You Will Do Better in Toledo Kari Toncre

The city of Toledo often gets a bad reputation, especially during the winter, but Toledo has many factors that make it a great city to visit and live in. The Glass City was founded in 1833, located along the Maumee River and west of Lake Erie. It is now home to the University of Toledo, Toledo Mud Hens and the Toledo Walleye. Toledo is in the middle of big cities like Detroit, Chicago, Cleveland, and Columbus. It allows residents to have quick and easy travel in order to spend a day or weekend in any of those cities. Toledo also has their own airport, Toledo Express Airport, located off Airport Highway near Swanton. Other than flying out passenger and cargo planes, the airport tends to host airshows and other airplane events. In 2014, the Toledo Zoo was voted the number one zoo in the nation. This is a perfect place to spend the day during the summer or the evening during December for the popular Lights Before Christmas. “The zoo is full of adventures and you are always guaranteed to have a fun time! It’s a great place to go with both your family and your friend,

The Toledo Museum of Art is close by to the zoo, a home to over 30,000 collections of artwork. Imagination Station is in downtown Toledo where people of all ages can learn and enjoy the wonders of science and discovery. To get a better feel of nature, Toledo offers many metro parks open to the public, including Wildwood Metropark and Sidecut Me-

tropark. They have biking and running trails throughout the woods. The Lucas County Public Library is a huge public library located in Toledo, for anyone looking for a good read or needing to do research for school. Entertainment is a must when living in a city. Toledo offers concerts and hockey games at the Huntington Center and baseball games at Fifth Third Field. The Toledo Symphony Orchestra hosts concerts at venues like The Valentine Theater. One must not go hungry when living in Toledo. The Glass City has a wide variety of local restaurants to go to including The Toledo Club, Mancy’s Steakhouse, Tony Packos, and Real Seafood Company. Toledo proudly has 4 single-sex, private high schools with great programs. Many find that Toledo is great city to live in with many opportunities and open doors. “I love living in Toledo because my family, generation after generation, has always lived in here so it has that small town feel of knowing people, but has the opportunity like a big city” senior Jillian Schaefer said. People truly “will do better in Toledo.”
