Nota de los Editores Summer, Winter, and Fall may have their fans, but Spring is clearly the best season. On March 20th is the beginning of Spring. It rules over the months of March and April. Spring is one of the four conventional temperate seasons, following Winter and preceding Summer. When it is Spring in the Northern Hemisphere, it will be Autumn in the Southern Hemisphere and vice versa.

BY: MICHELLE LEVYNN As we proceed with our life journey, we try to reflect on past events of our life then realize that it is as if we are reading a book- in fact, our own book of life. With such reflection, we become so glad to be participants of this life journey. Each day as we wake up, new learnings embrace us and they assist us to go on with our own personal development.

Furthermore, we know that there is no limit and boundary over learnings.

It only takes one's commitment to participate consistently in this journey that will make a consequent difference in his/her life. One noteworthy in life is when we share our various giftedness with each other. As you and me go on with our everyday learnings, we grow the more when we exchange life's wonderful stories.

Each chapter in our life brings tremendous lessons that when utilized

In life, there is no greater love than offering oneself for the welfare of others. However, as human as we are, there are self- centered tendencies that we need to be friend in ourselves.

At times, we tend to be so focused just on our own nourishment (though I am not saying completely that it is wrong) that at the end, we become non-committal to other people's development. To realize such twists, it then results to self-destruction.

On the other hand, allow me to share with you this wonderful quotation, " Self-education is, I firmly believe, the only kind of education there is."- Isaac Asimov.

I totally agree with Isaac in this sentiment of his. As we enter

What Are The Characterístics Of Emotional Abuse BY: MARY J. YERKES Emotional abuse is any nonphysical behavior or attitude that controls, intimidates, subjugates, demeans, punishes or isolates another person by using degradation, humiliation or fear.

Yelling, screaming, and name-calling are all forms of emotional abuse, as are more subtle tactics such as refusing to be pleased with anything, isolating an individual from family and friends and invalidating another's thoughts and feelings.

Examples of emotionally abusive behaviors include: • • • • • • • •

Humiliating and degrading Discounting, distorting and negating Accusing and blaming Isolating Withholding affection and emotional support Withholding financial resources Dismissive, disapproving, or contemptuous looks, comments or behavior Threatening harm to an individual's pets, possessions or person

Emotional abuse is an ongoing pattern of behavior designed to control, manipulate and subjugate another that usually occurs behind closed doors.

Speaking in anger is different than Ruth's experience: When I set the table for dinner, my husband would come into the kitchen, walk around the table, and adjust the placement of the silverware, plates and glasses, saying 'Some day you will get it right. Or maybe not'….

WHY DOES ONE PERSON ABUSE HIS SPOUSE, FRIEND OR RELATIVE? While the reasons for emotional abuse are complex, most experts believe it is rooted in unresolved childhood trauma.

"They are in as much pain as their victims, only they don't realize it," explains Dr. Rinck. It takes a great deal of effort and professional guidance for an abuser to overcome his destructive

patterns of behavior.

WHAT DOES THE BIBLE SAY? Nowhere in scripture does God sanction any kind of abuse. In 1 Corinthians 13, God tells us what love is and what it is not. "It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs…It always protects…" (vs. 4-7 NIV). 2 In regards to abuse within marriage, some misinterpret Ephesians 5:22 to justify abusive behavior. Let's be clear.

Scripture reveals that the marriage relationship is to reflect Christ's relationship with his church—one of sacrificial love. A wife is called to respond to her husband's biblical headship, not to his destructive and sinful behavior, just as the wife's mandate is to respect her husband.

God never condones abuse.

"You were created to have emotional freedom, inner peace, and strong self-esteem. Emotional abuse has undermined God's plan for your life, your joy, and your peace. But what others have sabotaged, God can rebuild."

The effects of emotional abuse are often debilitating.

They include depression, confusion, difficulty concentrating and making decisions, overwhelming feelings of worthlessness, hopelessness and poor physical health.

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN EMOTIONAL ABUSE AND OCCASIONAL OUTBURSTS OF ANGER? "It's important to distinguish between emotional abuse and an occasional outburst of anger," cautions Dr. Margaret J. Rinck, author, speaker, and Christian counselor who specializes in treating abuse victims and abusers. "Everyone has a bad day once in a while and responds with a harsh or negative word."

Your Life Is Waiting On You! When Are You Going To Show Up? BY: DESH DIXON

I first heard the phrase 'start before you're ready' from Marshawn Evans. I thought to myself she must be crazy. I can't start before I'm ready.

Well I have to be honest. Marshawn was right. Once I got enough courage to do my own event, I thought to myself that I wish I would've started sooner.

Your Life Matters. Your life is waiting on you. Many of us are waiting for the perfect time to start our business, the perfect time to travel, the perfect time to move, the perfect time to buy a new car, the perfect opportunity, etc. While it makes sense to wait to do certain things so you don't appear to be completely irrational or illogical, the reality is that there's never going to be a perfect time.

Perfection doesn't exist. Sometimes you just have to take a risk. You have to do something different. Yes, you should think things through and do your due diligence in terms of research and having some type of plan but once you've done that, at some point you're going to have to take a leap of faith. Your dreams need you. Even with a stellar business plan, for example, you may run into challenges.

Life happens for all of us no matter how much we try to have our ducks in a row. It's life. You learn along the way.

It's okay to make mistakes. You can use them as learning opportunities.

I speak from experience as I've delayed taking action in my own life because I've felt like I wasn't ready, I had to be perfect or that I didn't have enough or wasn't as good as some other people in my industry.

Steve Harvey is a comedian, television host, radio personality, actor, and author. Steve mentioned on his show that you have to jump. You'll never know if you can soar if you never jump. I agree. In other words, you don't know how amazing and incredible you can be if you never try, if never give yourself a chance.

