“It’s a night for the kids to get physicals if needed and for coaches to get gear out to the athletes, and for parents and students to fill out paperwork prior to the start of daily doubles,” said BHS athletic director James Freitag. Free hamburger meals will be provided to student athletes and are available to all others attending for $2 each. Athletic physicals will be provided on site for $20 by Dr. Megan Hollard or Dr. Scott. All of the money will be donated back to BHS. Representatives of the Bandon Community Health Center will be available to share some updated information pertaining to vaccinations. The tentative agenda includes: 6:30-7 p.m., barbecue 7-7:30 p.m., greeting, opportunity to fill out paperwork 7:30-8:30 p.m., physicals, gear distribution, meeting with athletic director (fulfills requirement necessary for students to participate in athletics at BHS). Although the Bandon School Board has been discussing the possibility of instituting a drug-testing policy for all student involved in OSAA activities, Superintendent Diane Buche has said the policy will not be implemented this school year because they board is still working out the legalities of the proposal. Freitag said there also will be more public input sought on the subject. All BHS athletes who plan on participating in fall sports are asked to attend the Back to School Sports Night.
