ALIVE WITH ALLURE Development Group’s latest apartment Pace offering sits midway between St Kilda’s trendy Fitzroy Street and Chapel Street, giving

apartment purchasers the best of both worlds. Its location on Wellington Street, St Kilda, also makes it an attractive proposition for commuters who want a city lifestyle without being in the CBD. Pace is a fully integrated development company that has been building quality bayside developments since the early ’90s from planning and design right through to construction. Its latest project, this 77-apartment development, has a mix of one- and two-bedroom apartments with a big emphasis on lifestyle space, according to Damon Krongold, director of Beller Project Marketing, which is handling off-the-plan sales for Pace. “Apartments are typically 80 square metres internally with balconies of up to 36 square metres offering residents large, open-plan living areas and bedrooms much bigger than found in many new developments,” he says. With a choice of two interior colour schemes, the apartments have clean contemporary lines, spacious kitchens with European appliances and double sinks. Bathrooms feature Rogerseller tapware and fittings, a frameless shower and tiles throughout. Bedrooms are carpeted and living areas have hardwood timber floors. Melbourne is about to be home to a swag of buildings wrapped with screens – Portait, with its sculpted façade of Aboriginal leader William Barak, Luna’s “living façade” and Wrap in Southbank are a few that spring to mind. Pace has followed the trend with Allure – a butterfly screen façade wraps much of the building. Pace architect Michael Holla says the façade was inspired by the area’s rich history of art and design. “The butterflies are all in flight providing an instant sense of life, while giving the building a different persona at night when they are back-lit by apartment and balcony lighting,” he says. The façade also provides shelter on the building’s balconies. Construction is expected to start in June or July and Pace hopes to complete the project by November next year. \

Apartment purchasers have easy access to St Kilda’s restaurants and the nearby St Kilda Beach as well as some of Melbourne’s best shopping in Chapel Street and Toorak road. Prahran Market, with its wide range of fruit and vegetable stalls as well as excellent delicatessens, is a short drive or tram ride from the development, as are supermarkets, banks, pharmacies and a range of other shops. For the athletically inclined, Prahran Pool and the St Kilda sea baths are nearby, and Albert Park Lake with sports ovals, tennis courts and a five-kilometre walking/jogging track, public golf course and the Melbourne Sports and Aquatic Centre, an international-class swimming and sports facility, is within easy walking distance. Four city-bound trams depart from the nearby junction of Dandenong and St Kilda roads and Melbourne, Monash, rMIT and Swinburne universities can be easily reached by public transport.
