The German government felt it was better to have the children adopted in societies or homes that had people of colour.

At the time a black American soldier could not marry a white German woman. If they asked permission from their superior officer, as well as receiving a flat no answer, the soldier would be ridiculed and transferred immediately.

The latter is a common trait within the black community in general, as black society often brushes away the facts as they do not know how to deal with certain realities.

A strategy that none of us can overlook as a successful one to keep a race divided and controlled.

The majority of mixed-race children in Germany who did not grow up with both parents are considered lost identity-wise.

To the German government's credit, there are several family reunification organizations. However, in the United States, there are none regarding mixedrace children and their biological parents.

CARITAS? The “Deutscher Caritasverband” (German Caritas Association) was founded in 1897. It gave rise to all other Caritas organisations worldwide. In 1916, the Catholic Bishops Conference of Germany declared it officially as the social wing of the Catholic Church in Germany.

Caritas work directly from the instructions of the Jugendamt (German: Youth office) to unite dysfunctional families. In this case, it would be children of mixed-race relationships.

Even though their objectives are seldom met, Caritas is the largest and most recognizable organization that promotes the idea of family reunification.

I was born in Heidelberg, Germany to a single mother who found the challenge of raising a bi-racial child too overbearing. My beloved grandparents, Ernst and Erna Prag, brought me home from the hospital and raised me as their own. I was raised in Ludwigshafen and had a beautiful childhood.

I attended a Catholic kindergarten when I was three years old. The nuns were strict but loving. At my birth mother's request, my grandparents let me live with her for a while, but unfortunately, the nuns informed my grandparents that I was not being taken care of properly. I never went back to live with her.

A couple of years later, my halfbrother Walter David, was born. He lived with my grandparents until an American couple came by to pick him up. Unbeknownst to us, my mother had given him up for adoption to an American family.

At elementary school, the other students would point out that I looked different. I knew this because my grandparents told me I had a permanent tan. My grandparents told me this out of love to protect me from feeling like an outsider.

The couple kept in touch with us for several years. His adoptive Dad tried to convince my grandparents to let him adopt me, but his request fell on deaf ears.

The kids at school called me names and told me I was dirty, which made me come home and scrub my arms to get the dirt off. I prayed every night that I would wake up with white skin and straight hair to fit in.

Some of my school friends' parents did not approve of our friendship.

My biological mother, who lived in Ludwigshafen as well, would come to our apartment from time to time to pick me up. There were also times she would not show up. We would see each other periodically.

She had married a German man and together they managed a restaurant in town. My grandparents did not want me to be around her husband due to his criminal record.

I asked my mom about my Dad, but she would only say his name and where he was from.

There were times when I would ride public transportation or see her in town and she would not acknowledge me. She would cross to the other side or sit far away from me.

My grandparents raised me to persevere and giving up was not an option. They insisted that I had to work harder than the next person. At that time, I did not understand, but I do know now.

Once I reached puberty, my male friends treated me differently. I noticed that boys tried to be very liberal with me, for which I could not understand why. I did not realize then that women of colour were seen as exotic and loose. .

There were some instances I was in that could have ended tragically, but I removed myself from the situation. I did not know the difference as I had no one else to compare myself to.

I was the only brown person in kindergarten, school, and later in the workplace.

After graduation, I went to business school while working, at a law firm, as a legal secretary apprentice. Once I completed my apprenticeship, I landed a job as a foreign language secretary at an international civil engineering company.

There, I worked my way up from foreign language secretary to the executive secretary for the president of the company.

When it was time for me to have a place of my own, I started to answer ads for apartments. I called the ads and had a good rapport with landlords. However, when I arrived to view the apartment, it was no longer available. It was not until after several appointments that I realized what was happening. Eventually, my grandfather started to go with me to these appointments and I found a little place I could call my own.

When I was finally living a single life, a friend took me to an American G.I. club. I was in awe to see people that looked like me. It was the first time.

This club is where I met my first husband and later went to live in America.

On my first visit back to Germany with my daughter, then two years old, I spotted my biological mother in a department store and approached her. She saw me and her granddaughter but never said anything. I was devastated.

