Discos Tell Buhari to Sit Up over Power Supply Say companies no longer responsible for meters Give conditions for stability in electricity supply

Chineme Okafor in Abuja Electricity distribution companies in Nigeria’s power sector yesterday asked President Muhammadu Buhari

to sit up and comprehensively address the challenges in the power sector without recourse to politics. They also declared that they have been freed from

the responsibility of providing meters to power consumers under their networks, explaining that the newly initiated Meter Assets Provider (MAP) programme of the

Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) is now to be saddled with that task. Speaking at a press briefing in Abuja, the Executive Director for Research and

Advocacy of the Association of Nigerian Electricity Distributors (ANED), an umbrella body of the Discos, Mr. Sunday Oduntan, said that NERC’s MAP had assumed

APC: We'll Enforce Party's Decision on N’Assembly Leadership Lawan vows to obey party's resolution, explains ambition

Ejiofor Alike in Lagos and Onyebuchi Ezigbo in Abuja As the jostle for leadership positions in the ninth National Assembly gathers momentum, the All Progressives Congress

(APC) has said it will ensure that the party’s decisions are respected by members in electing the principal officers. The position of the ruling party is coming as the Senate Leader, Senator Ahmed

Ibrahim Lawan, has said that his ambition to lead the ninth Senate is predicated on his vision to run a National Assembly that would sustain positive change for the good of Nigerians.

Unlike what happened during its assumption of power in 2015, APC said it would not allow the minority party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), to interfere in choosing who emerges as

the Senate President and the Speaker of the House of Representatives. The National Publicity Secretary of the APC, Mallam Lanre Isa-Onilu, who spoke with THISDAY at the

weekend, assured Nigerians that the party would not allow a repeat of what led to the crisis within its caucus at the National Assembly at the onset of the out-going legislature. Continued on page 8

INEC Declares Lalong, Ortom, Tambuwal, Ganduje Reelected Mohammed wins extra election in Bauchi PDP kicks over Kano Ile in Abuja The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) yesterday finally drew the curtain on governorship elections in four of the seven outstanding states, returning Governors Aminu Tambuwal (Sokoto), Samuel Ortom (Benue), Simon Lalong (Plateau) and Abdullahi Ganduje (Kano) as elected for second term. Three states, Bauchi, Adamawa and Rivers, however, remain contentious. In Bauchi, the Peoples

Democratic Party’s (PDP) candidate, Senator Bala Mohammed, won the supplementary election held on Saturday, increasing his votes haul at the March 9 poll that puts him ahead of Governor Mohammed Abubakar, who seems to have lost out in the keen contest. The only thing standing between Abubakar and eventual defeat is the restraining order he secured last week from an Abuja court, which restrained INEC Continued on page 10