Every successful person had to start somewhere. It's easy to get caught up in thinking you have to have everything perfect when you see your competition or others in your field that may have a fancier website or high quality videos, for example. It can be discouraging. However, you must remember that they too had to start somewhere. Stop comparing yourself to others.

Everyone started out with an idea, a dream, a goal. They then got the crazy idea to actually pursue it. Something in them had to believe that it was possible so they started to take action. I guarantee if you ask any successful person if it was a nice and perfect road to success, all of them would say no. There were some twists and turns but they did not let that deter them. As they were on their journey to success, I'm sure there were people they came across that had better websites, better videos, more clients, better marketing, etc. and they may have felt like they weren't good enough. But they kept going and just got better along the way. That's all you have to do.

What matters is your authenticity. You don't have to start out with the most expensive camera or the most expensive software. You start from where you are with what you have. It's enough. You can start with your iPhone. That's what I've done. What's important is to do what you can right now.

Your life is waiting on you. Your dreams are waiting on you.

Just get out there! If you focus on having everything perfect, you're likely to procrastinate and that will cause you not to move forward.

Your Dreams Matter. Your life matters. You matter. God has given all of us gifts and talents that we must share with the world. Your gift is what could save someone's life.

Your talent is what could give someone hope. If you look at it from the perspective of the millions of people you're robbing by not sharing your gifts and talents, then you wouldn't take it so lightly. It's not about you. You playing small is not benefiting anyone. Your gifts and talents were given to you so you could be a gift/blessing to others.

Start before you're ready. Take the first step. Take action in the direction of your goals and dreams. The world needs you. Don't wait for the perfect time. Start from where you are with what you have. It's more than enough. Keep moving. As you grow, you'll get better. Your life is waiting on you. Don't delay.

La primera vez que escuché la frase 'Comienza antes de que estés listo' de Marshawn Evans. Pensé que debe estar loco. No puedo empezar antes de que estoy listo.

Si bien tiene sentido esperar a hacer ciertas cosas por lo que no parecen ser completamente irracionales o ilógicas, la realidad es que nunca va a ser el momento perfecto.

Esto es lo que tú tienes que hacer.

Lo que importa es tu autenticidad.

No tienes que empezar con la cámara más costosa o el “software” más caro. Empieza de donde estás con lo que tienes. Es suficiente. Tú puedes comenzar con tu iPhone. Eso es lo que yo he hecho. Lo importante es hacer lo que tú puedes ahora mismo.

Tu vida te está esperando. Tus sueños están esperándote. Sólo comienza por ahí! Si te centras en tener todo perfecto, seguramente te vas a dilatar y esto hará que no te muevas hacia adelante.

Cada persona exitosa tuvo que comenzar en algún lugar. Es fácil quedar atrapado en el pensamiento de que hay que tener todo perfecto cuando ves tu competencia u otros en tu campo que pueden tener un sitio web más elegante o videos de alta calidad, por ejemplo. Puede ser desalentador. Sin embargo, debes recordar que ellos también tuvieron que haber empezado por alguna parte. Deja de compararte con otros.

La perfección no existe. A veces sólo tienes que tomar un riesgo. Tú tienes que hacer algo diferente. Sí, debes pensar las cosas y hacer tu debida diligencia en materia de investigación y tener algún tipo de plan; pero una vez que hayas hecho esto, en algún momento vas a tener que dar un salto de fe. Tus sueños te necesitan. Incluso con un plan de negocios estelares, por ejemplo, te puedes encontrar con desafíos. La vida pasa para todos nosotros, no importa cuanto intentamos tener nuestros patos en una fila. Es la vida. Tú aprendes en el camino. Está bien cometer errores. Puedes utilizarlos como oportunidades de aprendizaje.

Todos empezaron con una idea, un sueño, una meta. Luego consiguieron la idea loca de conseguirla realmente.

Algo en ellos debían de creer que era posible, así que empezaron a tomar acción. Te garantizo que si le preguntas a cualquier persona exitosa, si era un camino agradable y perfecto para el éxito, todos ellos te dirán que no. Hubo algunos giros y vueltas pero eso no los dejó disuadirlos. Cuando estaban en su viaje al éxito, estoy seguro que hubo gente que tenían mejores webs, mejores vídeos, más clientes, mejor comercialización, etc. y que pueden haberlos sentido como que ellos no eran lo suficientemente buenos. Pero ellos siguieron y acabaron mejorándose en el camino.

Tus sueños importan. Tu vida importa.

Tú Importas. Dios nos ha dado dones y talentos que debemos compartir con el mundo. Tu regalo es lo que podría salvar la vida de alguien. Tu talento es lo que a alguien podría darle esperanza. Si tú lo miras desde la perspectiva de los millones de personas que estás robando por no compartir tus dones y talentos, entonces tú no lo tomarías tan a la ligera. No es acerca de tí. Jugando en pequeño no beneficias a nadie. Tus dones y talentos fueron dados a tí para que tú puedas ser un regalo o una bendición a otros.

Comienza antes de que estés listo.

Da el primer paso. Actúa en la dirección de tus metas y sueños. El mundo te necesita. No esperes el momento perfecto. Parte de donde estás con lo que tienes. Es más que suficiente. Sigue moviéndote. A medida que creces, tú conseguirás ser mejor. Tu vida te está esperando.

This chicken stuffed with lemon and flavored with paprika is enjoyable served hot or cold with a salad.

