COMPETENCIES MANUAL Sketching - My core skill, which I use to visualise my design process from start to finish. The use of colour in my sketches is key to enhancing their depth.

Watercolour/ Painting - Using these artistic media helps me to define the atmosphere of designed spaces with a unique character.

Model-Making - I find model-making is a valuable tool in the design process, especially through making sketch models and experimenting with different materials such as metal, plaster-casting, and wood.

DIGITAL I aim to balance hand-drawn with digital work throughout my design process, as I prefer to work in a mix-media work-flow. My digital work-flow uses these software:

PERSONAL STATEMENT I am a RIBA Part 1 Graduate who excels at using sketching and digital media to guide my design process and develop socially-conscientious and technically-detailed projects. My critical and intuitive mind has been honed by an understanding of structure, environment and detail at Bath. This has given me the confidence to navigate through challenging sustainable projects with an interdisciplinary mindset. Sketching to translate my design ideas onto paper is my passion and continues to fuel my fascination with architecture.

VOLUNTEERING St Mungo’s Recovery College, London, 2020 - Led an online course for clients to learn digital art software, namely Photoshop and Sketch-up.

- Supported the film-group with help using Photoshop to edit photos.

Julian House, Bath, 2019 - Displayed artwork for an exhibition to address digital inclusion for the homeless, which included paintings on this theme and a video montage.

- Supported the Manvers Street Hostel in Bath by preparing meals in the kitchen.

Thames 21, London, 2019 - Participated in river clean-up events in my local area, surveying and picking up litter - Culled invasive species and replanted the banks of the Chiswick Eyot.

EXTRACURRICULAR Vertically Integrated Project (VIP) - A group project with the University of Bath to design a walking route and map to address Bath’s historical links to slavery. Contributed as part of the creative graphics team.

Hockey - Member of the University of Bath Men’s 2nd XI from 2017-2021, awarded a Sports Colour in 2021.

OPEN DOOR Workshop and Day Centre for the Homeless Location: Brooklyn, NYC

Open Door breaks down the social and built barriers that can discourage those in insecure housing conditions from accessing support services. The Brooklyn block is opened up to passers-by with the forum, a publicly accessible outdoor safe space where clients, staff and the general public can interact. The gap of the Broadway passageway announces itself amongst the line of shop-fronts to entice visitors through, while the Stockton alley is a quieter entrance for regular staff and clients of the Day Centre.

The forum is the hub from which clients can access the Centre’s schedule of activities, which are split between three buildings. These are the workshop, for the making centre, the admin building, for 1-1 counselling, and the skills building, for vocational, educational and well-being activities. The entrances to these buildings link directly to the forum, with external staircases and a raised bridge providing several elevated viewpoints over the social heart of the Centre.

RECESS TED Project Location: Manhattan, NYC 20 Thibault SR Quinn - Open Door - Recess

The design seeks to give back to the community the recreational space it takes up on Robert Moses Playground by providing a varied collection of terraces connected to the libraries. These terraces fulfil the different needs of the public, researchers, and UN staff alike who use the libraries, namely relaxation, play, and connection to nature. They provide an accessible space for recess that is desired by New Yorkers in a city that sorely needs it. This was an interdiscplinary group project, and I worked in a team with architecture and civil engineering students. I prepared the drawings displayed in this section, and the design developed out of an effective collaboration of the whole group.

An external frame structure enables the design of more flexible, open spaces that are connected to the outside by terraces.

The structure is honestly expressed internally and externally, enhancing the users’ connection to the tactile spaces.

In its Manhattan context, the building’s expressiveness means it stands as a landmark that is active and engaging within the skyline. The language of the external frame is altered at the lower levels to invite users through into the entrance, and also to address the challenge of avoiding loading the QueensMidtown Tunnel, which cuts across the Southern corner of the site.
