Starting yesterday and running until next Friday, Nov. 11, the Pelham Public Library invites people to drop by and take part in the Great Coat Remembrance Day Project. The project involves people of all ages to embroider a name or names of veterans they would like to remember. When their embroidery is complete, participants are asked to pin their creation to the coat in

a place of their choosing. Once the project is done for the year, the embroideries will be attached to the coat permanently in the place where participants have chosen. The annual event recognizes individuals, service clubs, and community organizations for their hours of volunteer service. "The volunteers here this evening work to beautify our town as part of committees like Communities in Bloom, the Garden Club or those who have adopted a road," Mayor Dave Augustyn told the crowd in his opening remarks. “Volunteers among us run our town's most significant public events — things like the Fonthill Bandshell Concerts to Wheels and Waves to the Supper Market to the

Having two kids myself, it’s an interactive and hands-on way to talk about and share stories about Canada’s war veterans that is different than what kids experience in school.” The intention of the project, she said, is to encourage community members to take a few moments to remember fallen soldiers and loved ones who served in

VER THE PAST YEAR even the most astute political junkie would be hard-pressed to find a single news broadcast in Canada where the names Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton were not mentioned at least once. A few weeks ago I had the opportunity to wade into the troubled waters surrounding our neighbours when I received a pass to take part in the final day of filming for filmmaker Michael Moore's latest documentary, Trumpland. Sick and tired of the second-hand news dished out by the mainstream media, I decided to venture south to Wilmington, Ohio to taste for myself the bile in the belly of this political beast.
