Lake Oconee is Georgia’s second largest lake, 19,000+ acres. Unlike other lakes in Georgia which share water with other states. Both the rivers feeding Lake Oconee start and end in Georgia. This is especially important in drought years because Lake Oconee doesn’t have to release additional water to satisfy other states and governing bodies. As a result, Lake Oconee sees very little fluctuation and stays relatively full year round, except for the occasional scheduled drawdown.

Harbor Club is a family-owned, 1,000-acre golf and lake community located an hour east of Atlanta and framed by nine miles of pristine shoreline along Georgia’s Lake Oconee nestled on the northeast corner of Lake Oconee, below I-20. Harbor Club ownership continues to invest in the neighborhood and its future by recently devoting millions towards capital enhancements, including an expansive fitness, recreation and special event campus called The Grove, a sparkling new marina amenity, renovated clubhouse and the award-winning golf course. Additional amenities at Harbor Club include an expansive Swim & Tennis Center and a 15,000 sq. ft. clubhouse with golf shop, and dining room.
Harbor Club features 18 holes of golf designed by Jay Morrish and Tom Weiskopf and has many accolades, including a top 10 ranking in “Best Course You Can Play” by Golf Week and Golf Magazine
Harbor Club also has two featured restaurants for members to enjoy. The Clubhouse Restaurant and the Boathouse Restaurant. The Clubhouse restaurant overlooks the 18th green, croquet lawn and driving range and features a relaxed fine dining atmosphere. The Boathouse Restaurant is a more relaxed, laid back seasonal dining experience. Located at Granite Cove Marina much of the appeal is the outdoor experience, including the fire pit, outdoor seating and boat access.

Cuscowilla has a unique feel that is unlike any other community on Lake Oconee. Located centrally on Lake Oconee this tract of land was previously a hybrid pine tree farm, and much of that feel still remains. There are towering pines throughout the property, and great care has been taken to not over-develop the property.
The golf course is a true test for avid golf enthusiasts. The course is a Bill Coore/ Ben Crenshaw design and has a much more natural feel than many of the other courses in the area, with many pines and native grasses in abundance.
The Golf Club at Cuscowilla is a rare modern example of getting this balance just right. Borrowing from Alister MacKenzie’s famous quote, “The ideal hole is surely one that affords the greatest pleasure to the greatest number, gives the fullest advantage for accurate play, stimulates players to improve their game, and never becomes monotonous.”
Two holes border Lake Oconee in Georgia, and the course is imminently playable and enjoyable for the 18-handicapper while equally intriguing to the low marker. The strict par of 70 contributes to the latter.
The Lakeside Swimming Pool is a fantastic way to enjoy all the expansive views and breezes of Lake Oconee with all the conveniences of a fantastic pool. Located next door, the Waterside Restaurant offers great, upscale dining. The property also features tennis, pickleball, a community garden, and a pet park.

Downtown Greensboro has everything you’d hope for in a small town community, and then some. Here you can meander in and out of the local shops that are full of classic southern charm and elegance. Many of these shops have unique local items and antiques that may not be found anywhere else. Stores like The Greensboro Antique Mall, Maggie Lane, Genuine Georgia and The Pink Stitch are full of little goodies for those that love unique, hand crafted items.
One can also stroll down to The Ripe Thing Market to pick up some essentials. While you’re there you can browse the local produce, nuts and jellies to name a few. Or, maybe a sandwich and ice cream would suit your needs. After all that shopping, stop into The Oconee Brewing Co. to cool down with a local pint.
History lovers can take a self-guided tour of the Old Gaol (Jail). Built in 1807, this is the oldest masonry jail in Georgia and was used for nearly a century. The 2 feet thick walls were mined from a local quarry and the building copies the bastilles of Europe. Prisoners there could expect an uncomfortable stay. Chained to the wall, they would ride out their candlelit days on a bed of straw, with a tin bucket, and no heat or ventilation. If you want to check out this strong house you’ll need the keys, for this you can visit Genuine Georgia.
Whether you choose to visit some of these local recommendations or explore on your own, downtown Greensboro has a lot to offer. And when the weather is nice, there are usually additional events that offer shopping, food and entertainment.

Cafe 44
This is an excellent restaurant to grab breakfast, lunch or just a coffee. During the week they also make takeout family meals. They have a large variety of soups, salads and sandwiches. They also have a nice outdoor patio. @cafe44lakeoconee
Da Corrado Ristorante
This prominent Italian restaurant in the Lake Oconee area took home the 2022 Travelers’ Choice award from Tripadvisor. So, needless to say, this restaurant has really great Italian food, including many of the traditional dishes. @dacorradoristorante
Pedro’s
Located right in the heart of the Lake Oconee community Pedro’s has all the wonderful dishes you would expect from a Mexican grill & cantina, plus many specials. This restaurant is very popular with the locals and always has fast service for lunch. @pedrosmexicangeorgia
The Lakehouse Gastropub
Located on Lake Oconee and accessible by boat, this Gastropub is big on entertainment. Oh, we should mention, there’s usually live music on the weekends. Also, any sports fan will enjoy the numerous flat screens and drink specials on game days. The sandwiches, tacos and entrees are very good as well. Lake Oconee Bistro
Located in the historic Magnolia House, this is another restaurant that’s big on atmosphere. They have a large fully stocked bar, private event rooms and daily specials so there’s never a dull moment here. Their menu is large so there’s plenty of good food to choose from. @lakeoconeebistro
Filet Steak & Seafood
For nearly 2 decades now, Filet has been serving the lake area with incredible food. The owner and staff are always great and the
restaurant offers a fantastic blend of meats and seafood in various mouthwatering dishes. You’ll definitely want to check out Filet sooner rather than later. @filetlakeoconee
You probably won’t find The Silver Moon’s website or lots of information online, heck there’s barely a sign at the restaurant. But for all it lacks in flashy headlines it makes up for in taste and fun. So, go put your name on the chalkboard and get ready for great food, including numerous nightly specials.
The Iron Fork
There are so many wonderful dishes and southern sides you’ll feel like you’re having dinner at your family’s house. They also have a great patio for nice-weather outdoor dining. You won’t leave this southern family-style restaurant hungry, so, “may the fork be with you”. @ironforkcafe
Mellow Mushroom
While this restaurant isn’t unique to the Lake Oconee area it’s still just a fantastic pizza. If you’ve never been, do yourself a favor and keep it mellow, next time. They have several nontraditional pizzas that are simply fantastic.

One of the newer, but no less fantastic, additions to the LO restaurant scene. Table At The Lake offers a nice, upscale dining experience outside the gates. This intimate restaurant offers many delicious, non-traditional dishes. @tableatl
The area’s only Thai restaurant has many of the classic Thai dishes you’d hope to find when you’re craving southeast Asian cuisine. The portions are generous and the food is good. @lamaibanthai
After seeing all the wonderful things Lake Oconee has to offer it might be time to start thinking about the numbers. How does that gorgeous lake house or golf retreat really look on paper? A lot of the time it’s more affordable than you think. The lake area really is a great value compared to many places with similar amenities, events and entertainment.

The county’s courthouse, a neoclassical revival style, was first constructed in 1824 and is one of the largest town squares in the state.
