How long have we overlooked all this beauty right here in our own backyard? The Datai Langkawi is a slice of heaven on Earth, where the lush beauty of a tropical rainforest meets the pristine waters of a turquoise sea. Perfect for today’s micro-weddings or elopements, this beautiful resort has a range of versatile spaces for both indoor and outdoor celebrations – your imagination is the limit. With a venue like this, only minimal décor is required, and it’s a good thing Langkawi has one of the most talented florists around. We simply couldn’t resist the opportunity to work with her on this styled shoot!

f lorals+i nd us tri a l The many details of this wedding, from the warm tones to the deep maroon hues, worked beautifully to balance out the cool industrial backdrop of this warehouse venue. We love the theme colours and interesting textures that elevated the entire event, especially the flowers wrapped around the steel dividers and stairs. There is nothing quite like exquisite floral touches to make a gorgeous wedding! 1 8

Se n tul D e p o t, Kuala L um p ur This new event space set in Sentul West was originally built in 1905 by the Malay Federated States Railway. Once renowned as being among the biggest integrated workshops in the world, this historic landmark comprises interlinked large brick buildings and metal sheds that used to house depots and storage areas for steam and diesel locomotives. Brimming with potential, it is the ideal blank canvas for weddings and all kinds of celebrations.

ce r e mo n y What an ingenious idea for this couple to say “I do” in front of the unique arch on the exposed brick wall! Not only is this iconic landmark rich in history and significance, its wide-open spaces make it the perfect socially distanced wedding venue too. The ghost chairs were a classic touch, and the bridal couple looked stunning – she in her gorgeous lace gown complemented by soft glamour curls; and he in his very dapper suit. The bridal bouquet was a real sight to behold, encapsulating the moody colour palette of this special day. 2 2

r e ce p t i o n It’s not easy trying to get married in a pandemic. Six hundred and ninety-three days after they first got engaged, following multiple postponements and changed plans due to Covid-19, this bride and groom were finally able to tie the knot, and what a well-deserved celebration it was! They cut the cake, danced their first dance, and basked in the loving toasts given by their loved ones. When it came to their guests, they wanted to make sure everyone was in for a treat. “The inspiration for this was mostly drawn from Aussie stylists and planners that I follow on Instagram,” shared Eileen. “I wanted my guests to feel like they were somewhere abroad or out of Malaysia.”

dr e amy m a uv e + whims ic a l With barely two months to prepare, despite their ever-changing plans due to a natural disaster and the Covid-19 pandemic, this bride still managed to have the wedding of her dreams. “To highlight the whimsical theme, I chose emerald green, gold and white to be the main colours, with little pops of mauve and maroon throughout,” said Aloiza. Wearing a beautiful lace wedding gown designed by Julianne Syjuco, the bride was radiant as she met her groom, who looked very handsome indeed in his navy suit. Their bridal party also looked amazing, dressed in gauzy mauve bridesmaid dresses and tan suits respectively. We love that the bridesmaids carried floral rings in lieu of bridal bouquets!

c e r e mo n y Believe it or not, this wedding was 19 years in the making for these lovebirds. After meeting in high school and continuing their relationship long distance, they eventually found their way back to each other. Their journey made the exchanging of their vows even more meaningful, which they did in the presence of God, standing in this beautiful chapel with its breathtaking mosaic ceiling and twinkling lights. Aloiza: “The most significant moment for me was when I finally walked down the aisle, wearing my beautiful gown by Julianne Syjuco and surrounded by tall Alocasia plants, white flowers, and lots of green candle ornaments. It felt like I was walking through a whimsical forest to marry the love of my life.” 4 0

Vitalis V i l l a s , Santiago, Ilocos Sur Vitalis Villas in Ilocos Sur is situated high on a cliff, overlooking the sea and the beautiful Santiago Cove. Dubbed the ‘Santorini of the Philippines’, it features blue and white villas crafted in a traditional Greek architectural style, with cobblestone walkways and views that will truly take your breath away. Fortunately for the bridal couple, it was only 20 minutes away from where they live. Having initially looked at other venues, they were lucky to find this one after the Taal Volcano eruption scare meant they couldn’t have their first choice, the Tagaytay Highlands.

The reception was every bit as dreamy, with hanging chandeliers, stalks of blooms, twinkling fairy lights and gauzy drapes, all of which added a touch of glamour. The details made everything perfect, from the Tiffani chairs and long, picnic-style tables, to the salty sea air, crashing waves, and rousing toasts to the happy couple.

Amidst the warm wooden interiors of The Shorea, soft blooms and an abundance of lush greenery set a dreamy tone for these newlyweds to celebrate their union. Even though the guest list had to be pared down, there was no shortage of joy and fun for those celebrating the happy couple. Besides, having a streaming camera for guests who are unable to attend has become a wedding staple these days, no thanks to the pandemic. Little did she know, her new husband had arranged a wedding retreat at The Shorea, along with 20 close friends and family! While it wasn’t a destination wedding, everyone still felt like they had “gone away”. From the cutting of the wedding cake to waterfall hikes, it was certainly an “after party” to remember. Even better, there was a fresh harvest of durians to share – could anything be more Malaysian?

The newlyweds exchanged their vows in front of just 17 of their family and friends, the groom looking perfectly handsome while his bride was breathtaking in her veil that swirled dramatically in the wind, framing the happy couple. “With the pandemic still on and lockdowns imposed, finding a venue was very difficult,” said Josh. “Most of our prospective venues were closed on our wedding date, so we tried to find a venue that would be far enough away from busy locations, hence the yacht. We were surprised to learn that there had only been a few yacht weddings in the Philippines.”

Covid-19 may have put a halt to our travel plans, but it hasn’t stopped photographers from delivering awesome work. We speak to Rayson from Sanren Studio about this recent set of Japanese-inspired bridal portraits that were taken right here in Batu Pahat, Johor. What inspired the mood of this photoshoot? I personally love Japan's culture very much, so it is not surprising that one of the key elements in this photoshoot is Japanese vibes. You've got some very interesting camera angles for this set. How did you frame the shots, or did you do it during post-production? Since this was film photography, I felt that we shouldn’t execute the session like a normal digital photography session. I chose to shoot using a unique angle to widen the difference between those two mediums. For some of these shots, I’m literally on the floor. The thing about film photography is you get what you shoot. I tried to capture it as it was, minimising the post-production process. That’s the beauty of film. As this was film photography, how did you make sure that you would get your desired outcome for each shot? I think it’s similar to digital photography in that you have to know how to guide your subjects well. Besides, film photography is more forgiving than digital photography – blurry or “weird” shots are often considered a highlight in film. The trick is to be bold

when executing the session. Even though we couldn’t check

Drop the puffy ballgown and flaunt that waist that you’ve worked so hard to achieve. Opt for a simple design or one with embellishments and sparkles. In fact, there is no better time to choose a non-white or metallic shade. Show off those toned legs with a high-cut slit, and invest in a pair of statement heels. Small weddings mean more up-close moments with your guests, and that’s when details really matter.

The one-shoulder trend has taken off in myriad ways. You’ll love how these designers have incorporated the look into different styles – minimalist, pants and short dresses. Brilliant for those who want something simple yet stylish, it doesn’t hurt as well that this neckline is universally flattering. Look no further for a wedding outfit so comfortable you’ll be partying through the night!

The bridal pantsuit trend is taking on the traditional wedding dress – and winning. For the anti-bride out there, this is your moment. Elevate your wedding style to a completely new level with narrow pants that look great on hourglass figures, or pants with a touch of flare for those petite frames. Pair these with a simple tube top or lacy corset for a feminine look, and you’re good to go.