In 1989, I got a call that my grandmother was sick and went home to be with her. She was at the hospital dying of cancer. My aunt told me that my mother was at the same hospital and dying of cancer as well. I went to see her, knowing that it would be the last time, but once again, after the obligatory “How are you?”, there was no extended conversation.

I left with a broken heart and have struggled with this for years. The worst part for me has been that I have never been acknowledged. I have since forgiven my mother for my peace of mind.

I made it through tough times with the support of a good friend who was going through a divorce as I was. Her friendship and encouragement from her family helped me through this rough time.

Before I left for the States in 1980, my grandmother put it on my heart to look for my brother Walter David and the first call I made was to the right family.

The lady who answered the phone immediately knew who I was and remembered my family. I was happy weeks later when I flew to Oklahoma City to finally meet him.

I have always been fortunate to find good jobs, and after a career change, my life improved. When I met my future husband, we realised we knew each other in Germany. I remarried and have been married since. Life has its ups and downs, but we persevered.

During our phone conversations, my brother would ask me why he was the one that had to leave. I know that it weighed on his heart. The only answer I had was that my grandparents already had guardianship of me, but not him, and they did not know what was going on behind the scenes.

To this day, I feel that he cannot get over the hurt which has overshadowed our relationship. My brother's family adopted another girl whom I had never met.

Do I regret leaving my home country?

Yes, I do! I would advise anyone contemplating such a move not to do it. I missed a lot with my family. When you are young, you do not realise the ramifications of your decisions.

Life in the US has been educating, lonely, and scary. It is hard to make friends, especially when you are from another country. I encountered racism in Germany, but there is no comparison to what brown and black people endure living in this country day by day. Not being raised in the US, it has taken some time for me to identify the systemic racism that exists.

I am still in contact with my German family and friends; modern technology has made it easy to rekindle and maintain old and new relationships and friendships.

efore the war, in Germany, mixed-race relationships or marriage were forbidden. The term "brown" babies was the term to describe the children from the relationships. After World War Two, the German society and government thought it was rational to place the children with similar coloured families or hide their existence.

Nowadays, the term Afro- (German/American) is used for comfort amongst many in Western society, while the new term "brown" has been used to replace racially mixed children.

These babies of colour were also advertised for adoption to what Americans called "American Negros". Based on the information that has been provided throughout the years, as well as the interest shown in the Afro-American culture, their plan has unfortunately worked. There are no roots. Like it or not, it has been uprooted and broken.

There is a plural list of unanswered questions that WJ feel necessary to address.

Such as: "What is African American culture?"

The coloured/black/African-decent Americans were brought unwillingly to America as slaves. However, they are still the leading, advantaged and materialistic-wise, coloured/black/brown/African decent people.

Rationally thinking, we may all agree that it was the logical and responsible thing to do if the mother, who was German, allowed coloured/black/African descent families the opportunity to adopt the children.

The mother of the children was also ridiculed as a "negurehoren" by German society. During these times, the mother was forced into mental institutions by hiding the unforgiven secret, while the father was never aware of such condoned barbaric acts.

The same method has been exercised by certain families in Germany today.

It is fair to print that if there were an attempt by the Afro-American soldier to bring the mother and child to America as a family, their ethical move would have experienced a harsh and cruel society in America.

QUESTIONS: Have the Brown Babies identified themselves in the past seventy years till today considered the children that don't know who they are?

And worse, do not know where they belong?

The German Republic has not made any effort to identify the children.

To remind the reader that the post-World War II children are now grandparents.

Are they gathering the facts from individuals who are afraid to be labelled Afro-American today as German Brown Babies?

What are the facts?

Where are the official documents?

Do you think anyone would care?

Last, do they care based on their silence, which can be considered a surrender of being labelled as black, brown, or AfroAmerican?

We (WJ), ask what about now or within the last 30 years?

In August 2010, the German constitutional court ruled unmarried fathers have the right to sue for joint custody of their children. The judgement was undoubtedly to satisfy the European Court of Human Rights.

Except for private groups or the odd independent documentary, any unification efforts have been made at a minimum.

Without question, it was an embarrassment to the German society to witness their women having children by American G.I.s of colour.

Was it a punishment from the Allies to allow such a thing to happen?

