Part III: Dunnville Memorial Arena and Community Lifespan Centre

CROSSWORD

The Town of Pelham is about to undertake a major project in the potential new Community Centre. The $37 million facility has spurred a great deal of debate, and will have a number of far-reaching repercussions over the next three decades. In order to keep residents as informed as possible, the Voice has reached out to Aldermen and Staff from nearby municipalities that have recently completed similar projects.

The Town of Pelham has set aside $200,000 for ‘public art signage east of Fonthill lands’, according to a presentation of the Capital Budget made by Treasurer Cari Pupo in January. The large sum of money has left a number of residents confused and upset.

Though below-freezing temperatures have been hard to come by this winter, kids in Pelham’s north end have been able to make the most of them thanks to the hard work and commitment of the volunteer firefighters at Station#3

who have constructed an outdoor skating rink near their firehouse in North Pelham. The project was spearheaded by volunteer firefighter Shawn Litalien who wanted to give youth in the area a place to play outdoor hockey. With an unusually warm winter

and erratic temperatures, ponds that would normally be safe to skate on have alternated between being completely unfrozen and dangerously thin. According to Shawn, the rink provides a safe alternative.
