The month of July is a great time to celebrate. We celebrate our nation’s independence. We celebrate our heritage. We celebrate our freedom. And we celebrate our heroes and our patriots. A hero is defined as a person of distinguished courage or ability, admired for his/her brave deeds and noble qualities. A patriot is defined as a person who loves, supports, and defends his or her country and its interests with devotion. We are blessed with many American heroes, from the founding fathers and mothers, down to our present day. From the smallest deeds of kindness to the brave soldiers that have given their lives for this country, these hundreds of thousands men and women come from every race, religion, and ethnic group. We should always celebrate their brave deeds and noble qualities. We will be honored to host an American hero and patriot as our guest at Prime Timers on Wednesday, August 2. Air Force Col. Jerry Ross, is an astronaut who is a veteran of seven space shuttle missions, making him the joint record holder of the most space flights. Jerry is also husband, father, grandfather, and faithful Christian witness. He is also an active United Methodist. I had the honor of being his pastor for eight years at Friendswood UMC, near the space center. Now retired, Jerry works to inspire young people to believe in themselves and achieve their dreams. He is the author of several books, including some for children. Col. Jerry Ross is a true American hero and a great patriot. I hope you will plan to be present to meet him and hear him at our Prime Timers luncheon on Wednesday, August 2. Wishing you a happy Fourth of July, Your friend,

Dave & Dee McGee
