MY COMMUNITY DIARY

// by your local WANAKA POLICE

It was a busy weekend celebrating the Wanaka A & P Show. The show highlights our rural and agricultural sector seeing attendees travel from all over the South Island to attend. This year was a huge success with Police Prevention Teams from Wanaka and Queenstown attending the event and assisting with planning.

It was disappointing to see six intoxicated drivers apprehended over Friday and Saturday nights, with one driver blowing over 1100mcgs. With a busy town and roads over the weekend it places significant risk upon other road users. Police urge anyone who is going out to plan their trip home by having a designated sober driver, or by making use of the taxi services available in Wanaka. Thanks to information provided by the community, Police were able to identify an anti-social road user who was doing skids in a gravel carpark causing stones to scatter towards vehicles and members of the public. The vehicle has been impounded and the driver is being dealt with by Youth Aid Wanaka. Police encourage the continued reporting of incidents in their community. Just a reminder that non-urgent events can be reported at the station, by phoning 105 and online at www.police.govt.nz