It should be noted, if not consistently written, to remind the world that it is inhuman to take children away from their fathers and to ignore their fathers' rights as the father.

The same applies to the mothers who saw no colour. There were no cases of rape.

They were just as curious to cross the colour barrier as the fathers who willfully planted their seeds.

The soldiers knew what the outcome would be if these women became pregnant.

Based on the environment at the time, it can be considered an irresponsible act between the mother and father.

The female "Brown Babies" seems to have suffered the worst, considering they resembled the formula William Lynch delivered to the colonist 200-odd years before World War II.

These soldiers knew they could not return to America with a white woman and a mixed-race child in the late '40s to the early '80s.

WHAT HAPPENED TO THESE BABIES? During these times, the German and American governments thought racially mixed children from Germany placed with American families of colour was a reasonable solution.

In the second part of the millennium, there are more success stories of mixed-race relationships with children in Germany than seven decades ago.

There are, however, hundreds of thousands of fathers from the new generation of brown babies who are not allowed to have access rights to their children.

Based on these individuals' efforts, it would be "Wunderbar- wonderful" if the German government and society today accepted these individuals as they have themselves while living the majority of their lives in the only country that accepted them -America.

THE FEAR

T

he number one method to control any human being has been in the form of fear.

According to this article, fear is a tool in controlling the mentality of German Brown Babies.

Ninety-nine per cent of German Brown Babies are reluctant to search for their colour roots. Most felt that if they sought out their father, they would face abandonment by their German family. It is without question a form of slave loyalty.

They are afraid or do not know where to look.

"Your father left you!" , "He is not interested in you!" and "How could you do that to the family that raised you!" are common phrases verbalized to German Brown Babies of the past and present. Naturally, they believed it as they had no one else to turn to.

Colour shade preferences amongst Africans have been a division tool since the colonial days. There has not been an antidote to the unfortunate formula written in 1712.

Any method of perpetuating fear used against a confused soul that does not have an identity is a solution to uphold a division amongst strength.

Whether the reader agrees with the statement is not the point. The letter was delivered to slave owners within the Virginia Commonwealth in 1712.

Unfortunately, the purpose of that gathering has been sustained ever since amongst African decent individuals. Especially within the German Brown Baby community since the 1940's.

If and when the German Brown baby reaches a point in life and questions their existence while conducting a lifelong fact-finding identity, the response is a series of lies told and manipulation for the brown baby to resist their heritage while being ashamed of their race.

There was abandonment and emotional blackmail by the German mother and her family. Why? Because the white German could never prepare the German Brown Baby to be black, African, or a person of colour.

If they do not reach a plausible solution, African-decent individuals are considered a perfect weapon against their race.

There is an antidote to this unfortunate trait and virus.

There have been books written that have helped Brown Babies feel a sense of satisfaction or a way to deal with their identity. There is, however, no other solution than having the courage to face the facts, dissect the events from the past, forgive what has happened as it is not the children's fault and ask for acknowledgement that the events occurred.

Some of the Brown Babies that have resided in America after being ousted or given up to families there have given themselves plaques or rewards.

Many do not seek the truth until their parents or grandparents have perished. Unless they face adversity in their lives as a person of colour, then it is a convenience.

The Worth Journey intends to encourage readers to research and find books on German Brown Babies.

They deserve to be recognized.

While compiling the facts for this inaugural GBB edition, contributors faced unexpected opposition from those who claim to be a German Brown Baby or those who carry the weight of emotional blackmail from their oppressors.

In America, it is easier as America is the dominant source for African descent to flourish by giving some rights as equal citizens.

During our research, most German Brown Babies felt comfortable acknowledging their blackness when they faced discrimination.

A vast amount of African American fathers who were in Germany post World War II were not aware of their children.

Those who did know had little or no rights to the child's welfare or upbringing.

There is a small percentage of 2% (two per cent) of the registered 5,000 racially mixed children born in Germany during this period that eventually had contact with their African American father.

To date, there have not been any articles or documents supporting the fathers who did know about their child that was left behind.

There have also been little to zero stories published about reunification between the fathers and the child.

A bold statement could also be that the fathers could have interacted with their children throughout the years in America and did not know it was their child.