INGREDIENTS: • 1 whole chicken (About 4 pounds) • 1 tbs. sweet paprika • 1 lemon • 2 tbs. olive oil • 2 cloves garlic, peeled, crushed METHOD: 1. Preheat oven to 430 grados (Fahrenheit). Wash the chicken and the cavity. Pat dry with paper towel. Squeeze half a lemon and rub all over the chicken. Squeeze the other half in the cavity. Place both lemon halves into the chicken cavity. Tie legs together with kitchen string.

2. Rub the chicken with garlic, then coat with olive oil and sprinkle all over with paprika and salt.

3. Place a wire rack over a roasting tray. Place the chicken breast-side up and cook in the oven for 15 minutes. Turn breast side down and cook for another 15 minutes. Then turn breast-side up again and lower heat to 350 degrees (Fahrenheit). Baste generously with the pan juices and cook for a further 40-45 minutes or until juices run clear when chicken thigh is pierced with a skewer. Stand, covered, for 10 minutes. Serve with roast vegetables. Garnish with fresh thyme. Enjoy and please share!

Paprika & Lemon Roast Chicken Pollo Asado Con Pimentón y Limón BY: SARAH LEWIS

MÉTODO: 1. Precaliente el horno a 430 grados (Fahrenheit). Lave el pollo y la cavidad. Con palmadita séquelo con toalla de papel.

Exprimar medio limón y frótelo todo sobre el pollo. Exprima la otra mitad en la cavidad. Ponga ambas mitades de limón en la cavidad del pollo. Atar las patas con hilo de cocina.

2. Frotar el pollo con el ajo, luego untarlo con aceite de oliva y espolvorear todo con pimentón y sal.

3. Coloque una rejilla sobre una bandeja de asar. Coloque el lado de la pechuga de pollo encima y cocínelo en el horno durante 15 minutos. Gire la pechuga hacia abajo y cocínelo por otros 15 minutos. Luego girar el lado de la pechuga para arriba otra vez y bajar el calor a 350 grados (Fahrenheit). THE SOLAR SYSTEM APRIL 2017

In our last edition, we spoke about The Milky Way Galaxy, our Solar System, it’s location within the Galaxy, our Sun, the 8 planets, the planets’ plane level relative to the Sun, and it’s scale compared to each other. We also talked about natural satellites (moons) orbiting the planets.

And grouped our planets in two categories (Inferior & Superior planets).

Another way of classifying the planets: INNER PLANETS – MERCURY, VENUS, EARTH, & MARS are the inner and terrestrial planets. These are similar to Earth in that they are of solid surface formation. MERCURY resembles our Moon in appearance, due to its craters. VENUS is almost the size of Earth and has a retrograde rotation. The reason for this is its axis tilt (177.3 degrees). It has a dense atmosphere. Althouogh Mercury is closer to the Sun, Venus’ surface temperature is hotter.

On June 8, 2004, Venus transitioned (passed in front of) the face of the Sun for the first time since 1882. Another occurred on June 5, 2012, and the latest transit was on May 9, 2016. These usually occur 13 times per century (visit http://eclipse.gsfc. nasa.gov/OH/transit12.html).

Mars has been the target of many unmanned surface probes. First, MARS PATHFINDER’S SOJOURNER (1997). Then MARS EXPLORATION ROVERS, SPIRIT & OPPORTUNITY (January/2004). Finally, CURIOSITY (August/2012, a car-sized robotic rover, NASA's Mars Science Laboratory mission (visit http://mars.nasa. gov/mer/home/). In addition, the MARS

RECONNAISSANCE ORBITER SATELLITE arrived in 2006, looking for clues about where watery martian habitats may lie. (visit http://mars.nasa.gov/mro/).

OUTER PLANETS – The orbits beyond Mars are JUPITER, SATURN, URANUS & NEPTUNE. All are made of gas, and not of solid formation as the inner planets. They have belts (darker zones), bands (brighter zones), and rings encircling the planet’s latitudes.

JUPITER is well known for its GRS (Great Red Spot), which is an enormous storm, taking place south of its equatorial region.

Earth fits 3 times in GRS’s diameter. Galileo Galilei (1564-1642), an Italian astronomer and physicist (the first to point a telescope towards the sky in 1610), saw the GRS. NASA’s latest solar powered spacecraft Juno, traveled 1.7 billion miles (2.7 billion km) at 165 thousand MPH (266,000 KPH) to reach Jupiter. The fastest vessel as per Guinness Book of World Records.

Launched from Cape Canaveral Air Force Station on August 5, 2011, and ranged into Jupiter's orbit on July 4, 2016 (visit https:// www.nasa.gov/mission_pages/juno/main/ index.html).

SATURN is famous for its icy rings. URANUS has a greenish-blue color, while NEPTUNE is blue. Neptune’s GDS (Great Dark Spot) currently above it’s equator.

One more important fact about all planets, is that they don’t have a natural source of luminosity of their own as stars do. The reason we see them as illuminated objects is because of their “albedo” (the reflectivity of the Sun's light and energy from an

object).

DWARF PLANETS – PLUTO is the “peculiar” one, because although it resides in the “outer-planets” region, it doesn’t follow the pattern of the gas giants located there. Pluto has been reclassified from a “Planet” to a “Dwarf Planet” by the IAU (International Astronomical Union) in 2006. This occurred because another dwarf planet called “Eris” (that is 27% more massive than Pluto), was discovered in 2005. This let to the reclassification of Pluto. Some astronomers still believe that Pluto is a planet, while other think it’s an asteroid that escaped from the Oort Cloud and is now orbiting the Sun (we’ll look into the Oort Cloud on the next edition).

However, it is now officially a Dwarf Planet, at 17 degrees from the Sun’s plane compared to the other planet’s orbit.

Additional Dwarf Planets have been discovered in our Solar System after Pluto.

