WESTFIELD

From the Headmaster

Dear Westfield Family,

My colleagues and I are extremely proud of the students at Westfield. We feel great hope for the future because we are surrounded by young people of character whose potential for greatness appears boundless. Even in the face of individual challenges and setbacks, our collective student body affirms God’s goodness, grace, and love in countless ways.

Students today face relentless challenges, and Westfield looks for ways to help our students and their families meet the challenges. As our society pursues secular agendas, Westfield has added an Upper School praise band and focused on Christian songs in Grandparents’ Day. As society and our political climate become more divided and acrimonious, Westfield has expanded counseling resources to help students. As Christian values are eroded in our culture, Westfield added a required Christian ethics course in Middle School. As cellular devices are an issue for all, Westfield is proactively seeking to remove the devices during the academic day. While our efforts are never flawless, we aspire to curate an educational experience that not only prepares students for college, but also an experience that enriches lives and nourishes the soul.

I hope that this report for the 2023 and 2024 school years reflects some of the great work that is occurring among our students and faculty. Our talented and dedicated faculty and staff choose to work here because of the Christian environment, the rigorous college preparatory education, and the exceptional families who are a part of the Westfield community. The relationships that are formed between our teachers and their students are truly at the heart of our school, and the people and their relationships are what matter most. However, we do want our families to enjoy great facilities, and we have been studying what will be needed for the school to be prepared for the future. We expect that you will hear more about this in the upcoming year.

We thank you for your support of our efforts here at Westfield. I am delighted to share with you a few of the words that our Class of 2024 Valedictorian Sean Fisher said during his speech at graduation, “Be steadfast in your beliefs and anchor yourself in the word of God. For He alone will not lead you astray. As you grow and mature, becoming the doctors, engineers, lawyers, businessmen, businesswomen, interior designers, software developers, physicists, nurses, and teachers you aspire to be, remember to spread kindness and respect wherever the Lord takes you.”

supporting WestField through goAl

The GOAL Scholarship Program offers an outstanding opportunity for individuals and corporations to contribute to Westfield while also receiving a dollar-for-dollar state tax credit. These crucial funds directly support need-based financial aid for incoming Westfield students. Since our participation in the GOAL program began in June 2009, your generous support has consistently enabled us to increase the amount of aid we provide each year.

Thanks to your support and contributions, 2023 and 2024 were landmark years for the Georgia GOAL Scholarship Program. The Education Expense credit cap of $120 million for 2024 was surpassed on the first business day of January. Due to oversubscription, applicants in 2024 received only 63 percent of their requested amounts. To sign up for a 2025 tax credit, you must apply before the end of 2024. Credits will be oversubscribed and prorated again this year. A fiscal impact study indicates that the Georgia Education Expense Credit Program has saved Georgia taxpayers almost $1 billion over ten years. This significant positive fiscal impact underscores the life-changing difference this program makes for Georgia’s children.

We extend our heartfelt thanks to the 115 participants who applied to redirect over $522,336 of their tax dollars in 2024 to benefit The Westfield School, providing greater learning opportunities for children in our school community.

volunteers: WFo And Alumni

We know that our outstanding faculty, facilities, and exceptional students would not be possible without the generous support of the entire Westfield family. Our school receives countless hours of support from alumni serving on our Westfield-Beechwood-Baker Alumni Association Council, individuals serving in our Booster Club, and parents volunteering on campus through our Westfield Family Organization.

As a not for profit independent school, Westfield is dependent on tuition and the support of those who believe in and support our mission of providing a premier college preparatory education in a Christian environment. There are a variety of campaigns and ways to support Westfield, whether through a financial gift or volunteering your time and talents.

The Westfield Family Organization (WFO) provided support for various school events such as our annual New Family Tailgate, Field Day activities, the Lower School Book Fair, and Grandparents’ Day, as well as providing support for our faculty and staff through breakfasts, luncheons, and other appreciation events and gifts. The organization also raises important funds through the operation of our school’s Spirit Shop.

Booster CluB: support For AthletiCs

The Westfield Booster Club raised over $230,000 through annual sponsorships, the fall sports program, concession stand sales, the annual dove shoot, and the annual golf tournament and raffle. These efforts helped provide funding towards the Gymnatorium renovation and the purchase of new uniforms and equipment for athletic teams, new championship banners, state championship rings, and team meals. Thank you to the many individuals and businesses for their support of our Booster Club.

CLASS REUNIONS

‘74 and ‘75

The Westfield classes of 1974 and 1975 celebrated big with a combined reunion on May 31 and June 1, 2024. The gatherings were held Friday night at Claire and Stan Wills’ home and Saturday night at Jeannie and Mayo Sexton’s home, along with a men’s golf scramble on Saturday. The weather was perfect all weekend, and there were lots of hugs, laughter, great food, and the sweetest fellowship. One of the greatest blessings was having two of their teachers, Mrs. Jeannette Arrington and Mrs. Bobbie Hickson Nelson, joining them on Friday night. These classes have a special bond - four couples met in high school and are married. The classes also remembered the fourteen classmates who have passed away. A generious donation was taken up and presented to Westfield in memory of those special friends.

Giving Opportunities

Throughout the 2023-2024 academic year, our Annual Fund has played a vital role in bolstering our School Resource Officer (SRO) program and instituting initiatives aimed at enhancing campus safety. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to our families and community whose generous contributions have made these endeavors possible.

As we move forward, we eagerly anticipate the commencement of the Lower School pathway paving project this summer, a testament to our collective dedication to providing a safe and enriching environment for our students.

Looking ahead to the 2024-2025 school year, we are excited to embark upon a new initiative: the renovation of our Lower School playground. This project will include safety surfacing, equipment replacement, structural integrity, and aesthetic improvements. To accomplish this endeavor, we will be launching an Annual Fund campaign this fall for this exciting project. We anticipate the project to cost approximately $500,000.

Our goal is to create a playground space that future generations of students will enjoy as much as those in the past have experienced. Every donation, regardless of size, will play a significant role in realizing our vision for an upgraded and revitalized playground. We want to emphasize that all donations are tax-deductible, and your support, in any capacity, is genuinely appreciated.

Donors can contribute via cash, check, credit, and monthly billing. Every gift helps us grow a step closer to our goal. Founders Club donor names will be featured on a plaque on the Lower School playground. Additional naming opportunities exist for donor who contribute $25,000 and up.
