If you have questions, please contact our office through email: info@aliveoutdoors.com or by phone: 416.429.8082 While the ALIVE instructors will assume daily leadership with all activity planning and teaching, they will look to you to be an active and engaged co – leader with regards to group management and discipline if needed. Please know that you are never stepping on the toes of an ALIVE Instructor. Feel free to add in teachable moments and make curricular connections whenever possible. We see you as the most powerful link to bring lessons acquired during the program back to the classroom. Below is a detailed overview of your role and responsibilities while being on an ALIVE program. We hope this information will help you better understand the nature of the program and your role within it. SUPPORTING EXPERIENTIAL EDUCATION: ALIVE operates under the philosophy of experiential education, which empowers students to take an active role in their learning, with minimum direction from leaders and adults. Challenge and struggle are important aspects of experiential learning. Accompanying adults should refrain from offering excessive suggestions, taking on dominant leadership roles, or showing students how to perform tasks before letting the students work through things on their own. ALIVE instructors, in partnership with the host site’s staff will be responsible for all activity instruction: time management, general programming, etc. Please speak to an instructor if you have any students in your group who may require special attention or different approaches to instruction. STAYING HEALTHY: During the past two years we have collectively been confronted by the ongoing impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic. The situation has challenged each of us in our daily lives and the lives of many in the communities we are all part of. To best provide meaningful outdoor education programming we will continue to monitor the situation closely and make health and safety decisions based on public health recommendations and best practices. You can help us create safe spaces for all students and instructors this fall by completing our Health Information Form in detail and not attending if you are feeling ill. Your school representative will inform you of any vaccine or proof of vaccine requirements closer to the start of the program. We thank you in advance for your understanding as we work with our site partners to provide the safest community experience we can at this time. ACCOMMODATIONS: During fall in camp programs host sites have a variety of indoor heated accommodations that range from multiple rooms in a lodge style building to cabins. Please touch base with your lead teacher to find out more about your specific accommodations for your program.