Pluto was discovered by Clyde Tombaugh in 1930. There are 5 officially recognized dwarf planets in our solar system, they are Ceres, Pluto, Haumea, Makemake & Eris. With the exception of Ceres, which is located in the asteroid belt, the other dwarf planets are found in the Outer Solar System. There are another 6 objects in our solar system that are almost certainly dwarf planets and there may as many as 10,000. Of the Dwarf Planets, only 2 have been visited by space probes. In 2015 NASA’s Dawn and New Horizons missions reached Ceres and Pluto respectively (visit http://space-facts.com/dwarf-planets/).

EL SISTEMA SOLAR | (Parte-II) orbitar al planeta en el 2006, buscando pistas donde haya existido hábitat de agua marciano (vea http://mars.nasa.gov/mro/).

En nuestra última edición, hablamos sobre La Vía Láctea (nuestra Galaxia), el Sistema Solar y su localización dentro de la Galaxia, el Sol, los 8 planetas, el plano de los planetas relativo al Sol, y la escala comparando unos con otros.

También hablamos sobre los satélites naturales (lunas) que orbitan los planetas.

Y agrupamos nuestros planetas en dos categorías (Planetas Inferiores y Planetas Superiores).

PLANETAS EXTERIORES – En las órbitas más allá de Marte, están JÚPITER, SATURNO, URANO y NEPTUNO. Ningunos de estos consisten de superficies sólidas ni terreros (como los Planetas Interiores), sino que son de gas (o sea, son bolas de gas). Tienen cinturones (zonas obscuras), bandas (zonas claras), y anillos que orbitan algunas de sus latitudes.

Otra forma de clasificar los Plantas:

JÚPITER es bien conocido por su gran punto rojo (“Great Red Spot”, o GRS por sus siglas en inglés), Es realmente una gran tormenta localizada al sur de su ecuador. Proporcionarmente La Tierra cabe 3 veces en el diámetro del GRS. Galileo Galilei (1564-1642), un Astrónomo y Físico Italiano, pudo observar el GRS. Él es también conocido como la primera persona en apuntar un telescopio hacia el cielo.

Plutón ahora es oficialmente un Planeta Enano, a 17 grados del plano del Sol, comparado con la órbita de los demás planetas.

Luego de Plutón, otros Planetas Enanos fueron descubiertos. Plutón fue descubierto por Clyde Tombaugh en el 1930. Oficialmente en nuestro Sistema Solar existen 5 Planetas Enanos: Ceres, Plutón, Haumea, Makemake & Eris. WHAT TYPES OF AID ARE AVAILABLE TO HELP STUDENTS TO PAY FOR COLLEGE?

The U.S. Department of Education awards about $150 billion every year to help millions of students pay for college. This federal student aid is awarded in the form of grants, work-study funds, and low-interest loans. on the student’s financial need, the amount of other aid the student receives, and the availability of funds at his/her college.

Grants are typically awarded on the basis of need and generally do not have to be repaid. There are four types of federal student grants: •

Federal Pell Grants are usually awarded to undergraduate students who have not yet earned a bachelor’s degree. (In some cases, students enrolled in post baccalaureate teacher certification programs may receive Federal Pell Grants.) The maximum Federal Pell Grant award for the 2017-2018 award year is $5,920; however, the actual award depends on the student’s financial need, the college’s cost of attendance, the student’s enrollment status, and the length of the academic year in which the student is enrolled. Students can receive the Federal Pell Grant for up to the equivalent of 12 semesters.

Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grants (FSEOG) are awarded to undergraduate students with exceptional financial need. The amount of the award is determined by the college’s financial aid office, and depends on the student’s financial need and the availability of funds at the college.

•

Teacher Education Assistance for College and Higher Education (TEACH) Grants are awarded to students who intend to teach in a public or private elementary or secondary school that serves students from low-income families. If the service requirement is not fulfilled, it could turn into a loan.

•

• Iraq and Afghanistan Service Grants are awarded to students whose parents or guardians were members of the Armed Forces and died as a result of performing military service in Iraq or Afghanistan after Sept. 11, 2001. To qualify, a student must have been under 24 years of age or enrolled in college at the time of the parent’s or guardian’s death.

The Federal Work-Study Program enables students to earn money during the school year while also gaining valuable work experience, typically in part-time, career-related jobs.

Loans consist of money that the student borrows to help pay for college, and must be repaid (plus interest). There are two federal student loan programs: •

The Federal Perkins Loan Program is a campus-based program that provides low-interest loans to undergraduate and graduate students. The amount of the award depends

The William D. Ford Federal Direct Loan Program enables students and parents to borrow money at low interest rates directly from the federal government. The Direct Loan Program includes Direct Stafford Loans, which are available to undergraduate and graduate students, and Direct PLUS Loans, which are available to parents of dependent students and to graduate and professional-degree students. A Direct Stafford Loan might be subsidized or unsubsidized.

Direct PLUS Loans are always unsubsidized. Subsidized loans are based on financial need and are available only to undergraduate students. The federal government pays the interest on subsidized loans while the borrower is in college and during deferment. Unsubsidized loans are based on the student's education costs and other aid received. The borrower must pay all accrued interest on unsubsidized loans.

Other forms of financial aid that might be available to students include: •

State government aid. For more information, contact the state’s higher education agency. You can find the state agency’s contact information at http://wdcrobcolp01.ed.gov/ Programs/EROD/criteria.cfm.

Aid from the college. Students should contact the financial aid offices at the colleges they are considering for more information.

•

Scholarships. Some states, local governments, colleges, community organizations, private employers, and other organizations award scholarships based on academic ability or other factors. For more information, visit StudentAid.gov.

Tax credits for education expenses. For more information about the American Opportunity Tax Credit and Lifetime Learning Tax Credit, visit http://studentaid.ed.gov/types/taxbenefits.