Many do not seek the truth until their parents or grandparents have perished.

Whether they accepted it or not, the German society did not want them and sent them to orphanages and AfricanAmerican families as adopted children.

But also kept it quiet.

Lynch's meaning behind his statement; "Put the niggers and the horse in a breeding pot, mix some assess and some good white blood and what do you get? You got a multiplicity of colours of ass backwards, unusual niggers, running, tied to a backward ass long-headed mule, the one productive of itself, the other sterile.

The one constant, the other dying, we keep the nigger constant for we may replace the mules for another tool both mule and nigger tied to each other, neither knowing where the other came from and neither productive for itself nor without each other.

In 1712, William Lynch, a slave trader and breeder based in the Caribbean (West Indies), addressed slave plantation owners in Virginia about their problem with their "Negro Slaves".

In true WJ fashion, we are referencing section(s) from his "arguably or inarguable" letter that we felt was relevant while stating facts of how and why this publication's subject matter.

In doing so, we ask our readers to accept our acknowledgement of the letter as we DO NOT CONDONE the method that has been unfortunately successful thus far. We are NOT ADVOCATING THE LETTER, which we refer to as an unfortunate successful formula.

This is reciting verbiage from a letter written in 1712.

Based on our studies, the formula and conditions of African Americans often conflict with the German Brown Babies of today being afraid to be African, Black or people of colour.

Perhaps it is time for the German Government to acknowledge German Brown Babies as being German.

(Webster Dictionary) Some Afro-Germans were unfortunately delusional or in denial of knowing their father, as well as admitting the unfair opportunities missed based on their conditioning.

They do, however, mention their German background four to five decades later.

We ask again:

America seemed to have been the responsible and rational solution for relocating the unwanted children. It is safe to say that the Germans didn't want more extermination blood on their hands post-World War II. The men of colour who had relationships with the German women couldn't have returned to America with their new families. It would not have been a healthy move, even if they were allowed.

Most of the German Brown Babies that we contacted to get their story, feelings and life journey were afraid to confront what their paths had been.

Does the German government mention you?

Do they acknowledge the German Brown Babies of yesterday?

More importantly, has it changed today?

Some may have felt it was their fault and are afraid to enquire due to the emotional blackmail by their families or peers.

There is also the case when they are sometimes embarrassed to be black unless it is convenient for them when they feel discriminated against.

positive and successful German Brown Baby story is not hard to find. There are many. The problem has been getting those grown-up babies to cooperate with either an interview or acknowledge they are German Brown Babies.

Perhaps after this publication, the German Brown Babies of today will not be afraid to be black without the convenience and have the courage to face reality. Germany today is more progressive than most Western civilized countries, but the problem still exists.

Oliver Kofi Safo, a German-Ghanaian, is one of the stories that we feel should serve as an example for those who have not acknowledged their roots and are not ashamed of their skin colour.

Oliver's answers to WJ questions are direct and should be a comfort for those who struggle with a colour complex.

It is, after all, their choice.

Our have been fortunate in the sense that the family moved to Germany again from mothers of my children are both of African 1982-1984 due to the political turmoil in origin. All my children had the chance to Ghana. I moved to Germany alone in 1987 spend their formative years here in Ghana. to study and returned to Ghana in 2002 after 15 years in Berlin. I came on holiday, but then I realised there were better opportunities here in Ghana. I have lived here since then.

Were there any social challenges when you were in Germany visiting family?

Yes, there were, especially on the job front. However, I had been well prepared by my dad before leaving. The advice I gave was to be twice as good as my white colleagues at anything. Although, it was not that helpful.

Imagine that your parents are white but your skin colour is dark and they tell you that 's pure coincidence. This is what happened to a girl in East Berlin in the 1960s. Years before, a group of African men came to study in a village nearby. Here the East German woman Sigrid falls in love with Lucien from Togo and gets pregnant. But she is already married to Armin. The child is filmmaker Ines Johnson-Spain. Meeting her stepfather Armin and others from her childhood years, she tracks the astonishing strategies of denial her parents and the surroundings had developed.

