FG to Sell Yola Disco, Two Power Generation Plants Again, Discos carpet Fashola over poor power supply Chineme Okafor in Abuja and Peter Uzoho in Lagos The federal government will re-sell the Yola Electricity Distribution Company (Disco),

which was returned to it in 2015 by a core investor as a result of the Boko Haram insurgency, and two additional gas-fired power generation plants, THISDAY has learnt.

This development is coming as the electricity distribution companies in the country under the aegis of the Association of Nigerian Electricity Distributors (ANED)

have again described as false the claim by the Minister of Power, Works and Housing, Mr. Babatunde Fashola, that the transmission capacity has increased from 5,000

Megawatts in 2015 to 7,124 MW in December 2017, representing a yearly increase of 1,062 MW in the transmission capacity. The Discos also stated that

adequate power supply will not be feasible until 2023 because of liquidity challenges facing the power sector. Continued on page 10

National Assembly, his close aide told THISDAY that he made it because, “the Senate president was smarter than the security agencies.’’ The source, who pleaded

anonymity, said Saraki was alerted about the ‘’evil plans’’ by the security agencies, when on Monday, at about 8p.m., he received a letter, asking him to report to the police

Deji Elumoye, Omololu Ogunmade, James Emejo and Onyebuchi Ezigbo in Abuja It was a bad day for the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) yesterday as a gale of defection swept through the National Assembly with 14 of its leading senators defecting to the main opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). The APC also lost weight in the House of Representatives, where 32 of its members crossed carpeted to the side of the PDP. The ruling party also lost four members to the African Democratic Congress (ADC),

while one other resign without stating which party he will join. The political realignment reconfigured the federal legislature as the PDP took control of the Senate with 57 senators to the APC’s 49, while the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) has one senator. Two seats are vacant. The Senate Majority Leader, Senator Ahmad Lawan, however, disputed this position last night, insisting that in spite of the defection, the APC still has 52 senators to PDP’s 50; APGA three; and Continued on page 16