The first Earth Day in 1970 is widely credited with having launched the modern environmental movement – making possible the passage of the landmark Clean Air Act, Clean Water Act, Endangered Species Act, and many other groundbreaking environmental laws. In fact, the first Earth Day was the harbinger of an important new force on the political horizon: millions of people who heard the rallying cry began making changes in their behavior, their consumption habits, and their belief systems, influenced by environmental values.

Environmental groups enjoyed a honeymoon period in the United States, and environmental policy received bipartisan support. The rest of the world quickly followed, passing landmark legislation over the next two decades. Toward the end of the 20th century, however, progress slowed as our adversaries became more adroit at defeating forward-thinking legislation. With the ever-growing threat climate change poses to our planet and our way of life – the sixth extinction of species, rising sea levels, the beginnings of mass human migrations, etc. – we have arrived in 2016 in worse shape perhaps than we were in 1970.

Despite the difficult path ahead, I strongly believe in one overarching lesson learned from Earth Day 1970: we can achieve unprecedented progress by bringing new, passionate voices into the debate. There is a common misconception that the first Earth Day was largely led by activists on college campuses. In fact, many of the first environmental organizers were single mothers, veterans, blue collar workers, teachers, and others who had never before participated politically. By inspiring new and powerful voices, we created a transformative movement.

In today’s hyper-connected and globalized world, there exists a nascent next generation of environmental leaders.

As the activism of Earth Day spreads to the far corners of the globe, we seek to inspire these leaders and create a new environmental movement to solve our complex environmental challenges.

I am proud to lead an organization founded on the premises that all people – regardless of race, gender, income, or geography – have a moral right to a healthy environment, and that an educated, energized population will act in its own best interests to secure a healthy present and future for itself and its children.

As we approach the 50th Anniversary of Earth Day, I hope that you will join us in building a diverse, powerful, and vocal movement to heal and nurture our planet. Together we can again create a deep, moral, and global response and an inspirational pivot toward change.

La Red Del Día De La Tierra (EDN en Inglés) está orgullosa de ser la reclutadora más grande del mundo para el movimiento ambiental, trabajando con más de 50.000 socios en 196 países para construir la democracia ambiental en todo el mundo

La misión de La Red Del Día De La Tierra es ampliar, diversificar y movilizar el movimiento ambientalista a nivel mundial para proteger la tierra para las generaciones futuras.

Carta de la Presidente El primer Día De La Tierra en 1970 es ampliamente acreditado pon haber iniciado el movimiento ambiental moderno, haciendo posible el paso de la “Ley del Aire Limpio” (Clean Air Act). La “Ley de Agua Limpia” (Clean Water Act), la “Ley De Especies En Peligro De Extinción” (Endangered Species Act) y muchas otras leyes ambientales innovadoras. De hecho, el primer Día De La Tierra fue el precursor de una importante nueva fuerza en el horizonte político: millones de personas que escucharon el grito comenzaron a hacer cambios en su comportamiento, sus hábitos de consumo y sus sistemas de creencia, influenciados por los valores ambientales.

Remembering People’s Names When You Meet When someone introduces themselves, do you remember his or her name? Is it important to do so? If you are like most people, within five minutes you will be scrambling to remember who you just met. You can improve your success rate in remembering.

Is remembering a person’s name necessary? After all, most people forget within seconds of being introduced. Why even bother going through the trouble?

To answer that question, ask yourself if it makes a difference when others remember your name. Knowing someone’s name shows that you took the time and that you care. It is a personal touch in the communication process.

When you refer to people by their name, you instantly set the conversation to a comfortable and personable tone.

This is one of the tenets of the classic book, “How to Win Friends and Influence People”,

by Dale Carnegie. The book was written in the early-to-mid 20th century. It remains a big selling item to this day. Although the stories are rather dated, the concepts are eternal. Remembering and using someone’s name will get you noticed.

When you refer to people by their name, you instantly set the conversation to a comfortable and personable tone. It’s familiar and friendly. The people who you refer to by name are quite appreciative that

you not only remembered their name but that you use it often.

If you aren’t good at remembering names, here are some tips. First, when introduced, say the person’s name as soon as they say it. For instance, if the person’s name is Sally, say, “it’s nice to meet you, Sally.”

Try to use her name quickly again as you converse with her but try not to do this in excess. Make it as natural as possible.

You could also state that you know someone with the same name as the people you meet. This can get them talking about why they were so named (after the mother, father, etc.) When the conversation is complete, use the name again. Using the example above, you could say, “it was a pleasure to speak with you, Sally.”

It’s a good idea to keep a notepad with you at all times for when you meet new people.

Shortly after your conversation ends, take a few seconds to record the person’s name so that you can refer to it later if necessary.

Try to remember without the notepad, but you have it for reference, just in case you forget.

Use these tips to help you remember names. You will brighten peoples’ day when you not only remember but use their names.

Después de todo, la mayoría de la gente lo olvida en segundos después de ser introducido. ¿Por qué molestarse incluso pasando por este problema?

Cuando tú te refieres a las personas usando su nombre, inmediatamente estableces la conversación en un tono cómodo y agradable. Es familiar y amigable. Las personas que se refieren por su nombre son muy agradecidas que tú no sólo hayas recordado su nombre pero que lo utilices a menudo.

Si tú no eres bueno en recordar nombres, estos son algunos consejos.

En primer lugar, cuando, dices el nombre de la persona tan pronto como ellos lo dicen. Por ejemplo, si el nombre es Sally, dí, "es bueno conocerte, Sally." Trata de usar su nombre rápidamente otra vez cuando conversas con ella, pero no intentes hacer esto en exceso. Hazlo tan natural como sea posible.