In an intimate portrayal but also critical exploration she brings together painful and confusing childhood memories with matterof-fact accounts that testify a culture of rejection and tightlipped denial. Yet, the movingly warm encounters with her Togolese family develop Becoming Black also into a reflection on themes such as identity, social norms and family ties, seen from a very personal perspective.

CONFUSION It is essential to include confusion as part of the prognosis but not define the term as a German Brown baby.

Confusion is not only written in the pages of William Lynch's letter dated 1712 but also explained in detail how to cause and maintain what he thought was a vital ingredient to the unfortunate formula.

Is it true?

In the current state of affairs and the level of Black America or America, in general, many have started to mention their German side.

Why so late in life? What has given the seventy-plus-year-olds the courage now?

The photos of badges or certificates acknowledging their German heritage in the millennium verify our assumption of confusion.

Has the German Government or their families acknowledged them?

It is a blessing that America accepted them.

According to official German records, there were in the region of 95,000 U.S. occupation babies born in Germany shortly after WWII. Approximately 5,000 of those were Germany’s Brown Babies.

Studies have shown that the Brown Babies in Germany today, who are not with both parents, are often confused. If and when they are confronted with being black or asked: "Where are they from?" is possibly the only time a Brown Baby may or may not acknowledge their race.

For the most part, they do not know but will guess or speak from an ignorant tongue and grasp the idea that their father abandoned them and left for America or went back to Africa.

CONFUSION: /noun/ 1. The lack of understanding; and uncertainty: "there seems to be some confusion about which system does what" 2. The state of being bewildered or unclear in one's mind about something: "she looked about her in confusion"

Studies have shown that the Brown Babies in Germany today, who are not with both parents, are often confused. If and when they are confronted with being black or asked: "Where are they from?" is possibly the only time a Brown Baby may or may not acknowledge their race.

For the most part, they do not know but will assume their father abandoned them and left for America or went back to Africa. A large percentage of those fathers did not know of the child's existence until decades later or were driven out of Germany.

There have been cases proven that some Brown Babies are afraid of black people who are comfortable with their skin colour. That confusion stems from their colour complex.

Is it a sin to have the courage to ask their mother, who may have implemented a good plan of confusion mixed with emotional guilt?

For example: "Please don't break my heart by asking, I have done so much for you.

Your father did not care about you. That is the reason he left Germany."

Why can't it be discussed if there is nothing to hide?

The solution or answers to those questions are of public knowledge if the person of colour dares to look without the confusion of hurting their loved ones.

Why can't they discuss certain things with their white friends, loved ones or colleagues without either side feeling uncomfortable or having to defend their silent judgements?

Just ask. During our research for this publication, we faced more obstacles and automated defence strategies from German Brown Babies than Germans. The latter was more open to discussing history and listening without denying that certain events happened in the past.

The delusional display was the German Brown Babies showing a side of division amongst an African race. Perhaps it stems from not knowing where they belong.

That is until the Internet and social media platforms opened doors of courage to post certain German traditions.

Throughout Germany today there are Afro-German enabling courses. Imagine there are courses on how to be black.

SELF ESTEEM For a certainty, stories told are transmitted by those who have succeeded in their journey. This publication is for those who have questions about the stories told but have been silenced or isolated.

Birds of a feather tend to flock together while sheep manoeuvre in herds.

Whether we admit it or not, humans are no different. It is not until one or outcast individuals step to podiums to express an interest or subject that is relevant.

The German Brown Babies stories, which will always continue, have been there. Why haven't they been told or come to the surface?

The Afro-German stories described as German Brown Babies in this publication are relevant.

The answer is quite simple. No one cared.

We (WJ) contacted organizations we assumed were genuine and authentic to change the future from past mistakes.

The new modern era of accessibility enables us to write or post various stories online. We aim to give German Brown Babies the courage to acknowledge their half-heritage origin.

The facts should serve as a breaking point for those individuals to overcome their inner fear of finally knowing.

However, the individuals we approached maintained isolation and a sense of competition based on their German mixed-race experience. We faced race segregation, denial, and delusional afterthoughts as if they were German or being recognized as German.

There was also an enormous amount of fear of being black.

Yet they all wanted to be universally recognized. Well, this is for you. This time, the stories are being published equally by girls and boys of both parents.

More importantly, by those who are directly affected. Reliable sources.
