I’m all for traffic lights at this intersection. We live a few streets away from Bedford Road on Great Ryrie Street and never go up there to turn right because it’s too dangerous. We go around the back streets, which takes longer but is much safer. It really is quite dangerous and awkward to get out of that intersection.

Thanks for your help On Friday August 10, I had the pleasure of drawing the mayoral charity raffle and was proud to hand the keys to a new Honda Jazz to Judy Monro from Croydon. I would like to take this opportunity to thank all those businesses and residents who bought a ticket. I was able to present a cheque for more than $36,000 to Monkami as a result of the proceeds from the raffle and it was my proudest moment in the 31⁄2 years I have been on Maroondah Council.

FOOD FIGHT! THE great debate continues at the Weekly offices over which side of town has the best food and drink — and it’s time for the east to step up. While we took out the crown for best hot chocolate, the Westies have won best doughnuts and best kebabs. So, with the score at 2-1, let’s get back in the game and claim what’s rightfully ours. This week we’re searching for the best Vietnamese cuisine. Jump online and tell us where in the east and south east corners of Melbourne are the tastiest places to get your fix of pho, spring rolls and dumplings. There’s also prizes for best comment, so show your eastern suburbs pride. Cast your vote or suggestion at facebook.com/EastVWest, or on Twitter, @MaroondahWeekly.

Hot wheels Raffle winners Judy and Bruce Munro of Croydon show off their new wheels with John Tofari (Ringwood Honda General Manager), Brendan (Monkami client) and Wilma (Monkami client), Rob Steane (mayor), Katham (Monkami client) and Jillian Christie (Monkami CEO). The Honda Jazz Vibe was the first prize in the 2012 Maroondah Mayoral Charity Raffle. The raffle raised $36,500 for Monkami, an organisation that works with people with intellectual disabilities. Ms Christie said the funds raised would make a huge difference. Another 10 lucky winners have all been notified of their winnings.