When it comes to achieving a goal there’s one thing that separates the successful from those who give up on their dreams.

Don’t worry. You can change that.

Those who succeed believe they can and will succeed. That belief in themselves drives them to keep going, even when they have setbacks. They find a way to recover and succeed.

Now here’s the good news.

Those who don’t believe in themselves often never get started, never come close and give up when something goes wrong. So if you have a goal you’d like to achieve start believing you can and will succeed.

Otherwise, you’ll end up giving up and failing. Now if you’re not used to believing you can succeed then you need to make some changes.

Think of a goal you’d like to achieve and if you get some negative feedback, if you get some doubts and if you have some negative thoughts come up, then you don’t truly believe you can and will succeed.

You may not realize this but your beliefs and how you see yourself are planted on your subconscious mind.

And your subconscious mind simply makes sure you follow what you think and believe.

Cuando se trata de lograr una meta hay una cosa que separa aquellos que tienen éxito de los que renuncian a sus sueños.

Aquellos que tienen éxito creen que pueden tenerlo y tendrán éxito. Esa creencia en sí mismos les impulsa a seguir adelante, incluso cuando tienen contratiempos.

Tips to Help Prevent Vehicle break-ins BY: CRIME PREVENTION SPECIALIST JEREMY PROFITT FROM FAIRFIELD POLICE DEPARTMENT ***MAKE THEM UNCOMFORTABLE*** Most thieves go solo. The last thing they want is a crowd of onlookers with cell phones. So try to keep your car highly visible:

Some common-sense steps you can take to make your vehicle a much less appealing target. Above all, thieves look for opportunities. Make them “work” for their pilfered prizes, and they’ll most likely just forget it and move on to an easier target. ***OUT OF SIGHT, OUT OF MIND*** Smash-and-grab thieves typically aren’t criminal masterminds who craft clever schemes to swipe your stuff.

Most are casual opportunists. They see something they like, so they break in and take it. So keep your valuables out of sight. Never leave these things lying out on your seats, dashboard or floor:

•

Park near other people. Go for busy lots where there’s plenty of pedestrian and vehicle traffic.

•

If you'll be away from your car after dark, park in a well-lit area or near a lamppost.

•

Choose a lot with an attendant over one without.

***MAKE THEM “WORK” FOR IT*** Thieves are also lazy. With car breakins, they’re usually not looking for a huge payoff. What this type of thief wants is a quick thrill – or maybe a little extra revenue – for as little work as possible. By making your car a harder target for these people, you make it less desirable. So:

Phone - Purse or wallet - Laptop (or its bag) - A briefcase or backpack Shopping bags An MP3 player or other small electronics - CDs if you still use them - Cash – yes, even loose change/coins - Your keys – it actually happens!

Always lock your doors and roll up your windows when you park.

•

Activate your security system if you have one.

•

Consider window tinting (if permitted by local laws), since it makes casing your car more difficult.

•

Don’t use the console or glove box as mobile lock boxes. These are obvious to thieves, too.

***MAKE THINGS DISAPPEAR FIRST*** While your trunk is better than the passenger compartment for shopping bags and laptops, an experienced thief will often stake out a parking lot and watch you transfer your things there.

So before you even get to where you’ll be leaving your car unattended, move your valuables to the trunk or wherever they’re out of sight. ***BE ALERT*** If you see suspicious activity, report suspicious activity to the Fairfield Police Department. Trust your instincts. And never confront anyone yourself.

Shadows Still in the

BY: JOCELYN GONZALEZ I will never forget when a patient came in to our free student-run Clinic in Sacramento, just a couple of days after suffering a heart attack. She should have been at the intensive care unit, yet there she was in a clinic that could provide so little for someone with her condition. A cardiac disease and an undocumented status: not the ideal situation.

California is a state with a large number of undocumented immigrants, and I have witnessed many health care disparities through my family and my community as a whole. As a young child, my parents did not access to health insurance.

They resorted to free clinics and the VaporRub product that always seemed to cure everything. Like my family, many members of the immigrant community currently encounter barriers in accessing health care simply because of their legal status.

Over the past years, the ACA has provided health coverage for approximately 20 million people, yet has left out many of California’s undocumented immigrants who may have otherwise qualified for low cost health insurance. Lack of access to health care in an already vulnerable population is consequential. Primary care visits are essential to healthy lifestyles and the prevention or control of chronic diseases.

In addition, overcrowding at emergency rooms is often the unintended result of inaccessible health care.

It is, ultimately, a violation of basic Human Rights that goes beyond the walls of California.

The issue of illegal immigration stems from a complex history and relationship with Mexico (and many other countries), in addition to various socioeconomic and political factors.

tensions towards the immigrant community. However, the ethics involved in the field of medicine are simple; health care is a right, not a privilege. With the upcoming administration it is more important than ever to recognize the vulnerability of this community and take a stand to prevent further denial of basic rights.

Under Senator Lara’s Health for All Act, undocumented immigrants would be able to purchase their own health insurance through Covered California, though they would not be eligible for subsidies. The senate bill was signed by Governor Brown on June of 2016 and allowed the state to move forward in applying for a required federal waiver under ACA. However, recent events in Washington DC have led to withdrawal of the federal waiver, preventing equal health care access for all Californians.

As members of our communities, we must stand up for the rights of our fellow residents. We should never underestimate our advocacy; it has the power to make the differences we envision for our communities. Many policymakers may not understand the barriers the immigrant population faces, and so it is important to constantly remind them. This applies to not only health policies, but to immigration and education policies as well. Though conducting legislative visits, attending open county meetings and even making quick phone calls, Californians can support policies that address the needs of all our residents, even of those living in the shadows.

