The 2024 Institute for Creative Teaching explores story, worldbuilding and fiction as ways of learning.
Fiction as derived from the Latin “fictio” is to make, fashion, or mold and learning can be defined as a personal process of construction of knowledge. Fiction utilizes imagination and empathy to find ways to apply what we know and to examine possibilities beyond the observable.
When we as teachers provide space for fiction in our curricula, we allow students to reflect themselves to themselves, challenge the status quo, and envision alternatives when making life choices.
