’s historic churches. On the foodie front, stop by Angie’s Soul Food Café for real-deal Southern soul food or Central Kitchen’s local food hub.

ST. CLAIR/SUPERIOR

People from all walks of life come together in St. Clair Superior to form an amazing community — one rich with manufacturing, art and design, singular shopping experiences and unparalleled dining options. (Cases in point: Kafela and Marie’s Restaurant .) Artists-in-waiting can find their sweet spot at the Hamilton Collaborative complex, home to woodworking workshop Soulcraft CLE , reuse hub Rebuilders Xchange and more.

Raise a glass at Chateau Hough, a community-minded, one-of-a-kind urban winery. Just leave time for Larchmere Boulevard, Cleveland’s art and antiques district (with fine folks like Loganberry Books, Poppy and Batuqui Brazilian).