Nunca olvidaré cuando una paciente entró a nuestra Clínica Estudiantil en Sacramento, sólo un poco de días después de haber sufrido un ataque cardíaco. Debería de haber estado en un Hospital con cuidado intensivo, pero y ahí estaba en nuestra clínica gratuita, una clínica que podría hacer muy poco para una persona con su condición. Una enfermedad cardíaca y el estatus de indocumentada: no era la situación ideal.

California es uno de los estados con la más grande cantidad de inmigrantes indocumentados, y yo he mirado muchas desigualdades en el cuidado de salud en mi familia y en mi comunidad en general. Cuando yo era niña, mis padres no tenían acceso a aseguranza médica. En vez, recurrían a clínicas de bajos recursos y al producto de “Vaporu”, que siempre parecía curar todo. Como mi familia, muchos inmigrantes aún encuentran barreras en acceder cuidado médico simplemente por su estatus legal.

Dentro los últimos años, el ACA a dado aseguranza médica a aproximadamente 20 millones de personas, pero ha excluido a muchos inmigrantes indocumentados que podrían haber calificado para aseguranza de bajo costo. LA falta de acceso a aseguranza médica en una comunidad vulnerable tiene sus consecuencias. Visitas regulares al doctor son esenciales para vivir una vida saludable y prevenir o controlar enfermedades crónicas.

Además, el exceso de gente en las salas de Emergencias es el resultado probable de la inaccesibilidad en recibir atención médica. Es una violación de los Derechos Humanos básicos que va más allá de los

muros de California. La cuestión de inmigración ilegal proviene de una historia compleja y relación con México (y muchos otros países), además de diversos factores socio económicos y políticos. Muchas veces, el ambiente político aumenta las existentes tensiones hacia la comunidad inmigrante. Sin embargo, la ética involucrada en medicina es simple: Tener acceso a atención médica es un derecho, no un privilegio. Con la administración Presidencial de este país, es más importante que nunca reconocer la vulnerabilidad de esta comunidad y tomar posición para evitar negaciones de derechos básicos.

Jim Kwik, world renown memory expert, lists eight principles of recall including primacy, uniqueness, organization, recency, familiarity, emotions, visualisation and association.

What I think is most important is to build your memory through usage and validation.

Use your mind to transform your health, wealth and relationships Every time you check or write something down instead of relying on your memory, you revalidate the fact that you consider your memory to be weak.

On the other hand, I heard of people who sufferred from memory impair after a brain injury, who built their memory function back up by challenging themselves to remember items, tasks etc. – increasing to a larger quantity each time.

It is also impеrativе nоt tо rеcall what is hоlding us back, but what is mоving us fоrward. We can crеatе futurе mеmоriеs by visualizing our dream, bringing emotion to that visualization, and then bringing that memory of the future back into the here and now – into our daily lives.

Based on that future memory, we “act as if…”. We create a desired future in our mind, crеatе detailed mеmоriеs including our five senses – i.e. what does it smell like, what does it feel like? - Then bring these memories back. Оncе yоu have created yоur futurе mеmоry, еvеrything yоu dо that is alignеd with yоur visiоn will pull yоu tоward it; yоu'll fееl it.

In These Two Spots, Expats Will Likely Be Greeted With a Warm Welcome, a Helping Hand And a Friendly Smile.

For many expats, finding new friends can ease the often overwhelming task, of adjusting to a new life abroad. But with huge variances in local culture and language capabilities, some places can definitely feel more welcoming than others.

To determine where expats might find the best success of fitting in fast, global community network. InterNations recently conducted their annual Expat Insider survey of more than 14,000 expats from 191 countries, asking residents to rate a number of aspects about life abroad, including how easy it was to settle in, a country’s friendliness and ease of making friends.

"Los Colombianos están dispuestos a mostrar su país en una luz positiva y son muy receptivos y hospitalarios hacia los recién llegados," dijo Anne Marie ZwergVillegas, Una Embajadora de InterNations en Medellín, que vive en Chia (Un vecindario al norte de Bogotá) y originaria de los Estados Unidos.

Este país Centroamericano clasifica con la clasificación más alta, tomando en cuenta todos los factores cuando se trata de cómo fácilmente se ajustan los expatriados. Casi nueve de cada 10 expatriados (89%) se complacen con la simpatía general de la población, y ocho de cada de 10 (79%) se sienten como en casa, según la encuesta.

TODO TIENE SU TIEMPO

clesiastés 3:1 dice: “Todo tiene su tiempo, y todo lo que se quiere debajo del cielo tiene su hora.”

Qué bueno que ya llegó el tiempo de la primavera. Durante esta temporada tenemos la oportunidad de mirar el retoño de las flores, el crecimiento de nuevas ramas, y el cantar de los pajaritos. Con la primavera se nos ofrece las oportunidades de poder abrazar el calor del sol y gozar con la familia el clima del día. Las lluvias del invierno están terminando y nos han dado la oportunidad de mirar las bendiciones que vienen de parte de Dios. Aunque fueron muchas, fueron necesarias. Así ocurre en nuestras vidas. Hay momentos donde parece que solamente llueve…llueven problemas, llueven dificultades, llueven circunstancias, llueve sin parar.

En Lamentaciones 3:21 dice: “Pero esto consideraré en mi corazón, y por esto esperaré…porque nunca decayeron sus misericordias; nuevas son cada mañana. ¡Grande es Tu fidelidad! Mi porción es Jehová; por tanto, en Él esperaré, dice mi alma”.

En esto podemos confiar que Dios demuestra Su misericordia a nuestras vidas todos los días. Aún en los momentos más difíciles, si podemos confiar en Él y esperar en Él.

