Maple Acre Library renovations underway $1,000,000 redesign slated for completion by December BY VOICE STAFF On Monday, members of Town Council, the Pelham Library Board, the Maple Acre Advisory Committee and the community, celebrated the start of construction and renovation of the new Maple Acre Library in Downtown Fenwick. The work will include the demolition of the westerly portion of the structure, to be replaced with a modern facility that will allow the library to better meet the needs of residents. There will also be extensive renovations throughout. “Today’s start of construction of the new Maple Acre Library brings us one step closer to our vision of delivering exceptional library service throughout Pelham,” said Library Board Chair Tim

The Pelham Active Transportation Committee (PATC) knows that bicycles play a big role in many students’ lives. But many kids never receive any formal instruction on even basic cycling elements, like safety and the rules of the road. That’s why the PATC created the Glynn A. Green Bike Rodeo, an annual event that teaches kids about the many facets of cycling. More than 100 students would work their way through the course, mon-

One could hardly have hoped for a better outcome, as Pelham residents came out in droves to the DeVries Fruit Farm Strawberry Social last Saturday, where organizers held a fundraiser in support of the Seehagel Family. “There was somewhere between a thousand and twelve hundred people,” said Dan DeVries, who figured that the turnout was nearly double that of last year. “It was a beautiful day and people wanted to come out and give to a good cause.” And give they did, as the event raised more than $5,000 in cash donations, a figure that dwarfed past fundraising efforts. “It’s hard to put an estimate on what you think you
could raise,” said DeVries. “In the past we’ve collected five or six hundred bucks, and so this was just incredible.”
It was a beautiful day and people wanted to come out and give to a good cause DeVries thinks that level of generosity speaks volumes to the kind of community that exists in Pelham. See DEVRIES Page 3