Él hará que el sol resplandezca sobre nuestras vidas. Como la lluvia es necesaria para una buena cosecha, también la lluvia en nuestra vida es buena. Por medio de ella aprendemos que todo tiene su tiempo – algunos días van a ser difíciles y otros serán fáciles; pero en medio de todo ello Dios muestra Su fidelidad para con nosotros. Como nos muestra Su fidelidad? – en mostrarnos que sí hay una solución a cada problema, dificultad, circunstancia en nuestra vida.

En Génesis 41:16, José le responde al Faraón “…Dios será el que dé respuesta propicia…”, en otras palabras para Dios no hay ninguna sorpresa, Él tiene la respuesta a cada una de nuestras necesidades, nuestras preguntas, e inquietudes.

Acordémonos, que como las aguas cesan, también toda dificultad.

Abrazamos las oportunidades de un retoño, un crecimiento de una rama, y el nuevo cántico de un pajarito que nos trae el tiempo de la primavera.

No dejemos que la amargura de la lluvia nos quiera evadir del calor del sol. Todo es de beneficio. No hay nada que podemos tomar, sin que haya algo que podemos aprender.

Cuando entendemos esto, no hay nada que pueda venir a prevenirnos de lo que viene en camino.

Como la lluvia no puede detener la primavera, sino que le abre la puerta a ella, así es también en nuestras vidas – la lluvia no puede detener la misericordia de Dios sobre nosotros.

Así que abracemos el calor del sol y el calor de nuestra familia; pero también abracemos las lluvias, que en ellas estamos siendo preparados para lo que viene en camino.

Termino con Eclesiastés 3:11 que dice: “Todo lo hizo hermoso en su tiempo, y ha puesto eternidad en el corazón del hombre, sin que este alcance a comprender la obra hecha por Dios desde el principio hasta el fin.”

Palabras de Sabiduría

PON TODO TU CORAZÓN EN LO QUE HACES

L

a rutina tiene sus beneficios en ciertas cosas. Por ejemplo, antes de salir, asegurar que apagó la estufa, y que tiene las llaves de la casa. Antes de acostarse, asegure bien las puertas y ventanas. Al salir, coteje que el automóvil tiene suficiente gasolina para el viaje, etc.

medita en ella. Es como el árbol plantado a la orilla de un río que, cuando llega su tiempo, da fruto y sus hojas jamás se marchitan. ¡Todo cuanto hace prospera!” (Salmo 1:1-3 NVI).

En otras cosas la rutina puede ser detrimental, especialmente en asuntos de relaciones interpersonales, como en el matrimonio, los hijos, familiares, Iglesia, vecinos, el trabajo (y otros). Es más cómodo hacer todo rutinariamente, sin embargo el resultado va ser aburrido y hasta perjudicial para todos. Con el tiempo, dejar la rutina se convierte en un esfuerzo que pocos están dispuesto embarcar. Pero el éxito de nuestras buenas relaciones con los demás (y con Dios), podría depender mucho si salimos de ella.

El Señor también nos advierte de la rutina, tales como: oraciones repetitivas sin sentido en lugar de con una actitud contrita; asistir a la Iglesia con prisa (sin deseo) en vez de adorar en espíritu y en verdad; ofrendar solo por cumplir, en vez de con agradecimiento; saludar a los hermanos y visitas secamente sin tener compasión y empatía; leer la Biblia solo para conocimiento en vez de para el crecimiento espiritual.

El Salmista nos amonesta diciendo: “Dichoso el hombre… que en la ley del Señor se deleita, y día y noche

PON TODO TU CORAZÓN – Nuestro enfoque, pasión y dedicación en la vida está en lo que valoramos y colocamos como prioridad en nuestro corazón. “Porque donde esté tu tesoro, allí estará también tu corazón.” (Mateo 6:21 NVI). ¡¿Qué valoramos?! ¿¡Qué atesoramos?! ¿Qué valor tiene tu matrimonio? ¿Lo suficiente para enriquecerlo y de ser necesario, hacer todo lo posible para salvarlo? ¿Y tus hijos? ¿Sacas suficiente tiempo con ellos? Si no te dedicas en prepararlos para la vida y la sociedad, otros se encargarán de formarlos por ti, y créeme, que no te va agradar el resultado. Hay enseñanzas en las escuelas que van a contradecir tenazmente lo que ustedes como familia valoran y profesan como fe. ¿Continuamos sembrando semillas buenas en nuestros hijos que ya son adultos? ¿Y con nuestros nietos? ¿Le hablamos de Jesús? “Instruye al niño en el camino correcto, y aun en su vejez no lo abandonará.” (Proverbios 22:6 NVI). Pon todo tu corazón en lo que El Señor realmente valora, y verás que Él no fallará en darte éxito y tocará los corazones de los que te rodean.

USA TU FE – Hay quienes creen que su fe es muy pequeña y que por lo tanto, El Señor no escuchará sus oraciones. Creen que no son como otros que tienen mucha fe, suficiente para mover montañas.

Sin embargo, las escrituras nos enseña lo contrario. Dios sembró en tu corazón “la medida de fe”, que es más que suficiente para tener éxito, para tener la certeza que Él escucha tus oraciones, y para poder enfrentar cualquier prueba.

El Apostol Pablo dijo: “Digo, pues, a cada uno de ustedes por la gracia que me ha sido dada, que nadie tenga más alto concepto de sí que el que deba tener; más bien, que piense con sensatez, CONFORME A LA MEDIDA DE LA FE QUE DIOS REPARTIÓ A CADA UNO.” (Romanos 12:3 RVA-2015).

Cree que todo lo que te rodea (tu matrimonio, familia, planes del futuro, trabajo, etc.) será bendecido por El Altísimo y Creador de nuestras vidas y del Universo. Él perdona, restaura y da comienzos nuevos. “…
